“Beautiful landscaping!”

A quiet, peaceful, adult place away from the cartoons and hectic pace of the Parks. Lovely strolls through trimmed gardens transition your day in the Parks into something more restful. Recommended for all whole need a rest from the hype..

Let's start with the summary. Do you like a quiet hotel, long walks, a hint of Disney and some excellent quick service food? Then this is your hotel. Cast members have a saying for it: "once Port Orleans, always Port Orleans". We have to agree.

So far we have stayed three times in Port Orleans French Quarter, which might already hint how much we like the hotel. For Disney property, the hotel is moderately priced. Paying a bit more gets you out of the bustle of the cheapest hotels. Furthermore, it has happened more often than not that there is some meal deal that is included when booking a moderate hotel, which more than offsets the difference in price. Even without those added bonuses, we would be staying at Port Orleans though.

Let's start with the hotel itself. The rooms are fairly spacious. By US standards the rooms are on the small side, by European/Asian standards the rooms are large. The basic room will get you two double beds, a sitting area with a small table and two chairs, two sinks and a bath in a separate bathroom. We never felt cramped in these rooms. The atmosphere might be busy when you are with 4, but rooms in WDW are mainly to relax, not to spend your whole day in (though you could). Internet is available through Wi-Fi and has tremendously improved over the course of 4 years. Four years ago, you had to pay big money to get a slow, wired connection. Last year, most rooms had Wi-Fi at a snails pace. In 2013, Wi-Fi is sufficiently fast to share images with the home front! The cleaning staff (but this holds for all WDW property) is very friendly and truly respects your privacy. They even make your stay more magical by making you towel figures made out of the bathroom cloths. Always brings a smile to your face, whether you are an adult or a child!

Next up is the pool, which is one of the big assets of this hotel. The pool is quite big and the slide is beautifully executed. Towels are complimentary, and can even be taken with you to the water parks. You would need to pay to rent those bath towels at the water parks, but why would you? Just take some with you and drop them off in the water parks. Less hassle, less cost and more of a Disney experience! Conveniently, you can also go to the Riverside pool if you want. Riverside has one main pool, and several smaller ones spread throughout the property. You'll find a laundromat next to the pool, which is ultra-convenient. Pop in your laundry (all debit and credit cards now, no more coins!) and have a swim. This is about as pleasant as doing the laundry will ever get :).

Then we move to the main building with the lobby, shop and food court. Everything here gives you a Mardi Gras feeling: you have a Jester greeting you and holding the door open, the familiar green/purple/yellow necklaces are distributed (for free) throughout the place and the food court is beautifully decorated with actual artefacts from floats in the real Port Orleans. Reception is efficient and is usually overmanned to ensure that you are helped right away (YMMV, especially during high season). They are also very knowledgeable and will direct you to the cast members in the shop or the food court when they believe those cast members can help you out (the cast member they redirected us to always held the answer; be it for a screwdriver or a question for the refillable mugs). The shop is fairly basic, with some trinkets from Port Orleans. It stocks enough items to help you out with medical supplies, do some grocery shopping or buy that plush bear that you almost forgot to buy. Medical problems during the night do occur and I'm happy to say that they let us into the shop even after hours to grab some medication. Food in the food court is varied, and has some excellent choices such as the shrimp-o-boy, the gumbo and the beignets. Although not terribly large, they offer a decent choice and if needed you can always walk over to the bigger food court in Riverside.

Similar to other Disney hotels, there are frequent complimentary buses taking you to all Disney parks and Downtown Disney. This is a very convenient way of travelling, especially after a long day at the parks. A downside to Port Orleans is that some buses will pick up passengers from French Quarter AND from the 4 bus stations at Riverside. This might take a while and you should plan this in if you want to be in the park by opening. But honestly, you are on vacation. Don't go all commando and look at the positive side. We made a habit of coming back to the hotel and deciding the food court where we were going to eat by the bus stop order. If the first bus stop was over at Riverside we just went to that food court and enjoyed the beautiful walk to French Quarter alongside the river when going back. A hidden secret of Port Orleans is that you also have a boat service to take you to Downside Disney. The trip on the river is beautiful and the captains are usually very knowledgeable about their surroundings. Don't miss this! But do try not to take the boat to Downtown between 4-7pm, as things can get very crowded ... .

And then we have all the extras. Some paid, some free. You have movie nights, you have a camp fire with s'mores (well, just the toasted marshmallows really :)), you have pool entertainment ... and all these things are free. Looking to spend some money? Take a horse carriage ride from French Quarters to Riverside and back. Rent some fishing gear and relax by the river. Or rent a boat, and go down the river all by yourself.

And so, inevitably, just like every WDW travel, this review must come to an end. For us Port Orleans is the best hotel on Disney property, hands down. We go there to relax, to be pampered, to eat way too much and ... oh, to enjoy the wonderful Disney parks. You escape the hustle of the cheaper hotels and the extra service you get in the premium hotels doesn't justify the higher cost for us. All in all, Port Orleans is a wonderful hotel with a wonderful atmosphere and we wholeheartedly recommend you to stay there.

