“South Pacific Paradise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

Stayed for 7 nights at the Royal Pacific Resort Hotel from 10th May 2013 – 17th May 2013 in a standard King room.

Prior to check in, we had emailed the hotel requesting that the room be de-feathered (i.e. swap out the feather pillows for synthetic ones). At check in we were told that this had been done – however when we settled in the room – we both had allergy problems and realised the de-feathering had not been done.

The room was big enough for the 2 of us with plenty of storage but is smaller than the rooms in the 2 other resort hotels. We had a room overlooking the front of the hotel / parks on the 5th floor. The room was a little tired in areas. Our sink was badly cracked which was a little offputting and the bottom of the vanity mirror was rusty which wasn’t great.

In my opinion the food at the Royal Pacific is the best of the 3 resort hotels. For a lighter breakfast on the go the Orchid Court is great. If you fancy something more substantial the choice at the buffet breakfast at Islands is amazing. If you like Asian food, you will enjoy Islands for dinner – I recommend the Kung Pao chicken with crispy noodles, but our favourite is the wok evenings on a Friday and Saturday where you pay a fixed price and then choose the meat/fish, veg and sauce that you’d like that you combine with rice or noodles as a chef cooks it in front of you. This is really fun and with a fixed price you can eat as much as you want. Jakes is also great for meals – the grilled cheese and tomato sandwich here is really special.

The pool is fun – rather than having a water slide there is a children’s play area with lots of water cannons etc. The pool side treats are really nice – e.g. cold towels, frozen grapes etc The poolside food is amazing – I can recommend the chicken tenders with the teriyaki glaze and the chicken quesadilla.

The hotel theming is beautiful and it does feel very tropical. One of my favourite moments is in the early morning when the dew is still around and the smell of the plants is amazing.

All in all an excellent hotel – We stayed at all 3 Universal resort hotels during the trip (see my other reviews) and this one is my joint favourite. Although it’s not quite as luxurious as the Portofino, it feels so tropical you do feel like you have been transported to a tropical oasis, the food is great and it is a very short easy walk to Islands of Adventure which is great if you are going for the early opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Tip – The airline check in kiosks by the concierge make it very quick and easy to get your boarding passes printed out if you are flying home

The whole family loved everything about the Hotel. Check-in was very easy. At every turn the staff were wonderful! Room was clean, comfortable and everything worked. Hotel is a short walk or boat ride from the theme parks and the walk can be shorter than waiting for the boat especially if you are going to IoA park.

The mini-bar water and nuts kept getting in the way; I really wish hotels would give that up...

Only complaint - Room Key, Express Pass, Park ticket all being separate pieces of paper/plastic seems so 2000ish; come on this is 2013 can't you get the computers to talk to each other. Disney managed this YEARS ago...

My family (husband, 9 year old son, daughters 5 & 4, mother and grandmother) stayed at Royal Pacific May 19-May 24. We booked our vacation directly through Universal simply to have the closeness to the parks and the Unlimited Express Pass. With so many conflicting reviews I will do my best to be as detailed as possible with the PROS first...

PROS:
The convience to the parks and city walk is remarkable. We took the short 7 minute walk every time since we had a pretty large stroller that we didn't want to collapse to get on the boat. The walk is beautiful to say the least and is shaded most of the way. By far the easiest way to travel around.

UNLIMITED EXPRESS PASS and EARLY ENTRY is a MUST!!! It was not particularly busy during our trip but these passes saved us valuable time each day. You can easily complete an entire park in 5 or less hours using these passes. Our longest wait for either park was MIB on Thursday and we waited approximately 10 minutes. We were able to walk right on The Forbidden Journey when we took advantage of the extra hour in the morning (for resort guest only) and then we waited to go back to the Harry Potter area after 4 o'clock and walked right on again. After IOA opened to the public the waited shot to 60 minutes and the line for Butter Beer was easily 30 minutes. Even though it's hard to get up early on vacation this will save you lots of time and being crammed into a very small space with TONS of people.

THE HOTELis very beautiful and landscaped to perfection. Baggage guys were very pleasant and helpful. Our hop even insisted on filling our cooler with ice before leaving it in our room. Check-In was quick and painless. Procedures for aquiring your tickets and express passes is self- explanatory at each kiosk.

THE POOL area was kept clean and towels available at all times. Plenty of lounges in the sun or shade. The activities director was great. She had games around the pool that offered free smoothies to kids and adult beverages for the older ones that played. She even offered frozen rags for cooling, frozen grapes, and smoothie samples at different times each day.

THE ROOMS are nice. Our party had two rooms across the hall from each other. One with a pool view and the other with a park view (2nd Floor Tower 1). The rooms were the same size but set-up differntly. Pool view room bathroom had a door between toliet/shower and dressing area. Park view room had very large bathroom with everything enclosed. Park view set-up was my favorite because I could wake early and get completely dressed and not wake the kiddos. The beds were comfy and as were the pillows. In room safes that you could add a personal code was a nice touch.

CONS:

PRICEY.....It is still very expensive to stay here if you book rack rate. Shop around for good deal that includes park tickets.

Restuarants on site were VERY expensive for a family of five. Ended up at City Walk evenings not at parks (more economical).

