“Good hotel”
Reviewed November 28, 2009

Back after a week's stay at the Point Orlando Resort in a 1 bedroom suite. Lacks the upscale resort feel, but scores high in other areas. Located on a street where traffic noise is minimal. Fully equipped kitchen. We shopped at Whole Foods and made dinner and carried lunch with us to the parks. Free high speed internet. Good sized bathroom, washer dryer. Comfortable king size bed. Good tv. Courteous hotel staff. Decent sized pool. Was never crowded. Not too far from the theme parks. We had rented a car and were able to get to all the disney parks in about 15 - 25 mins. I wonder what a hilton or marriott with all these facilities cost in peak season?

This was our first time at Point Orlando Resort and I have to say we weren't disappointed. We've tried many hotels in and around the International Drive area and this has to be one of the best we've stayed in so far. Unlike conventional hotels, the Point offers suites (in singles and doubles), each coming fully equipped with kitchens, laundry facilities and living spaces - plus they all have balconies! The only drawback is the Management Fee which is added on departure (no matter with whom you book your stay) and roughly equates to $10+tax per night. The hotel stress that this fee pays for housekeeping et cetera - but it's the only hotel in Orlando that does this. So if you don't mind the extra levy but want a great hotel with plenty of in-room facilities then this hotel is right up your street. Housekeeping itself is a bug-bear since you pay extra for it - considering they come and go when they please (one day we didn't even get a visit!) and only smooth down the beds when they do. We expected a better service for the charge. Some balcony furniture wouldn't go amiss either. Overall, our impressions were of a clean hotel with plenty of parking, friendly staff trying their best under what seems like difficult new management protocols, and good quality rooms (apart from the slightly dated TVs).

The hotel is a little off the beaten track but within walking distance of Wet & Wild and the Midway part of International Drive. The Pirates Dinner show venue is just across the road. Good access to Universal (about a mile up the road). A nice and quiet location with good views from all rooms. Ideal for families wanting the facilities of a villa but the conveniences of a hotel and a good location. Great pool and poolside area.

Some aircon vents blow really hard, directly at the bed areas - so a little adjustment is recommended. Ceiling fans help when it's really muggy. Pillows are a little hard, but the mattresses were comfortable enough. Soundproofing seemed good from all rooms. Higher quality suites than Homewood and Hawthorn, but without the free continental breakfast.

Recommended for couples and familes - especially those holidaying with other couples (since the double suites are fully separated and fully self-contained) - so it's like being in a villa only several floors up!

Free Internet in all rooms.

I can't think of one negative thing to say about this hotel. From the minute we arrived until the minute we left our whole experience was excellent.

Reception is small but immaculate and the staff very helpful. Arrived 2.00 pm and were able to check in immediately. Stayed in one bedroom apartment no. 701S with a pool view. Very well equiped kitchen with large fridge/freezer, full size cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer, toaster, blender, coffee maker and a full compliment of tableware, pans, untensils etc. Living area with leather settee/bed, dining table and four chairs and flat screen TV and doors out onto the balcony. Bedroom also had a TV and a very large comfortable bed. The bathroom was huge with a storage cupboard, jaccuzi bath, large shower cubicle, vanity unit and a separate toilet. Towels changed daily, bedding twice weekly. Dishwashing power, soap powder, washing up liquid, paper towels, tea towels and coffee supplied daily. If you needed more you only had to ask and it was delivered within 10 minutes. Rooms are very quite and we didn't hear any noise from the room next door or the corridor.

The pool area was lovely with plenty of loungers and a hot tub. The pool was a lovely temperature and very clean and never busy. There is no bar area at the pool so you are able to take your own drinks/snacks. It was nice to sit on an evening with a glass of wine whist Little Puddle played in the pool with the other children.

The hotel offers a shuttle to the parks which ran at 7.30-10.30 to Disney and 9.00 to Universal and Seaworld. It's a 10 minute walk to Wet n Wild. There is a trolly stop right outside the hotel and it's a 10 minute walk to I-drive.

All in all this hotel is the best we have stayed in in Orlando and we are already planning on staying here again next year.

Stayed at the Point Resort after booking with Expedia. Stayed for 3 nights as we were travelling around south Florida and Orlando was our 3rd stop to experience universal studios. The hotel was in a great location in my opinion. We were driving but didn't need to use the car during the day as there was a shuttle service provided free by the hotel to get to Universal Studios. We didn't even use this bus on the way back as it was a pleasant 15-20 minute walk back. As for the hotel room - Great value for money. We booked a studio but was checked into a one bedroom apartment as a free upgrade, which contained a full kitchen with more than the necessary amenities including a dish washer, washer and drier and a huge fridge/freezer. The building looks brand new and the apartment was in the say state. The bathroom was excellent having a separate shower and bath with jets. The Bed was hugh, the air con was nice a cool as well as being quiet when operational and the balcony view was of the hotels pool and hot tub. I recommend the use of this hot tub, it was fab. It was lovely a hot and a night time dip was the norm for us as a chill out.
OVERAL. Check-in was nice and smooth, Check-out was nice and smooth without any hidden costs added to our bill. The staff were very friendly and helpful and our experience was great. If we go back to Orlando. The Point will be the first hotel to enquire about.

Stayed here sept into oct for 2 weeks. Really lovely rooms, and as its a relatively new resort, everything was in excellent condition. We stayed in a 1 bedroom exec, the bed was like a super kingsize, and it was heavenly!! Bathroom was lovely and modern, as was the rest of the apt. Flat screen tv in living area, and a tv in the bedroom also. Free internet which was great (if you have a laptop..take it with you, so handy). All you will need is in the apt..washer/dryer, dishwasher, utensils, cooker, microwave, large fridge etc. Great having a balcony, as a lot of Orlando hotels do not have them..we could even see the disney fireworks in the distance from our 7th floor room. Maids in every day, but tended to only change the towels and make the bed. They told us they only change the bedlinen if you request it in advance! Not much happening downstairs..saw a little bar in the lobby, but it didn't seem to be open much (maybe as it was not peak season). Pool was great! Plenty of beds and never packed! My husband used the gym, which was small but adequate. He was disappointed though that they had no tv in there. We hired a car, but it was still within a 10 walk to I-Drive. All in all, we would definitely recommend this resort to anybody. Just remember that they charge a resort fee on departure, which is almost $10 per day. ;-)

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment. It gave our daughter independence and privacy. Also free wi-fi for her laptop to keep in touch with home! Close enough for her to walk to I Drive for shops. Close enough to walk to Wet n Wild. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Beds very comfy. Would stay there again.
