Simply the best hotel to stay if your doing the Universal parks. A great pool that shows family films at night. A restaurant that makes a great brekkie. And best of all a 5 min walk to the parks. If you can't be bothered to walk there are free boat rides to and from the parks. If your going for horror night then you truely are in for a treat, a spectacular you will never forget. I highly recommend on getting special fast passes for horror nights, pricey but worth their weight in gold. Without them expect to queue for 2-3 hours per house. With them 10-15 mins. Not something you'll do every day so make sure you get them as they are limited. On normal days to the parks your room keys act as fast passes. Brilliant!!!

We booked one night at the Hard Rock Hotel Universal since we planned to go to Universal Islands of Adventure the following day. We loved the vibe of the hotel when we drove up. The music throughout the hotel was great and all the hotel staff that we came in contact with were very helpful and friendly. We reserved a basic room, but it was well appointed and clean. The room was nicely decorated, bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows and we did take advantage of both the IPod docking station and in room Kerig coffee maker. We visited the Velvet Lounge and it had a very relaxed atmosphere. We did not take advantage of the pool, but it looked great from what we could see. The hotel was about a 5 minute walk from the entrance to Universal, which was super. The early access to the park and Express Pass with our hotel room key were great amenitites and well worth the the price of the room. We plan to return in the future and hopefully take advantage of all the amenitites that the hotel has to offer. Keep up the good work Hard Rock!

We've stayed here every year since 2005 with our kids.

Past three years we've gone club level and would recommend the upgrade to anyone with kids, especially if jet lag is an issue. Handy to let them nibble rather than fall asleep when out for a meal. Drinks all day (softs) is also great and the staff always help us out with milk whenever we asks for it. Could do with changing the options at the evening session and include more veg friendly things. That said, I'm content with the beer!

I felt this year the rooms could benefit from some sprucing up and I did find toenail clippings near the window, so vacuuming on that occasion could have been better. Our fridge was also gross with mould on the products and in the trays. Someone had burst a liqueur and it had never been cleaned properly. After about 4-5 attempts at complaining they replaced the fridge. We got a free breakfast for the trouble and $100 off the bill.

Site and pool are fantastic and clean, restaurants are amazing (my hair and appearance are a bit to wild to have me venture to the Palm but I love the Kitchen - try the seared ahi tuna!!!!).

Drink is expensive for sure but usually includes the tip, you're on holiday!!

Our oldest is 11 now and we have no problem sending him to the pool on his own. It's well staffed and we're very confident in the pool staff to let him go on his own.

Other reviewers speak of the room keys and fast pass. Invaluable with kids, without a doubt. We don't even bother with Disney anymore because of the perk.

The main thing that let this trip down was they swiped our credit card at check in for the entire stay amount which cleaned us out. We didn't realise til we tried to hire a car and the card kept bouncing. We were furious with that. Car aside, had there been a medical matter, as we have had previously, we'd have been screwed. We never got our car (but testement to the staff, 2 we've become friends with over the years actually took us out fishing and nature spotting on their day off - that's the special part about the hotel), but we did get a refund of a few days (on top of the fridge issue) as an apology and assurance that we will be extra special taken care of next visit.

Few complaints in here, but they do address them and given the years we've been going thats our first grumbles. Everyone makes mistakes and as long as its sorted quickly and to our satisfaction we're happy campers.

We love it period. We're FL tourist vets since '96. We bust our a**es all year to afford it and it's always worth the toil. If they had a time share option we'd be in for sure.

If you can afford it, do it, if you can't, work your cotton socks off like we do to make sure you can (watch out for the deals they can save you heaps and are better than the broker sites).

Oh, and camp li'l rock is great too if you want a few hours 'sans kids'. Just check where it's at on particular nights as it moves round the resort hotels. You can still. Heck them in but you need to get them there.

this hotel was simply superb. i'm not one to give out easy accolades to hotels, but the hard rock was very close to being perfect for our family. the adults enjoyed the contemporary style and modern conveniences. the kids enjoyed the poolside movies, the water slide, and the simpsons characters at the kitchen. everyone enjoyed the comfortable beds and spacious room, and the luxuriously convenient location in relation to the universal parks. in short, the hard rock was the perfect blend of rock n roll and family fun.

