“Comfortable elegance at a discount vs. a full service resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2011

Restructured condo sales from pre-2008 economy... now a limited "resort" hotel. Stay as high up as available for great all kitchen equipped balcony views. Take advantage of individual foyer entrance to each pair of split entry LUXURIOUS rooms with sumptious beds and either a full kichen with huge bath including full tile with glass door shower or the smaller room with wet bar and typical bath. Excellent CONVENIENT LOCATION (best if driving). For 2 experienced male traveles over 50, we chose the seperate rooms within a common entrance at rates below lesser accomodations. To be fair, when we returned days later for another stay, we swapped the type room and chose the other tower for a view of Universal Studios instead of that of the pool. VALUE for room unmatched, yet as a "hotel" it is more of a motel experience. Expect to be impressed!

Point Orlando Resort offers family suite, or villa-style, accommodations. It is actually a vacation ownership property. However, like almost all vacation ownership properties in Orlando, the rooms can be rented by the night.

The Point was built in 2008, so it is very new compared to most of the hotels in the area. It features a south American motif. You can sense a high level of detail in the decor, and in general there is a subtle sophistication that permeates the property.

This hotel is the last one in my list of Universal Partner hotels within walking distance of resort. I have included it because it is the closest villa-style hotel to the parks. It is also by far the most upscale partner hotel within walking distance. Now, it'll be a good 25+ minute walk from here over to Universal. But it is a very simple walk--you just head straight down Universal Blvd--and I think it is surprisingly enjoyable.

Now this hotel certainly has some downsides. Given the nature of its larger accommodations and upscale feel, the nightly rate is going to be higher than most of the hotels in the area. In addition to this, because the property is so new, it definitely has a not-quite-finished look and feel to it. In fact, last time I visited (about two months ago), their on-site restaurant still wasn't opened. The other major downside to Point Orlando is that every bed in every room is a king--no double doubles or double queens. There are plenty of sofabeds to be found, but it would sure have been nice to be able to book a 2-bedroom suite with a king in the master and two doubles in the second bedroom.

Nonetheless, if you are looking for a bit of elegance, a bit of peace and quite (The Point is somewhat removed from International Drive), yet you want to be able to walk to Universal if you have to, this is a fine selection. The suite was beautiful and included a full working kitchen with washer and dryer, a huge bathroom with a tub and shower and a bedroom. The customer service was wonderful and they upgraded our room for free( we just had to ask at check-in). The room cost us less than $100/ night.

Our stay was only 4 nights but would be sure to go back again. The staff was absolutly wonderful, from the desk, to housekeeping, lounge etc. Not a complaint one.
