“Favorite Moderate Disney Hotel Ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013

Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter Resort is easily my favorite Disney moderate hotel ever. Love the atmosphere. It's size makes everything accessible. Rooms are comfortable and always clean. I've stayed here four times and love it every time. The food court has a lot of choices and is located close enough to each building. The pool is amazing. Love everything about this resort!

Room Tip: You can't go wrong with any of the buildings. My favorite though is bldg. 5 garden view.

Our first stay at French Quarter. The buildings and grounds are really pretty. Nice pool area with a good size pool. It was also handy having the cafe on site and close to our room...we got coffee and muffins there every morning. The rooms were nicely decorated with dark furniture, it gave it a non-hotel, homey feel. We had requested a river view room but when we got there they had us in a pool view room. We asked to change rooms and they said they didn't have any. The pool view room was noisy as to be expected and the music was on until after 11 pm. Kind of annoying for a hotel at a kids park. But overall a really nice, different hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid the pool view rooms if you like it quiet...you can hear the usual pool noises and the outdoor...

We enjoyed ourselves at French Quarter. I have always liked this hotel because it isn't as big as some of the other moderate hotels and you don't have to pay extra for a preferred room to be close to the lobby. My girls love getting the beads at the front door and at the food court.

I was a little disappointed at check in. The staff member wasn't very friendly and didn't see that we were celebrating birthdays (so no birthday buttons). Also, when I told him that for online check in, I wasn't offered an opportunity to key in a pin number, he said sarcasticly, "you don't remember?" It wasn't a big deal but the comment wasn't necessary.

The pool was nice. Thankfully, there are a few umbrellas since it was raining.
The rooms were clean as expected. I really like the double sinks and the two queen beds (not all moderates have queens). We were in Building 7 which is a less than 10 minute walk to the lobby and maybe a 10 minute walk along the river over to Riverside. Took the boat back in order for my little ones to "go on a ride".

Overall, we had a nice time and will definitely go back in the future.

We made the decision to go all out and take the entire family and significant others with us to Disney World early last December. We did our research and decided on staying at the Port Orleans French Quarter because of its character and location close to the parks. We really made the right choice. Great Cajan atmosphere, beautiful clean grounds and excellent service from all the staff. We rented a car but frequently used the resort's shuttle service because it was so fast and easy. Also made a couple runs by the boat service to Downtown Disney which was convenient and made quite regular runs. The inside rooms were simple but a good value comparably.
Great time of year to go. Not too busy usually and they had just started the Christmas events. Spectacular.
We compared many of the other Disney properties and we made the decision to come back to the same resort again when we come back. The other option would be to truly indulge ourselves and spend more for the Disney Animal Kingdom Villas. Depends on our budget at the time.

April 18-22nd, 2013 was our second stay at Port Orleans French Quarter in two years. Many visitors and guidebook editors agree the Moderate category hotels are the best value on the Disney property and over the last fifteen years, I have stayed at Disney's Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs resorts. Having checked out Port Orleans - Riverside, I am confident that the French Quarter is the best affordable option in WDW for families. The intimate size of the resort makes getting to and from the pool and food court as well as using the Disney Transportation system very easy. As others have written, the pool has great theming and is the focal point of the hotel. Animated movies are shown in the courtyard nightly. Some have complained that FQ lacks a sit-down restaurant, but unless you're part of an all-adult party, this hardly matters: the food court serves very edible "Cajun/Creole" options, and the staff are surprisingly warm and accommodating.

Oddly, we didn't get "towel animals" from our maid this time, but the rooms were always clean. The hotel grounds are pretty and meticulously maintained. Depending on your budget, I would say the river-view rooms along Bonnet Creek are worth the extra money: buildings 2 and 6 strike a nice balance between quiet nights and closeness to the central hub of the hotel. Yes, as previously noted, the toilets are fairly loud and the pillows not excellent, but otherwise it's hard to find something to complain about at this lovely resort.

Room Tip: Buildings 2 and 6 are both quiet and accessible.

We stayed in the French Quarter in mid April for four nights and really enjoyed our stay. We have been to Disney (both Florida and California) a few times, and our kids are past the stage where they need to see Mickey Mouse on everything, so we wanted a more understated Disney property and the French Quarter fit the bill.

The hotel is one of the smaller disney resorts, and that is a big plus after a long day at the parks. There is a nice peaceful feel to the whole property. The staff were super friendly and helpful. We had bought our park tickets from a non-Disney vendor, and although it looked to be a pain the Concierge had no problem adding the park tickets directly to our room keys. Everyone we dealt with had a smile on their face.

We stayed in Building 3, rooms 3313 and 3314. We had garden view rooms. Building 3 was great for us. It was far enough away from the pool to be quiet, but still close enough to the bus stop and food. Being on the top floor of the building was nice, it cuts down on the noise.

The rooms themselves are typical Disney resort rooms. Pretty much just enough room for two beds and a small table and the dresser. The bathrooms were nice. The biggest plus bathroom wise, water pressure! I hate staying in hotels where the showers are just a warm trickle on your back. Not a problem here. You can tell that the rooms have been recently refurbished as everything looks fresh and clean. One nice new addition was a mini fridge in the room. Hadn't had that the last time we stayed in Disneyworld (which was a long time ago). Nice to be able to keep some juice/pop/muffins around for snacks. Noise wise the rooms were great. There was one night where it was pretty noisy until late, you could hear people running up and down the hallways and yelling, but that is just part of vacation. We found very little noise penetration room to room.

Before we went I was a bit concerned about the buses, with the French Quarter only having one stop. It turned out to be a non-issue, most likely because we went outside of Spring Break. While we did have to wait 10 to 20 minutes a couple of times, it wasn't unusual compared to our experiences at previous hotels. We really enjoyed the river boat to Downtown Disney as a change of pace. One thing to be aware of is that the French Quarter is in the "Downtown Disney" resort area, and while close to Typhoon Lagoon is pretty far away from Magic Kingdom and Epcot, so the drive/bus rides are a bit longer. Not a big deal, but something to be aware of, especially if Magic Kingdom and Epcot are the prime focus of your vacation.

The only thing that stops me from giving the French Quarter full marks is the value proposition. Because our kids are getting a bit old to share a bed we got two rooms. Compared to a place like the Floridays Resort, you are spending double the amount for less space. However I find the benefits of staying in a Disney Resort (the Key to the World, the buses, overall atmosphere, etc) when going to Disney parks to be worth the money. Not really a complaint about the French Quarter in particular as it applies to all Disney Resorts in my opinon, but if you are looking for the best value you should probably look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Building 3, garden view rooms were nice and quiet, and still close enough to the main building while...

Dont get me wrong, the French quarter is every inch a disney property. There were happy characters and not so happy with their job characters. The good, the property is a disney property, its location and shuttle services were functional and the resort was clean both inside and outside.

The unfortunate experience was, being a guest for two nights, I was able to speak with the housekeeping staff in charge of our room and requested if its possible to have it cleaned as soon as were out (in thirty minutes) and requested some more amenities since we were 4 in the room. The amenities came in a bag and was left inside the room but the room was not cleaned or made up. I was disappointed with this issue, residence inn has far better service. but thats another review im positng.

I hope the staff didnt think that it was just a room we were sleeping for the night while we visited the parks, we were hoping for a clean room at the end of the day.

Ill still return but might not stay in a disney property anymore. i already experienced the disney magic.

Room Tip: Get the river view and close to the lobby.