Parking and WIFI SHOULD be included in room rate. Yes, there is a gate that you have to use your room key but we NEVER saw anyone that LOOKED like SECURITY roaming the parking lots. $18.00 a Day Plus Tax to Park and $10.00 for WIFI just seems rediculous.

POOL BEVERAGES are crazy, stupid expensive. Once you pay tax and gratutity you will pay upwards of $18.00 for a mixed drink.

ROOMS are nice but don't be fooled into thinking that 5 will fit. I have no idea what you would do with a roll away. We barely had enough room for luggage. Our son ended up staying with his grandmother across the hall. Thank goodness we had two rooms. As I stated above, we had two rooms with totally different views and set-up. The room that I liked the best (set-up wise) did have a flaw. Every morning they begin testing the HULK at IOA around 6:30 and you will most certainly hear it. If you are light sleeper I would suggest a different view because this ride is loud and runs from early in the morning till late at night! Managing the temps in the room was a little bothersome. We had the thermostat set to 69 ALL THE TIME and it never got really cool. If you are a cold room sleeper I would suggest a fan for cooling and blocking out noise if you have a park view.

OVERALL we had a very nice experience at the Royal Pacific. Seemed the most family friendly of the three. Will most certainly stay at this property again when we choose to return to these theme parks.

Room Tip: Tower two is closer to pool and park path. Pool and garden view have much less noise!

We have stayed at Hard rock twice and believe that we enjoyed Royal pacific more. Has a relaxed feel and beautiful landscape. It is a liitle bit longer of a walk. So many nice touches here like upon check in there was a lemonade pitcher sit up everyday. Also at the pool they provide complimentay little swimmers for the little swimmers. Wish we had known prior. I would caution anyone about eating at the pool area. We walked up and bought chicken strips they charged 2.00 tip and we were the ones waiting they were 10.00 for 2 strips. Rip off!!! Very nice with toddler to walk and take the afternoon nap. Hope you will consider this hotel we loved it. Also, we are almost certain housekeeping took 20$ out of our wallet. As soon as we arrived we called for crib and had 100$ in wallet got back to find 80$. So hide your wallet

We stayed 3 nights at Loews Royal Pacific. The hotel is beautiful. The pool is lovely. I chose it because of the location and the unlimited Universal fast passes and early admission to Islands of Adventure. We were not disappointed. I was concerned at first about the cost of meals and drinks at this hotel because this is a little expensive for us. When comparing the surrounding hotels and adding on Universal tickets I found that there was not too much difference in price if you are adding on fast passes anyway. We opted to stay in this hotel for the fast passes. The rooms are very clean, service was excellent, there is towel service by the pool, sunscreen and water are poolside, movies at the pool at night, games for the kids, water shuttle to Universal or 10 min walk to the parks. We had Saturday morning brunch and it was wonderful but the rest of the mornings we ate from the a la carte menu at the bar (becomes breakfast bar in the morning) for under $10 per person for things like Starbucks coffee, juice, milk, yoghurt, Danish, bagels, cereal and fruit. That was more than enough food in the morning especially if you are planning to ride the Hulk or Rip Ride Rocket. Overall the hotel was excellent and I recommend do not go to Universal without the unlimited fast passes. We ran past 1-2 hour line ups to get to the front, over and over again. I felt a little guilty going by everyone but that's how it's set up. Would stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone going to Universal Orlando.

We stayed at Loews Royal Pacific Memorial weekend 2013 and had a great time! We usually never stay at onsite hotels due to the high cost, opting to go where Priceline and Hotwire would take us. This vacation we had a 6 month old baby and decided that staying at hotel we could go back to with out having to completely leave the Universal complex. Well it worked out just as planned. My 9 year old son and I were able to take advantage of the early park admittance while my wife mother-in-law and baby slept in, and got ready at their own pace. When they did get around they were able to walk to the park and meet us. The other great thing was the free express passes for every person staying at the hotel. Going on any holiday weekend express passes are a must. We were able to save $250 a day in express passes. It's worth staying onsite right there. The rooms at the Royal Pacific are average and definitely not worth the price. The Garden view room pretty much looks at a tree covering any garden that may be there. So if you plan on spending all day in your room, I would choose another hotel. The pool was great, and they had activities every hour. The staff at the hotel were awesome. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning on getting express passes or with small children that may require unexpected trips back to the Hotel.

Room Tip: I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning on getting express passes or with small children.

We stayed at the Royal Pacific with our son and two dogs. Loews allows you to bring pets. The grounds are very nicely kept and my son loved the pool. We liked the breakfast buffet but weren't crazy about our dinner. The server we had for breakfast was a very sweet, friendly and funny woman. The service at this hotel is great. The room itself was on the small side and seemed like it could use some updating. Of course, we had to stay in the pet-friendly room so I'm not sure if there's a difference. We loved being within walking distance of the parks. We really enjoyed the early entry to the parks (if you stay on property, you get in an hour early). We were able to hit all the rides in Harry Potter world before the park even opened to the general public! That along with the express passes made the stay well worth the money. I'm not sure if I'll stay at the Royal Pacific again only because I want to try the other two Universal hotels.
