“Location & Pool Win”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2013

Location and pool make this a new top resort property for us (1-2x/yr @WDW w 2 kids). Lobby and common areas are smaller and noisier than other on property same quality resorts, but walking distance to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios are big draw. Pool seems enormous and fun for kids with mini "lazy river" and lots of coves and areas to explore (also a sand bottom which is unique!) Most attentive lifeguards we've seen, too. Connection to Yacht Club doubles options for quick snacks and market-type shops. Brand new bar by pool and boardwalk (open to non hotel guests) called Hurricane Hannah's is a FAB place for afternoon waterside drink--great vibe. Never stayed on Boardwalk and fun option to walk around and ride bikes. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Avoid getting a hospitality suite (2nd floor overlooking lobby)! Very spacious room with all amenit...

Review from the perspective of a family of 3--mom, dad, son. Here is the good, the bad, and the ugly. First, the good -- and it is mostly good. The resort is spacious and airy. The Stormalong Bay pool is outstanding, and for only guests of the Beach Club and the adjoining Yacht Club Resorts. There are water slides, and a wrap around pool that is very kid friendly, staffed with uber-professional lifeguards. You are just steps away from Disney's Boardwalk area and from Epcot (you enter via the world showcase part of Epcot). The room was nice, and every day there was a new towel-creature which our 6-year-old loved. Our room overlooked one of the hotel pools (not one of the Stormalong pools, but a hotel pool located on the end of the complex. We could see a portion of the fireworks (not a full view) that were featured at Epcot every night at 9:00 PM.

There really wasn't much of "bad." We sprang for the "Club Level" package -- on the 5th floor, there are concierge services, newspapers, and snacks almost all day -- continental breakfast with coffee, juice, etc., snacks mid-day, wine and beer and appetizers early evening, and desserts from 7-10 at night, with some liquors. We were located a floor below, so we had to venture across the hotel to the elevator bank (quite a trek) every time we wanted to take advantage of the club level options. It was a bit annoying, but not really bad. We had dinner one night at the Yachtsman Steakhouse because it had great reviews, but we found the food to be poor to mediocre--the only poor meal during our stay. My advice is to skip this restaurant and save yourself a bundle.

The only "ugly" wasn't really the resort's fault, but they could implement some sort of intervention. On a Friday night, a group of adults and their children decided to swim in pool outside our room at 11:30 PM. The kids were involved in a very loud game of "Marco Polo" which woke up my son and he couldn't get back to sleep. I couldn't find any restrictions on this pool use, so I couldn't complain--but really, Marco Polo at 11:30 PM? The parents clearly didn't care about anyone but themselves.

Would I go back to the Beach Club? Probably. But we might also try the adjacent Yacht Club Resort, which might attract people who are less likely to let their kids run wild at 11:30 PM. But who knows, any hotel can have a few bad apples.

We stayed in this resort for spring break and could not have been happier. The two big bonuses are the location to Epcot and pool area. It is walking distance to the back entrance of Epcot, which is never crowded. You can also walk to Hollywood Studios or take a boat. Transportation is everything in Disney resorts and you pay more for being able to use monorails, boats and being able to walk versus taking a bus... but being closer makes the whole trip much more enjoyable. Now my 8 year old does get tired making the Epcot to Beach Club walk, so we sit and take a couple of breaks to rest his legs....especially after coming in from Epcot. After the fireworks show at Epcot we quickly scoot out of the back gate and have a very easy exit back to our resort.

If you stay in the Beach or Yacht Club you can use all 3 pools. The Beach Club side has the big slide and "whirlpool". The middle is the lazy river. The Yacht Club side has the sandy area, where there is a 0 entry and has lots of toddlers playing in the "sand". Not real sand but something Disney created that does not stick or get dragged back into their resorts!

We ate in the Cape May restaurant, which was a giant buffet that has great food and a great big price tag! The quick service counter, located in their gift shop, was faster and cheaper too. Seating was rather limited, prepare to eat in the Solarium, which is more like a living room or fight for one of the few tables outside.

All aspects of this resort looked very clean and pleasing, as all Disney properties we have experienced in the past have been. Yes, there is wallpaper everywhere, but it all looked in good condition.

Be sure you use the pools everyday and visit Epcot if you stay here or your hard earned money should go elsewhere!