This was my husband's and my fifth visit to Disneyworld, On our first trip, we were just married, no children and did not stay on property. The next three visits were with our children and we always stayed at the value resorts and always were pleased with what we got for our money. This trip was just for us so we decided to upgrade to a moderate resort, While the resort itself was beautiful, felt like a real trip to the French Quarter, we were disappointed with the service and the quality of the room. We had booked through a travel agent and told her we wanted a king bed, On arrival, were got checked in and much to our surprise walked into a room with double queens, We went back to the lobby (which is quite a little walk from our room) and asked out the mix up. We were told that this was an error on the part of our travel agent (which I do not believe because I have been working with her for many trips and she always gets us a king. So we were told there were no kings available so of course, we made the best of it with the Queen. Back in the room, I found that the bathroom was NOT cleaned as well as I had become used to with Disney. Rather than make another trip to the lobby to complain, (we just wanted to get ready and get to the parks) I cleaned up the bathroom myself. After a long and tiring day at the parks we came back to the room to find that a nice basket and a case of water was left for us. I was thinking it was either an apology for the bed mix up or they were congratulating us for our fifth trip to DW. Much to my surprise, I opened the basket to see that it was not meant for us at all but another family with the same last name, who were making their first trip!! So, we took the basket (but not the case of water, because it was too heavy to carry all the way back to the lobby) to the conscierge, explained the mix up and told them there was also a case of water but we were not going to carry it that far. Ok, so hopefully, the right people received the basket. The next day, upon entering the room, we found that they had come and picked up the case of water!! Without so much as a thank you or anything for correctly their mistake and being honest. (we could have just kept it but we didn't want someone to miss out on their gifts). Well, thank you Disney for showing me how much our loyalty to your parks and resorts mean to you!!

Also, the new toilets that have been installed are so loud, I can hear them flushing on all sides of me and from above also!!

I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the parks as well, which I felt had been much better in the past, I think possibly they are slipping in that area,

This is my second time going to disney and this time, we upgraded to the port Orleans French quarter after experiencing the all star music resort. The check in was a lot faster than last time, and our room was very close to the bus stop. . Was very clean, but the beds were uncomfortable. Also, the buses got very loud at 10:30 when my triplets were trying to sleep. We never ate at the resort so I can't tell you about that, but we got the regular dining plan and reserved many dinners at the parks. My kids loved the decorations all over the place. It felt like we were in New Orleans, not Florida! The housekeeping gave my kids a disney movie at the end of our stay here and they watched that on the way home. We loved being close to downtown disney because we really wanted to see La Nuba and eat at planet Hollywood. If you want to stay at a moderate resort, definitely choose this resort. My children also found the playground very fun, but we were not that close to it. Deluxe resort next time

We almost booked at a cheaper non-Disney hotel but decided to splash out for POFQ and we're so glad we did. When you take into account things like the free parking and free transport to the parks it worked out to be more convenient and better value for us anyway. The staff were all helpful and friendly in true Disney style. Our room was clean and spacious and the whole resort is well themed.

The sister resort Riverside does have a bigger restaurant and more amenities but we would still pick French Quarter if we went again. We liked the cosier feel of French Quarter and Riverside is only a pleasant stroll down the river away if you do want to make use of anything extra they offer.

The only small negative I can think of was that the spa was really small considering the size of the resort. We were visiting at an off-peak time so it wasn't a problem for us but I can imagine at peak times it's probably very crowded!

We especially liked the free riverboat service that goes between Riverside, French Quarter and Downtown Disney.

Room Tip: We stayed in block 2 over looking the pool which was a good location both to the main lobby and rest...

My family travelled to Disney World and stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter from November 17-22. We had an amazing time! This is a fantastic moderate resort.

PROS - It is very beautiful. The lobby and the grounds are very pretty. The pool is amazing. We walked to the Port Orleans Riverside to Boatwright's restaurant on the 3 occasions and it was a lovely walk. We also took the ferry to Downtown Disney and it was lovely as well. By far, the best part of this resort is that there is only 1 BUS STOP!!! With a 2 year-old, this is huge! It was just so much more efficient than travelling around your resort going from bus stop to bus stop. Boatwright's was also a very good restaurant. We booked our reservations in advance and did not have to wait at all. The food was tasty. The people working at the resort were all very nice. Also, this resort feels small and that is a definite plus at Disney.

CONS - I had problems with my magic band for 3 days of our 6 day trip. The cast members tried to fix it. They were lovely, but the problem was never really fixed. We didn't really get any perks from this issue, other than a few extra snack credits. Our room looked out over the pool. It was a nice view but difficult for our daughter (and us) to take an afternoon nap. I wasn't overly impressed with the Food Court. We ate the Food Court at Riverside once and it was much nicer and had a better selection of food.

Overall, I would stay at Port Orleans French Quarter again in a heartbeat. I liked the ambience, everything was gorgeous and I'll say it again...1 BUS STOP!!

My family and I have stayed at this moderate resort loads of times. We like the size of the resort and amenities, it's not too big. The pool is great for all ages. The river taxi provides convenient travel to Riverside and Downtown Disney. Rooms continued to be renovated. We really made good use of the dining plan and would recommend that you add this to your package. We liked the new Disney app, magic bands are great if you are organised. Fast pass + did not work at the parks due to a technical difficulty, hotel concierge fixed this and we carried I pod/ pad for confirmation. A welcome addition is free wifi in resort and parks. Warm and friendly staff. Will definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Riverside view is lovely