the entire staff was friendly and helpful--our bell hop stayed an extra ten minutes after delivering our luggage to give us some gems on how to enjoy all the area's attractions some of which i'll share. the front desk gave the kids blow up guitar toys and pins. the hotel's one star service made it easy to get everything you needed--you can call one place to get room service, have the valet get your car, bring you more towels, or get a table for you at the restaurant. customer service--A+

after spending a miserably cramped 4 days at the animal kingdom lodge savannah view bunkbed room (a huge ripoff) on the disney leg of our trip, we were absolutely in heaven when we opened the door to our STANDARD garden view room at the hard rock (which cost about half as much). it was like going from a closet to an actual room. spacious and comfortable with soft linens and clean decor. the towels were new and the fixtures were clean and working. the framed beatles photos on the wall were a great finishing touch. room--A

the on-site facilities were fantastic as well. the huge pool has a beach entry and they had a large screen by the bar poolside where you could watch a movie while swimming (we watched harry potter and the deathly hallows part I--very apropos for visiting islands of adventure the next day). there is a pretty good water slide too. the underwater speakers pumping music were pretty cool although you still couldn't hear it very well. we ate at the kitchen--one of the on-site restaurants and it was great. my wife used the laundry room and said it was really small and cramped, but that's the only negative. on-site facilities A-

but onto the biggest reason this hotel is so cool--its perks and location. i cannot imagine a better place to stay if you're visiting the universal parks. it is by most accounts along with the portofino hotel a class above the royal pacific, and it is by FAR closer to the theme parks than the portofino. if you stay at the portofino you pretty much have to use the water taxis or you have to walk well over 20 minutes. the hard rock is a 6 minute walk to universal studios and 10 minutes to islands of adventure. we got very lucky--our room was on the far end of the hotel. at first we were a little bummed because it's so far from the elevators, but quickly realized that we scored because we were that much closer to both a convenient pool entry and the theme parks. we just went down the stairs at the end of the building, out the door, and voila, we walked straight onto the walking trail to the parks. it was like a super short cut! finally, you simply CANNOT BEAT having the express pass and extra hour for the wizarding world of harry potter. we were at the gate when it opened at 8 and finished all the rides by 2 pm. when it comes to theme parks, no lines = good times. i'm sure the express pass/extra hour is even more valuable in the busy season like the summer. location and perks A+

when you factor in the overall value of staying at the hard rock, it just simply can't be beat. the included express passes themselves for four people practically makes the room free. it was so much more enjoyable than staying at a disney resort where you basically get overcharged for less quality.

Room Tip: ask for a room closest to the theme park side of the hotel so you can take the stairs shortcut onto...

Let me start by saying that the hotel itself has its appeals for the average family, close proximity to the Universal parks, activities/entertainment poolside for the kids, and apparently plenty of other teens and kids to keep each other busy...oh and the rooms are comparable to what you might find at any other hotel (nothing to write home about). This is NOT the place for a couple who is looking to relax poolside and enjoy the parks also. Start off with the fact that on the weekends, they BLAST music by the pool from 1PM - 6PM with various entertainers and games for kids and maybe even teens. Its not relaxing at all -- you cannot find anywhere to go if you just wanted to have a drink poolside and chill out to your own headset music choice. Also, we had the misfortune of staying here during the Halloween horrors and the hotel was overrun, I mean overrun with about 100 teenagers roaming the halls, banging on doors, and just hanging out in the lobby until all hours of the night causing trouble. The hotel security and staff were completely unprepared and didn't seem to know what to do about all the disturbances. They have no customer service skills at the front desk and instead just gave me attitude. One last thing because I didn't know this when I booked -- you will pay $15/day to park your rental car at this hotel and if you have family/friends that want to visit...they better be prepared to pay $30. Rip off! I apparently made a mistake in choosing this hotel and will never go again but I am sure its a great spot for some folks.

Room Tip: Choose someplace other then the Hard Rock if you are going without kids.

The hotel is ideally located on site for visiting universal studios and the islands of adventure. The room itself was large clean and very comfortable with a fantastic fresh coffee machine.

The hotel was excellent value for money as the added perks made the first week of our holiday really special. Using our room pass we were able to enter the parks an hour before the gates opened which allowed us to have Harry Potter world practically to ourselves for two hours on different mornings which meant we went straight to the front of the Castle ride and had a lovely breakfast before anyone really turned up. For the rest of our stay we were able to use our room keys as fast passes which meant walking past endless queues to the front of most of the rides in the park. Something we greatly missed the next week at Disney!

The hotel even provided us with free tickets to watch the live recording of impact wrestling which was certainly an experience and we were able to tell our friends we were present for Hulk Hogan's official retirement speech!

The hotel also provides frequent boat taxi's to city walk which were particulary enjoyable at night when the area was beautifully lit.

The only criticism was the ridiculously overpriced drinks at the pool area but apart from that the hotel is hard to fault.