Room Tip: To help with the price, go in the summer, which is one of the "value seasons" and you can...

review based on family of 6. If not a family dont read. Dont read if your stuck or enjoy the disney package trips in the past.....we had to try this hotel based on photos...wont ever go back.

Cons:
1. lame cable, only disney related and a few others
2. mattress old
3. pool: keeping track of the kids is impossible. Not contained, my kid almost ended up in adjoining hotel. We booked for the pool. Nothing great
4. typical disney hotel designed to handle the masses
5. food is just grease and mass produced
6. lifeguards every 10ft with rules

pros:
1. walk to boardwalk
2. has a cape cod feel not tropical feel (could be a negative)
3. boat to park
4. kids had fun in one part of the pool ( had a circular water motion area near slide , so kids go round and round in circles)

tip: If you rent a car, stay off disney at Harbor Lakes Marriot...the best for a family..rooms flow with kitchens. its always jammed for a reason...

Our family of seven (mom, dad and children aged 9,8,7,4 and 4) stayed in a two bedroom villa at the Beach Club resort for 12 nights in February 2013. Our check-in went smoothly and our room was very clean and in good repair. We had requested a top floor villa with Epcot views and this is what they gave us. What we didn't realize when we requested this view was that we would also have a view of the road (and the noise from the road) that is between the back side of Beach Club and Epcot. The trees are also fairly well grown in, so we were only able to see the big ball at Epcot and the nightly fireworks. We typically use our balconies, but we really didn't at Beach Club because of the view/noise from the road.

One of our children celebrated her birthday while we were on vacation. The hotel delivered a platter with a white chocolate Mickey Mouse, chocolate covered strawberries and dark chocolate decorations as a surprise for her. They also left a message for her on her birthday with Mickey and Minnie singing happy birthday to her. It is these extra touches that truly make any Disney vacation wonderful.

The location is wonderful. There is a shortcut from the villas that brings you to a one minute walk to the back entrance of Epcot. You are also on the boardwalk, where you can find good food, entertainment, the community hall at the Boardwalk Hotel (which we used frequently) and mini-golf, all within a short walking distance. The grounds of the Beach Club resort are very well maintained. The only reason why we gave the hotel 4 instead of 5 stars is the pool. I stayed at the Yacht club years ago, without children, and thought that the Yacht/Beach Club pool was amazing. However, with 5 young children in tow, we found it very difficult to keep an eye on all of our children in this very large pool area. We literally had to pick up and move to an entirely different area of the pool everytime the children decided they wanted to try a different activity (sand bar to lazy river to whirlpool to water slide). We are probably the only people to complain about the amazing water park that Disney has created at the Beach Club, however, we found as parents that it was much less relaxing for us because we had a difficult time making sure all of our children were safe.

Room Tip: Request top floor for views and less noise

Let me start by saying that I've stayed at many WDW resorts in the last few years. The Beach Club is not worth the hefty price tag. Mildew and cracked tile in the bathrooms, worn carpeting, uncomfortable couch/daybed, and a ripped shower curtain are just a few examples of how dull and worn our room was. (We stayed in 1540.) The pool was crowded and we never found more than one open chair.... not good for a family of 5. While the kids loved the sand bottomed pool, whirlpool, and water slide, we were disappointed that you actually have to rent an inner tube if you want to use the lazy river. The Marketplace had a nice selection of foods and you can't beat how close the resort is to Epcot. I didn't feel that the staff was overly friendly and housekeeping was sub-par, often forgetting to leave a floor mat or hand towels. Buses were crowded and did not run on a regular schedule. For the money, I would suggest Animal Kingdom Lodge or our personal favorite, The Polynesian.

Wow! This hotel surpassed all my expectations. The location is top notch if you want entertainment and parks within walking distance. It is so convenient to the Boardwalk and Epcot especially, which, in addition to the resort itself give you almost any amenity you could ask for in a vacation of this sort. I stayed here over the spring break period and was pleasantly surprised at the low noise level at night even though there were people in the adjoining rooms. The garden view room I had was great for watching illuminations at night from the balcony. The room was what you would expect: very clean, moderately roomy, and themed consistently and tastefully. The staff is very accommodating and helpful. The outer styling and grounds of the resort is very well done with a gorgeous exterior facade, inviting pool, and attractive landscaping. I have no complaints apart from a small section of peeling wallpaper by the shower. I did not notice any overly stained hallway carpets that others had as they looked well kept to me.
