Disney's Coronado Springs Resort
Ranked #172 of 342 Hotels in Orlando
Reviewed June 15, 2013

My husband & I stayed here for the first time basically for his business' annual conference.
The surroundings were lovely but the resort was too isolated from Disney parks and the bus
transportation was not my favorite mode to travel. We did make it to the Boardwalk resort and saw the paths that connected this resort to the Hollywood Studio and Epcot which you can walk to. Also, the food choices were not to my liking at the resort. The Pepper Market is the only option for a meal unless you leave the resort. It was okay, plenty of choices but overpriced in my opinion. Disneyworld may be the happiest place on earth but in my opinion, it is the most expensive place on earth. I cannot imagine how much families much pay for a week.
We most likely will not return and if we do, would definitely stay at another resort.

Our family of four stayed at Coronado Springs Resort from 6/7 to 6/13 2013 in a business class room in Cabanas 9B. Cabanas 9B is the perfect location as it is right next to Bus Stop 1 and next to the main eating area. The resort is huge and beautiful. My daughter loved to sit in a hammock under a palm and read a book in the late afternoon. The hammocks were located right outside Cabanas 9B adjacent the main lagoon. The main pool was crowded but fun. Small pools located in various locations around the property were much less crowded. Our room layout was typical Disney moderate. Two queen beds and an extra fold up bed for one of the kids. The bathroom was adequate and the double pocket doors helped with privacy. Housekeeping did a fine job with our room.
Transportation to the parks was crowded. The cast members did their best to call in extra buses when required. Again - no complaints
The best part of business class rooms, besides location, is the private lounge. The lounge is open in the morning from 7-10. Fresh fruit, muffins, yogurt, etc., along with cappuccino, espresso, coffee, tea and juice are standard fare. In the evening, from 5-10, the menu changes to cheese, dips and dried fruit, along with soda, water, wine, and beer. At 7, chocolate covered pretzels are also added to the mix. The lounge, which I called the Oasis, provided some much needed down time during a typical busy Disney vacation. The Oasis was staffed by very friendly, helpful, and engaging cast members who shared their Disney experiences. They told us about hidden Mickeys, Princesses, special places in the parks, and interesting anecdotes. Special thanks to Courtney, Adam, and Kayla.
We will return again.

This was my family's first trip to Disney, so we did not know quite what to expect with the accommodations. We booked with our local AAA travel office, and they put us in a preferred room at Coronado Springs. The room was sparkling clean with plenty of towels, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, soaps, and coffee. Our housekeeper, Joyce, was fantastic! She always kept us supplied with plenty of the items we needed. Our room had two queen beds, and we were on the second floor of Casitas building number 1 with a view of the courtyard. This was a little walk to El Centro, where Pepper Market, Café Rix, Panchitos gift shop, and the registration and check in/out are. Other reviewers are correct when they say to bring your sneakers because you will have a bit of a walk to everything. The registration staff and the concierges were fabulous and always had good advice for us about where to find things. The Pepper Market isn't the best place to eat, and we discovered too late that Café Rix was a better choice for snacks, sandwiches, and breakfasts. I didn't discover that Café Rix had gelato until we were about to check out, but I suppose that's better for my waistline. You can use your refillable mug to get plenty of soft drinks, coffee, and hot chocolate at Café Rix also. As we were getting ready to leave to go home, we went to grab snacks at Café Rix. We were fortunate enough to have a lovely lady at the register tell us that we could convert our unused quick service and table service meals into snacks. How great is that?!! So if you're on the Disney Dining Plan and have unused meals or are worried about using them up before you leave, be sure to ask about converting them to snacks if you need to. The Dig Site Pool was fantastic because our 11-year-old son loved the slide there. They also were roasting marshmallows by a makeshift fire pit there one night, so that was pretty cool for the kids. The adults can also take advantage of the snack bar and cocktails at that pool, as well as refill soft drinks there. They also had the Maya Grill, a place for table service dinners, but we didn't eat there. Not much in the way of kid-friendly items there, and we weren't really in the mood for Mexican food. I might try another Disney property if we ever return to Orlando, but I wouldn't discount Coronado Springs either.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in Casitas building 1 or 2 since they are closest to El Centro. Also, try Café Rix f...

Very good experience. Clean rooms with queen size beds and doors to close off the sink/closet area to provide privacy for changing. This helps when traveling with teenagers.
The staff was fantastic and everyone was very friendly.

Room Tip: The Casitas area was very nice and close to the bus stops.

We had an excellent week at Coronado Springs. The hotel met our expectations well and we would definitely stay here again but likely will try other Disney hotels for the experience.

This was my first time staying onsite and my wife's second time, although she last stayed at Caribbean Beach when she was a teenager.

