“Great Moderate Resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

Stayed at the Port Orleans 4nights during a visit to DisneyWorld with my wife, daughter and grandson. Found the Port Orleans to be a great family resort. The resort is well located with great exterior styling and friendly staff. The pool area is great for kids and well staffed with lifeguards who take their jobs seriously.

The rooms are.very adequate with comfortable beds and were very clean. Houskeeping staff was very accommodating to our every need.

Food was good but the dining area was too open and noisy. There are tables outside that offer a more serene and quieter atmosphere.

Location was great, we could get to any of the parks quickly utilizing the Disney transportation system. There are also boats running to Downtown Disney often. Takes about 15-20 minutes, a fun trip!

4th or 5th time we've stayed at Port Orleans. Nice, clean rooms. Well laid out site (all buildings around central hub) with decent access to the internal bus network. Unfortunately, it was too cold to use the pools this trip, but the kids have enjoyed that in the past. This time around the new improvements were WiFi in the rooms as well as better food at the counter serivce area (seemed to have healthier options than past experiences).

This was my 4th time staying at this resort and it is always a pleasant stay. The friends I travel with are season pass holders and only stay at this resort. The resort has its advantages being that it is the smallest Disney property. You are never far from the bus stops, food court or pool. I love the look and feel of the resort; it doesn't feel childish or have a cartoon feel to it. It seems silly to say, but it’s almost soothing and tranquil. I love that you can go for a carriage ride at night or go fishing in the lake. The nice part of it being a small resort is that there is only one bus stop, so you don’t have to worry about making multiple stops along the property. Yes some times the buses are full and you have to wait until the next one and stand, but it’s not that bothersome. The maid left towel animals every day and we even came back to some scenes done in our window. I love that you can take a boat to Downtown Disney; it’s a nice change from having to take a bus. During our stay they had a section set up where we could toast marshmallows which was a nice touch. That night they also showed Finding Nemo in the court yard, it was great being able to sit outside and watch it. We did not use the pool this visit, but have in the past. Its plenty big and I always find a chair along side it. The pool at Riverside is bigger and they have a few different ones but I have never used it. The only downside to this resort is there is only a food court for your dining choice, and the food court has limited options. It is a short walk to Riverside, or if you don't mind waiting you can take the boat. The walk itself is nice. Riverside has a full service restaurant and a much better food court. Here they have a carving station, a pasta station and a whole lot of options the French Quarter does not. If dining is going to sway where you stay, and don’t want to walk, this resort might not be the best choice. Then again some of the moderate resorts are so large you will have to walk a distance to get to the dining section so it might work out to be the same distance. The rooms were always cleaned, and are a nice size. I like how the sinks are separate from the shower so you are not tying up the bathroom when people are getting ready in the morning. We stay in building 4 its the closest to the food court, the bus stops and the lobby.Just a tip If you are using Magical Express you should pack a change of clothes and bathing suits in a carry on, as your luggage takes a few hours after you check in arrive. It’s a great place to stay, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Building 4 is the close to the lobby, food court, buses and pool

This hotel is typical of all the moderate Disney Resort hotels. The rooms in the moderate offerings are all the same except for the decor. Two double beds, bathroom sink area separated by a curtain. The tub and toilet are behind a door.
The rooms also have flat screen tv's, a dresser, and a table with a couple of chairs.
The room itself is on the small side.
Everything was clean and well maintained. The housekeeping service does a good and quick job of room cleaning. They also occasionally leave cute animals made of towels. A nice Disney touch for the kids.
Since you are at Disney to have fun at the parks and activities, you probably won't spend much time in the room anyway.
The resort grounds are pretty and well landscaped. It is near the river that has boats to Downtown Disney.
The bus service from French Quarter is probably the best benefit vs. Riverside. The French Quarter is much smaller than Riverside and has only one bus stop. The buses tend to pick up and drop off French Quarter first most of the time. This is very helpful since Riverside is so large. Otherwise you could get stuck waiting on empty buses after full Riverside buses have come by. This really is an important thing to consider.
The dining hall on the property is typical Disney counter service. A nice thing about the dining is their ability to fill special requests. I am vegan and every morning I was able to get very good vegan Mickey waffles!
We have stayed at the French Quarter before as well as Caribbean Beach resort. I would definitely go back to the French Quarter. Bottom line is it is a good value and it's smaller size makes for a nice experience.

Room Tip: First floor is preferrable, although they do have elevators. Also try to stay far from the Pool sin...

This was our first trip to Disney with our two kids. We chose to stay at the French Quarter over Riverside since it was more compact therefore easier to get around. Check in was easy, no lines even though it was the middle of March break. Our room was ready when we got there at noon so we were able to unpack, change and head to the pool. The pool was busy and it was difficult to find a lounge chair but the kids went into the pool, which was a nice size and temperature. They had a great time on the slide. The pool area was well maintained and the lifeguards were everywhere which was great! The grounds were pretty and well kept, the hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. Transportation to the parks was very efficient and we never had to wait long for a bus. We took a boat ride to Riverside one morning and also took the boat back to our hotel from downtown Disney one night, fun and convenient.
The only downside to this hotel was that you could hear toilets flushing from other rooms and I was woken in the night from it since it is quite loud.....

Nice hotel, clean, friendly staff, swimming pool great for kids (if you have time for that!)
the only boat ride is to Disney Downtown (20-25 minutes)
all other disney resorts are by bus, 20 -30 minutes rides, nice bus service, on time...

overall we enjoyed the stay, but next time I will find hotel next to Magic Kingdom where a boat ride can get you to main activities till 1 Am.
