“Royal Pacific.."”
Reviewed April 11, 2004

Easter Break Week (April 5-9), family with 2 teens (13 & 16). We had a wonderful stay at Royal Pacific and wanted to share with Trip Advisor users since the site helped us plan our trip. Firstly, find the best rate you can... We paid $239, but we booked at the last minute for a peak time. Secondly, you can use your front of the line pass from 8am the day of check-in, until the parks close on the day of check-out, so be sure to take advantage of this perk and check-in early..it is WELL worth it. Thirdly, join Lowe's first program online before you go. You MAY get a room upgrade (depending on occupancy) and you'll get a special "treat" upon arrival. The hotel is rated as a 4 star, and that's accurate. It's not a 5 star, so you don't have the extra amenties. Our room was a standard room w/ pool view and 2 Queen beds. It was adequate, but not spacious, for 4 people. The room was in good repair, everything in working order, and the vanity outside the bathtub/toilet was a helpful feature w/4 people sharing the room. If you don't want to be near the pets or smoking, request tower 3...it's non-pet and non-smoking.The grounds are lovely, the pool area is great, and the walk or water taxi to the parks very convenient. Self-parking was not a problem, even during peak time. ($6/day)If you are planning a trip to Universal with teens, staying on-site at the Royal Pacific is a great option. The teens will have a great time...and you aren't staying there for the room...you're there for the resort and the park express access. Enjoy City-Walk while you're there. There are loads of reasonable restaurants, and it's safe for the teens to explore for a while on their own. We enjoyed Magaritaville, Hard Rock, & NBA City.

We loved this place! The decor is great. The staff was polite, helpful and friendly. The pool was beautiful and the grounds well kept. We loved the pool area- and the beach. It was very tropical- we had a steel drum band playing one day which was great. Our room was a standard room with 2 queen beds- top floor overlooking the pool and the parks in the distance. It was a great view- especially for the fireworks! The room was clean, well lit, etc. No complaints. The bar at the pool served food and drinks - prompt service and reasonable prices. We joined the Lowe's club and did receive a very nice bottle of Chardonnay as a welcome. We were traveling with 2 teenage girls and they loved it! The water taxi was convenient- we also walked to the park. No complaints at all- we would return gladly! We have stayed at the Hard Rock also and we prefer the atmosphere here!

The whole atmoshere was great if you like the South Pacific theme (which I do). The pool, bars, and common areas were very nice. The staff as a whole was more than adequate. The Tchoup Chop served some great food (and drinks). The water taxi was good......however, the room was another matter. It was small, dark and had big dark scrapes on a couple of the walls. The air conditioning controls were in a corner, hidden by a lamp (that didn't work), and you had to reach over furniture to get to it. A short person or child would have to climb on a chair to get to it. Would I stay there again? Maybe, but I would check out the Hard Rock first.

This hotel was perfectly fine. We paid $200 a night and that is what it was worth. It is wonderful to be on Universal grounds and the express line pass is by far the best hotel amenity possible if you are planning to visit the theme parks.

Some things about the hotel are a bit annoying, such as the bedding not being a quality thread count and the maid service taking away my soap each night! But overall, I would stay at this hotel again and believe their normal rate is fair.

The good: Express Pass - no line-ups at the park makes a good day great. The public areas of the hotel - very well done. The pool - again, good. The breakfast buffet - we had a rate that included the buffet - good selection and service in the restaurant. The staff - generally pleasant and helpful. The Not so Good: Rooms are smallish and the color scheme is strangely 1970's and manages to make a 2 year-old hotel look 30 years old. The self-parking lot - the walk to the theme parks is shorter than the walk from the parking lot to the hotel. The Loews First gift - shouldn't really complain about the bottle of wine you get if you're a member except it showed up at 10:15 at night and the call to say it was coming never happened. The guy was very apologetic and said the manager had told the staff that all Loews First gifts had to be delivered the day the member checked in (guess he had read the comments on this site). Free newspaper - only thing here is make sure you put "Do Not Disturb" on your door or you may get a knock at the door at 7:10 in the morning to "personally" deliver your paper.

This hotel is fantasic. The rooms are small, but the attention the hotel staff gives you is very personal. They always call you by your name, even if it's just the Bellman picking-up your bags. By-passing all the lines @ Universal was awesome. The Water-Taxi is a nice touch.
If you have a family you will want to stay here just for the pool area.
Now for the inside scoop on how to get a great price. Before you do anything, sign-up as a Loews Member, it's FREE & intitles you to an upgraded room @ Check-In. Get the Entertainment Book/Universal Fan Club price of $169, but you'll have to book about 3months in advance. Don't ever pay full price, call the hotel directly & tell them you would like to apply these discounts. At Check-In, ask for "Club-Level" as your free upgrade. It's on the top floor, & comes with a free breakfast, afternoon beer/wine, evening desserts. None of the other hotel guests can access this floor. You can use your Key-Card anywhere in the park just like a Credit Card, & they will deliver your purchases right to your room. The only thing I could complain about: why do they charge you a small fee to use the phone in your room, and why do they need to charge $6 day($12 valet) to park a vehicle on their property.

My family stayed here during President's weekend. We loved it. The service was great. The room was very clean and pretty and we were well supplied everyday with towels, etc. The service in the restaurants was very good, too. My teenage boys loved it. We looked at the Hard Rock and the Portofino, but we all liked the Royal Pacific the best. We can't wait to go back again.
