“excellent location and express pass”
Reviewed July 5, 2011

The great benefit was the express pass allowing you to pass the lines for the rides at universal parks as many times as you liked. 5 minutes in the lines instead of 60 minutes!
we were a bit worried about the rock theme and the way the hotel is described on the home page. We expected it to be very noicy and chosed a room facing the surroundings. The room had a beautiful park outside the window, was clean and silent.
The pool was closed as soon as there was a thiunderstorm or rain and was so for an hour after the stomr had passed. i can understand the do for the guest safety but every time we went to the pool for a swim it was closed.
the music at the pool was a little bit to loud if you want to rest and relax. Kinds did not mind though. Pool was crowded but sunbeds were available.
Great location as we walked to the park and back to the hotel in afternoon and then went back to the theme parks in the evening.
i would recommend this place but skip the ribs at the restaurant, i have had much better

Room Tip: silent rooms are the cheapest, facing the park

Very clean hotel, nice room (paper thin walls and doors) and the express pass really paid for itself, as does the early entry to Potterland. This is what you are paying the price for, first in the queue on the rides and early potter.
The hotel itself is very clean, the reception staff and check-in very friendly and efficient.
The pool area is large and very clean, lots of posers around the pool to laugh at. Hotel itself seems more geared up towards teenagers/young adults, than for those with younger children.
Made the mistake of ordering a drink from the pool bar, one beer, one cocktail and 2 cokes cost me $41!!!!!! Waitresses helpfully informed me she had added 20% gratuity, which was very kind of her, 20% for doing what exactly I could not tell you, we were sat next to the bar so she only had to reach over for the drinks, then I couldn't find her for ages when I wanted to pay and go.
I wouldn't take young children here, but for teenagers the whole "vibe" of the place would be perfect. As I said before, premium price for us was for the perks, hence only a 1 night stay.

This hotel was perfect for our family. Two adults and 13 yr old daughter. We paid additional $50 per night for Club level room. We had a great time, great view of Universal Studios from our pool front room. Loved the music playing, all the displays of artists outfits etc. and the pool was wonderful. $15.00 per night parking and charge for high speed internet, which we decided not to use.

Room Tip: We accepted a Club level room offer at check in.

Worth the price just for the proximity to Universal! Great decor! Club room was worth the extra price. Just a cool and hip hotel!

Too loud! Pool music starts early and lasts until late. Rooms average and not worth the money. This hotel is for teens. Yelling teens were pounding on doors and walls!

Unfortunately, I did not care for this resort as much as our teenagers. We stayed at the Portofino Bay last time and I definitely liked the serene atmosphere and decor MUCH better there. Beyond the lobby and grounds of the Hard Rock I thought we could have been at a Holiday Inn. I did not feel like that at the Portofino, it was gorgeous throughout. However, the teenagers wanted to try a different Universal resort, so we did. There were some positives, of course. The deluxe room was quite large which was a huge plus for our party of five. The room was ready early which was also great as it started pouring at about 1:00pm the day we checked-in. The resort is a little closer to the parks than the Portofino which was nice as there is a pretty walkway. It absolutely cannot be understated how much of a plus it was to stay at one of the resort properties and get into WWOHP early. I was able to get some wonderful pictures (not to mentioned ride the attractions several times) before the general public arrived. Nevertheless, the next time we stay at a Universal property (and pay upwards of $450/night) I will stay at the much classier Portofino again or try the Royal Pacific Resort.

Room Tip: Spring for a deluxe room, the extra space is grea!

Excellent location with early admission to Harry Potter ride and a nice pool area to kick back and relax and then an easy walk (or bike pull, or water taxi) back to fun restaurants.on City Walk.
