We (two adults and a five year old) stayed at Wilderness Resort the first week of May. We got one of the Disney packages arranged through a travel agent, so we were not there on any kind of a "deal". This may have colored my thoughts because I felt that we were paying top dollar for this resort. The good: The lobby, pool, dock, grounds, etc. were very nice. You could buy a handful of food to feed the ducks by the dock. The ferry to Magic Kingdom was fantastic. We took the ferry over to Wilderness Campground to visit the petting zoo and go fishing. THe cleaning staff left various animals make out of towels, much the the delight of my son. The pool was nice although a little crowded. The hot tub was just the right temperature. The bell staff was helpful. The Cub Club did a nice job babysitting while we had one adults only dinner. We did not rent a car, but relied on Disney transportation. The bad: we had reserved a non-smoking room, but were told at check in that none was available. They switched us to a nonsmoking room the next night, but it overlooked a loading area so we were awakened at about 2:00am and 4:00 am every night by the sound of truck back up warning signals. We tried to get a different room, but were told that none were available. The Whispering Canyon was fun . . . once. Even my 5 year old thought it was a bit over the top. The food was mediocre. The service was fair. The waitstaff antics were intimidating to some of the children. I'm glad we stayed there, but for the money, I'd probably go back to Animal Kingdom or stay off grounds the next time.

We just came back from our stay at Disney's Wilderness lodge, needless to say we were very disapointed. The entire resort needs to be updated, it definetly shows it's age. There had been a flood in the room across from ours, so the smell of mildew was terrible. We asked to be changed, but the resort was booked. Our standard view room was terrible.,we had a great view of the generator. The balcony was small, dirty and dingy. The pool is way too small for this resort. About the only good thing I could say of the resort is the ferry to the Magic Kingdom, it was very convienent. I would not recommend this resort to anyone. If you're looking for deluxe resort accomadations at an affordable price go to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It's the newest deluxe resort, and it's gorgeous!

I stayed there when it first year it opened. It was a beautiful hotel with a breathtaking lobby. The large fire place with different colored rocks from the grand caynon reached the ceiling sky. Original Native American artifacts fill the areas and there is a gyser that goes off twice daily by the main pool area. The pool is large and centrally located. The room was a good size with a balcony. Our room had a view of a smaller pool and the grounds. All in all, it is ones of the tep tenth resortd in Orland. It is definatlely worth the money if you can afford it, or if you can get a special rate.

What a beautiful resort!!! I really felt like I was out west somewhere. Everyone at the resort was friendly and helpful. Upon check in, our room was upgraded because we had requested bunk beds for our six year old son. We had a spectacular view of the lake, pool and hotel grounds. Our room was kept clean every day by our wonderful housekeeper. The room did show signs of wear, but when you consider that it is a Disney resort with tons of kids in and out every day, it was acceptable.

I loved the music that played throughout the resort. The Roaring Fork, which I nicknamed "The Raging Mama," was perfect for breakfast and snacks. We did not rent a car and had no problem with transportation. We did it all...boat, bus, monorail...and so convenient.

I think this is the best resort at Disney for the $$$. We'll be back. Our son is still talking about the place three months later. He was extremely impressed with the hotel lobby and the stream that ran through it!

Great hotel. Agree with the positive comments in the other reviews. The staff was great and we enjoyed being so close to MK with small kids. Really allowed us to get the most out of the park passes. Would recommend calling the hotel directly a couple of days prior to arrival to insure they undertand your room preferences. The only downside was the bus service - was poor for a great hotel. Overall, would highly recommend.

We just returned from six nights at the Wilderness Lodge and were extremely happy. The architecture is breathtaking and fascinating. We found the staff to be helpful and friendly. Yes, the rooms are somewhat on the smaller size given the price range, but the view of pool, lake, and woods more than made up for this. Our beds had very comfortable mattresses and we slept well each night.
I think this pool is one of Disney's loveliest. I do wish there had been more lounge chairs, however, and an awning for the strong Floridian sun is definitely needed. We were satisfied with both bus and boat transportation to the theme parks. We did dine one time at the Whispering Canyons cafe; it is a rollicking boisterous time, but the food was just ordinary. We were happy that the gift shop sold some food items which could be stored in a complimentary refrigerator (ask for this; it isn't advertised). The hotel is great for kids too; my girls loved it and want to return.

We just returned for staying here April 11-16 and loved it! I used this site a great deal before we left, so here is my payback info post for others!
We have 3 young boys (8,6,2) so the theming was PERFECT for our family, and the WL did a perfect job with the theming. All the staff were helpful, friendly and eager to please. I will skip the many special Lodge details (others have covered extensively), except for a few specific things.

First, try and be a Flag family it was "magical" moment for our son.

Secondly, the rooms are somewhat small, but the balcony adds enough room so that you can get some needed alone space or send the kids out there to eat. Overall, the room condition was okay/good, about the level of a Marriott Courtyard, but the lobby and pool and grounds AWESOME, and make up for lack of luxury.

We didn't eat much at the WL, but the snack bar was convenient and not very pricey at all, plus you can take your food and eat at the nice tables right outside. The one place we did stop in for dinner one night at the lounge/bar outside Artist Point, and it was a really good idea. They have a big TV, couches and lots of tables, was kid friendly and EMPTY! the food chioces were minimal, but we the Wings were great, and the boys loved the cheese pizzas.

Also, take advantage of the food section in the back of the Lobby gift shop--their selection was excellent and all the rooms have refrigerators, so we were able to get 1/2 gallon of milk, some adult bevs and a gallon of water to use throughout the week. I was surprised that the tap water in the hotel was as bad as it was (and i am not a water snob)--sulfur city man!

The boat service to the Magic Kingdon was OUTSTANDING. We maybe waited 5 mins at the most on either end. It really made our trip! It enabled us to "pop over" most nights for a few hours, which was great because it wasn't crowded then. The ride operators were calling us to come and ride b/c they had no one on, and then let you ride as many times as you wanted! Imagine sitting on thunder Mountain Railroad 4 times straight! Also, come back during the Wishes show and you will enjoy the fireworks over the water--really beautiful!

However, as good as the boats were (and take advantage of the boat to the Contemporary to the Monorail--also very easy fast and convenient) I was really disappointed in the shuttle bus service--it was horrible! After hustling your family to get up and out to make it out of the room and go to MGM, Blizzard beach or Animal Kingdom early, it really stunk to wait between 35-45 minutes for a bus. And coming back was even worse! Forget making any early morning Magic Hours unless you plan to be at the bus stop at 7:30! By the end, I was ready to just pay for a taxi, and would have if we wanted to go back to MGM our last day.

My only last tip is if you have kids and they love to swim like mine, plan to have a day of just hotel and swim time. I didn't anticipate how big of a draw this would be (we have a great pool at home...and we were at Disney World!) and should have. It is a wonderful pool and slide! We ended up not using our last Park Hopper day because they really just wanted to hang out and swim. Enjoy!
