Disney's All-Star Music Resort
Ranked #134 of 340 Hotels in Orlando
Reviewed October 29, 2012

We stayed at this hotel October 18-21, 2012. We were on the top floor in the Rock and Roll area. I always request a top floor room to eliminate the noise of people walking above us. We were at the very end of the hallway near the stairs. We had zero noise from other guests and no foot traffic either. This was really the perfect location for us. The buses left a little to be desired at times, but I still prefer the bus over driving, especially when going to the Magic Kingdom. We dined at the food court a few times and the portions were good, as was the food. We got a great passholder rate so I was very pleased with that. If you are looking for a fancy hotel, this isn't it. But it is clean, there is good customer service and all your basic needs are covered, including a mini fridge.

The reason we choose this property was for Price..we were attending Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom which is from 7pm until Midnight, we only stayed the one night. We wanted to have the bus transportation to the park from our hotel so we did not have to drive.
Disney Staff is always the BEST, amazing people, love them all.
The rooms are ok, nothing special, they look like old time motel rooms. 2 Double Beds, small fridge, and a TV. The lighting was poor, too dark.
The food court was very crowded and very expensive for breakfast!
I Love everything about Disney..but not their value or moderate resorts....I will take a Fairfield or Courtyard by Marriott anytime, plus Marriott value hotels include breakfast!

Room Tip: The resort is very large, we requested a room close to the bus transportation, which is also close t...

I am going to break this review down by categories so hopefully it makes it easier to read.

The family suite: For families traveling with one or more small child this room was perfect. There is a separate master bedroom, living room with a pull out couch and a twin sized pull out chair. The room also includes 2 full bathrooms which we very much appreciated. For parents, one parent could be giving the kid(s) a bath in one bathroom while the other parent gets ready in the second one. I found this to be a huge bonus! We didn't use the fridge/sink/microwave too much but were glad to have that space for drinks/storage.

The noise: I saw many reviews about how noisy this hotel was and they were right. We would hear the people above us flushing their toilets and even talking when they got a little loud. This didn't bother us all that much but if you like a very quiet hotel room this is probably not the place for you. If you are traveling without kids I would say go else where. However for people with children at least you won't feel weird when your kids are being their usual loud selves!

The Calypso building: Our suite was in the Calypso building which was very convenient since it is the closest to the lobby/dining hall/buses to parks. I would definitely recommend trying to get into this building for those reasons. However, make sure you do not get a room that faces the pool. The music is very loud until 11 pm when the pool closes.

The food court: There is a huge food court that serves meals and snacks. It opens very early and stays open pretty late so it should cover any dining needs you have while at the hotel. We ate breakfast there and got drinks/snacks there. It wasn't fancy but we thought it was more than adequate and were glad to have it there as it was quick and convenient. It gets insanely crowded for breakfast so the earlier you go the better.

The pools: The Calypso pool is much bigger than the piano shaped pool. There were lots of lifeguards around and a great kiddie pool. This is a great spot for families to hang out at the end of the day to swim and eat. There are tons of tables/chairs outside so you can easily grab dinner from the food court and sit outside eating in your swim suits.

The buses: They have bus transportation to and from the airport, to the parks and to other resorts. This was very convenient and is a great perk of staying at one of the Disney resorts. I saw a lot of reviews saying people were unhappy with the bus service and that it was slow. That was not our experience at all. We almost never had to wait and the bus drivers were great. No complaints!

Miscellaneous: The resort has a small arcade and a great gift shop so you can buy gifts there instead of at the park if you are so inclined. This resort is very close to the Coronado Springs resort which has a great restaurant called the Maya Grill. I saw a lot of reviews criticizing the decor of this resort. Yes it is a big dated looking and it is definitely nothing fancy but it is a value resort. I am not sure what people expected but I thought it was more than adequate. We did feel that the maid service was sub par but we did not complain about this as we did not spend a ton of time in our suite.

All in all we had a nice experience at this hotel and for families who don't want to spend a fortune but definitely want to stay at a Disney resort the family suite is the way to go. This resort is the only value resort that offers a family suite so it is a big money saver.

Room Tip: Stay away from rooms that face the pool. For families with young children definitely check out the...

We had a great time and the room was fine. We spend very little time in the room when we visit Disney so we do not need a large fancy room to stay and save a few dollars. The staff was helpful and curtious at all times. We spent most of our time out at the parks but ate at the hotel food court - less expensive than the parks. There were two pools with a number of different games being played and a movie shown at night by the pool on a large blowup screen. Only issue with our room was the lighting. It would take a few minutes to light up in the bathroom area and we had to "jiggle" the light switch sometimes to get it to work. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter but it is a long walk. Most of the activity is at the first pool and...

This hotel, as I suspect most of the Disney hotels, has amazing service. Staff is cheerful, friendly and beyond helpful. I absolutely loved the airport check-in and baggage drop, which was the only way I caught my flight on time! They even called and left a message when their maid service didn't align with my schedule.

However, I was traveling on business, and there is no doubt that this hotel caters to vacationing families. It is far from peaceful, with kids everywhere and constant movies, games and activities for the kids. I'm sure it was a great experience for families with children, but when traveling for business, the constant stream of screaming kids and the lack of any available healthy food (not a decent salad to be found) are not ideal. Rooms are small and unremarkable, with the prime features being the pools and wealth of kids' activities.

Additionally, the hotel wifi is so restrictive that perfectly clean stock photo sites that I require to update our corporate website are blocked, making it impossible to work.

Room Tip: If you book in anything other than building 1 or 10, you're in for a walk. I was in 6, and it wa...

We only spent 1 night, but we had a wonderful time. We arrived at the hotel about 10:30AM. I had done the online check-in so everything was all ready to go. We were able to get into our room by 11:30. After settleing in, we hopped a bus to the park. After closing the MK down at 11:00PM, we jumped on a return bus and we were back to the resort by 12:00AM.
The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Well, quiet until about 7:30 AM, when someone nearby started taking a shower. The hot water heater squealed. That would be the only complaint. We had breakfast at the commissary onsite (not free). There was a good selection and what we had was good. Breakfast was expensive, but everybody enjoyed it, and nobody went away hungry. Food at Disney is very expensive, but there is always plenty of it. We were able to use the pool, and facilities the rest of the day, even after checking out at 11:00AM.
I would recommend this resort to anyone wanting to stay on property, without spending a lot of money.

Room Tip: Stay on the upper floors to avoid noise.

First night, could not get the room to cool off. Called for someone to come out and check the air. Waited until 2AM, no one came. One night called for toilet paper. We were almost out and didn't think we would have enough for the next day. NO ONE CAME!!! Very low standards for Disney.
Need more bus pickups and drop off area's. One is not enough and so far away from your room. Most nights waited almost 45 minutes for a bus to the Music resort, then when they finally came, we all had to pile in one bus. Three resorts in one bus!
Maybe Disney is more worried about raising prices then customer service ! The old mighty dollar!!!
