“Lovely hotel...would go back”
Reviewed May 22, 2005

We stayed in this hotel with our 3 year-old daughter. We got a really good deal on the hotel and we were very pleased. Lovely receptions area, very pleasant staff. Our room was lovely and we had maid service every day, as well as the local newspaper! The pool was lovely too (spa closed due to refurbishment so cannot comment on that). The buffet breakfast was fantastic 5/5...highly recommended. My only complaint was a minor one - only 2 washers and 2 dryers for all the rooms in the hotel. Apart from that, it was great - would definately recommend and was situated a short walk from universal (and accross the road from our favourite diner TGI's!)

What a disaster of a hotel! Only stop here if you are truly desperate. When we arrived at reception there were no other customers. The 3 staff were holding a conversation and were reluctant to serve us. I asked about the extra charge for parking and whether they would honour their original contract with us which stated that parking was included in the price. The Front Desk Manager told us that we had to pay or go to another hotel but that they would not refund our hotel prepayment. Eventually he agreed to deduct one nights parking charge but this was not taken off our bill when we left.
While we were at reception another customer phoned to complain about the charge. The receptionist slammed the phone down on him/her and a number of negative remarks were made about customers in general.
We asked for some assistance with our luggage and were referred to the Bell Boy, when we spoke to him he simply said no and walked away. Apart from being bad customer service this was just plain bad manners.
We had been told to ask at the front of the hotel for a parking permit. The gentleman responsible for this was not at his desk but was several yards away using his cellphone - evenually he came over to us and made it pretty clear that he was not happy to be interrupted. Welcome to the Doubletree!
The rooms we found to be poor for this class of hotel. The floor was not vacuumed. Coffee was not replaced. Towels were removed and not replaced. Etc etc.
The musty/mouldy smell which other reviewers refer to at this hotel we think is caused by leaking pipes. We noted several leaking and the buckets under them had overflowed and soaked the carpet.
Complaints to the CEO and Director responsible for customer service have been ignored. The manager at the hotel was not identified. This was the only hotel we stopped at where the manager was not named. We will never stop at a Doubletree or Hilton again. Hilton could learn a lot from other hotel groups about how to run a hotel.

We stayed at the Doubletree from 4/30-5/4 and after reading reviews from this website were skeptical but ended up being very pleasantly surprised. We paid $58/night and it was worth every penny. We spent three days at Disney and it was about a 15 minute drive.

Our room was on the 12th floor of the south tower and it was very clean except fot the grout between the bathroom tiles which could have used a good bleaching, which is my only minimal complaint. The water pressure in the shower was fabulous. The shampoo/conditioner/soap/coffee/towels were replenished every morning. The beds and feather pillows were very comfortable. And, of course the warm chocolate chip cookies were delicious.

The pool and kiddie pool were nice and warm and not overly crowded. There is a bar by the pool playing music, very relaxing. There is also a Pizza Hut Express, Krispy Kream Donut, a sitdown restaurant, and a bar in the hotel. There are also many restaurants close to the hotel.

There is a $5/day parking fee which we didnt know about untill we got there, but based on the price of our room we didnt think it was a big deal. There is also a $20/day fee if you want to rent a refrigerator, which we thought was ridiculous, so we went to Wal-Mart and bought two styrofoam coolers for $1.26 a piece. There is a $10/day if you want internet access.

Every morning there seemed to be a new group of teenagers on a class trip in the lobby. I dont know which tower or floor they stayed but we never saw or heard them anywhere but the lobby, which was chaotic at times.

I would definately stay at this hotel again!!

When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted with a smile and a warm delicious cookie. It did not take them long to find us a room in the south tower on the sixteenth floor. When I got off the elevator, there were a couple of stains on the carpet in the hallway, but nothing to the extent of what other vacationers witnessed. The room was clean. Our beds were made everyday, and the room was cleaned everyday. The staff always greeted us with a smile and was always helpful. It is obvious that this is an old hotel, but they did what they could to make the room look and smell presentable, the beds comfortable, and our stay enjoyable.

Just returned from a weekend stay. Paid $70/nt for the room and I would have been horrified had we paid full price. It was not a great value even at $70.

Upon arrival, we were all but pushed out of an elevator by an overzealous bell hop rushing to get in ahead of us with a cart full of baggage. Not something I would expect for a hotel in this category. But we laughed this off given the bell hop's age.

Our room was located on the 10th floor of the North tower. While minor renovations have been made, our room had already shown some wear - large stains on the carpet as we entered the room. This is an old hotel and no amount of carpet or paint can mask the mildewy smell that hits you when entering the room. Bathroom was tiny (typical for the Hilton chain) and fixtures showed their age - including rust. Towels were decent and plentiful. Toiletries were present but minimal.

The carpets did not appear to have been vacuumed since the last guest. I placed a call to guest services and after about 18 rings (no kidding) the phone was answered. Surprisingly minutes after my request housekeeping was there to vacuum.

The best feature of the room was the beds. The bedding was clean with nice sheets and a feather bed on top of the mattress. The room seemed well soundproofed to me. Unfortunately our air conditioner made a strange dripping noise, so I was not able to sleep well.

Overall, not even warm cookies or nice bedding can make up for the fact that this really is an old hotel. I would not stay there again - especially given the plethora of choices available surrounding the hotel. There were many hotels in every direction that were built within the last 5 years (let alone 30 years) that would have provided a better room for the money spent.

If you like elevators that smell like mold, lamps that don't work, having to walk on your shower curtain because it droops into your tub, the sound of running water from your leaking faucet, not being able to get caffeinated coffee, and having to call repeatedly to get somebody to answer the phone (only to later not fix the issues you call about) - than this would be a dream destination for you. After having them bring me 3 wireless keyboards so that I could use their internet services (no wireless access available) I gave up and had them remove the charge. Even better would be the negative conversations taking place about the customers between the staff at the front desk. We were there on travel and have notified our admin to never, ever book us at this hotel again.

Great location, we did not rent a car so we walked to Universal everyday, about 10 mins, safe, beautiful walk past the on site hotels. Basic, no frills hotel room, pool was big and busy, hard to find a chair but it was Easter week and the whole world was in Orlando. Probably would only stay there again if I could not get a good rate for one of Universals on-site hotels which are probably worth the extra money if you want to slurge.