Arrival:
Disney makes the check-in online process easy so that you can prepare for your stay. With the mydisneyexperience online as well as the app on your phone, I suggest everyone plan ahead with reservations for dinner, hotels, and at least have an idea what to hit first and when at the parks.
Disney gives you the option of either getting your disney bag transfer tags early or after you get to the airport. We ended up deciding to get our bags to the bus ourselves but you can also drop your claim tickets off at the disney magical express gate. We wanted to get swimsuits out of our bags since we were getting to the hotel so early and we were unsure if your room would be ready. Bags were ready for us and we walked to the disney magical express check in counter. It is very similar to check-in at the airport. Get your print out for the bus and walk to the next section where you get sorted by resort/bus. This was super easy and our bus was already there. We gave our bags including the stroller and we right on. We were the first stop so it was great. At Coronado we walked right over to check in. I had done check in online so it was fast and easy. Our room was ready at 1030 am already which was awesome. Although maybe not the first choice for all, I was very happy that we got 7b as our hotel. The water view was of the pool, which probably was not worth requesting since you have no balcony. It did serve the purpose of getting us into 7b though. I probably would have saved the $100, though, in retrospect.
Getting to the room:
I knew it would be a walk and luckily it was not raining. It was a nice walk across the bridges and gave us time to check out the grounds.
The room:
I did have to call the luggage guys to let them know our room was ready which was supposed to be automatic but no big deal. For some this would be a mark on the service, though. I also had to call twice (once when we got there and once before dinner) to get the pack 'n' play we had requested on the reservation to get delivered. Again no big deal for us but it might be a mark on service for others. The second time it was brought right up, I just think the message was not passed from luggage to housekeeping the first time. All of the rooms that I am aware of, including ours, in the Ranchos have their windows facing the corridor. This is why I think the water view is worth it in the Ranchos as your window opens to the corridor first and then the view. The room is spacious with room for our suitcases, a desk, a dresser with TV, and a sink outside the bathroom which is handy for families. We had 2 queen beds and the pack 'n' play. Our room was clean with a clean bathroom including newly caulked corners in the shower which looked nice.
Proximity
One of the reasons I wanted 7b was that it was an excellent location for our family - a small pool great for quick dips (especially after a day at the parks), a short walk to the dig site, and a short walk to bus stop 4. If you are planning on getting one of the first buses to the parks, it is important to NOT take the main stop at the convention center = bus stop 1 as it is the last stop and the buses are sometimes full first thing in the morning! The dig site was close enough that one of us could run down and refill our mugs even if we were just hanging out at the small pool or in the room.
The dig site
We loved the dig site. The water slide was fun, the stairs at the base of the pyramid were a favorite place for our 5 year old to sit at times, and the pool was large enough to not feel cramped even with a lot of kids and adults in the pool. The cast members do a great job with activities to get the kids moving when not swimming and our son loved them - water balloon toss, a form of musical chairs (musical colored stars), trivia, the wet chair game (like a dunk tank), and more. Also, the hot tub was big and never felt crowded and was a fun alternative to the pools. Our little 10 month old enjoyed the baby pool as did our 5 year old. The pool bar has two different lines - one for the alcohol bar and one for the food service bar. Service is fast.
The food.
Food in Orlando at most places is not cheap. When you put things into perspective and compare it to other hotels, disney onsite food is not THAT much more and we found it good.
We ate lunch a few times at the dig site bar. The food we had was quickly prepared yet fresh and good. I loved the pork carnitas tacos! Twice. My son loved the kids options.
We also at the pepper market which is an order what you want and pay for what you order sit down set up. You get seated and then go order and get your food. We ate all 3 meals on different days and honestly were not disappointed. The creme brulee french toast was amazing and too much food for me! Service was good. There are some lines at popular eating times or when the restaurant opens after changing meals but even these were not that bad. Plus you could always order from another area if your desired meal line is long. All of the food is fresh and good.
We did eat at the Maya grill one the first night and we all enjoyed it. You can take left over sangria to your room so it is a good deal if you will drink it all to get the pitcher. We split the fajita combination platter and there was a ton of meat. It was very tasty!
Overall we were very pleased with the food. You can eat for less money in Orlando of course and do pay resort prices, but we were happy.
Transportation
Bus service to and from the parks is easy and great. We never had to watch a buss pass by since we boarded at bus stop 4 all but 1 time. The one time we boarded from bus stop 1, we went a little later after breakfast. We had a stroller and always found a spot for it. Considering t was easy and we avoided $15 per day parking, I was very pleased with service. When going back to the hotel, disney has the bus stations set up so that your hotel is assigned a number. That is displayed on a sign. We never had to wait more than 15 minutes for a bus.
The staff
The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our cast member who cleaned our room once neglected to come back after our showering prevented her from servicing our room the first time but for us this was not an issue. A quick call to house keeping and we had more than enough coffee and towels brought. We brought to garbage to the door for them to change (the 10 month old wanted to escape the room!) Food service was always excellent with attentive wait staff. Cast members did a great job with the kids at the pool. Overall we had great service.
The grounds.
The hotel grounds are beautiful. Lush vegetation, well-tended walks, and a nice lake make this an appealing place to look at. The buildings are beautiful as well. We loved the dry creek beds. It was fun for my son to walk with us around the lake looking for turtles in the water or cranes on the land.

All in all, we both were very pleased with the hotel. For me, the ease of the transportation system, savings from not renting a car and parking, excellent service and good food will keep us coming back to disney resorts. If we did not have others to try we would definitely come back to Coronado. I gave it 5 stars since it met and exceeded our expectations. It is not a 5 star hotel by industry rankings (and does not claim to be). We have stayed at a lot of different off-site places in Orlando and likely will not again stay off-site when going to disney!

Room Tip: proximity is important when selecting a room. The walk to the left when exiting the convention is in...

We chose this hotel becuase we knew the kids would be spending the majority of their time at one of the parks and the Coronado Springs Pool. Huge pool , very clean, waterslide, friendly staff and watchfull eye by the lifegurads. Food was excellent as well from the main dining area to the snack bars. I would compare this hotel to the top tier hotels so save yourself 2k and stay here. Only thing that was a pain was the long walk to the main building but you just have to suck it up. Make sure youb make reservations at the 2 top Restaurants in Disney, Le Cellier in Epcot and the California Grill at the Contemporary. The shuttle come every 10 to 15 minutes so the wait is short. IPOD touch is a must to check the wait times at the parks.
