“We really loved this hotel.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2011

We have stayed at many (note: almost alI) Disney hotels and this has become one of our favorite hotels. The ambience and setting are unique and beautiful. We have stayed at Jambo house many times, and feared we would feel like this was not as great but we wound up liking it much better. The service was fantastic, from the cast members to the transportation. The pool area was intimate, but the play area for the children was the best of all the Disney properties.

The only negatives were the lack of a counter service in the actual building (without walking or taking the shuttle to Jambo House- which they do offer frequently and the walk is less then 10 mins) and the fact that the hallways could be long for some. I would rather walk a long indoor air-conditioned corridor then walk the outdoor building configurations of some of their other hotels in the heat and rain to get to my room.

All and all this is a unique and intimate resort. You are not in the thick of it like at the Contemporary for instance, but that is what is so magical about it. If you are looking for a vacation where you can enjoy the parks, but yet have some down time and a little escape from all of the craziness then this is for you. Taking an afternoon break from the park, relaxing at the pool and then enjoying a cup of coffee or glass of wine from your balcony overlooking giraffe and zebra is pretty amazing!

All of the reviews talking about the animals, nice rooms, cool furnishings, etc are correct. It's first class. If you're into animals, you'll be delighted to have them outside your balcony every day. Bring binoculars.

The downsides just to be aware of before going. First, it is a timeshare property so there are signs in the rooms talking about not getting daily room cleaning. I freaked out when I saw that, but rest assured, if you're simply a hotel guest and not an unfortunate "owner" you'll get daily top notch room service like any other hotel. Never understood why you get a less than experience if you buy...but that's not my concern. The resort is very spread out so you may walk a long ways to get to your car, the lobby or resort bus. No big deal unless it is to you. There is only 1 restaurant and it only serves an eclectic African/indian/middleastern style food. No kids menu. Now the food was absolutely outstanding, but sometimes you just need chicken nuggets for the kids. You can't get them and you may get tired of that very specialized food. Just be aware. Our room had a full kitchen so we just did frozen pizza or something like that on nights where the kids couldn't eat another chicken curry dish.

Other than that, the place is great and very special. Recommended.

Resort awesome, people awesome, Sanaa awesome. Love love love the Kidani Village as well as the Lodge. This was our 2nd stay @ the Village (will not be our last) Wonderful place to take your family :-) Only reason not excellent is the walk from the elevator to our room.. We timed it 3 times, at a fast walk no less than 4 1/2 minutes, hard on my Mother in law, and after an entire day at the park. But, still love it!!!

Where do I start? This place was amazing from the hospitality to the room to the animals out our window! We took the Disney transportation from the airport and didn't have to deal with our luggage until we got to our room....when we arrived, it was too early to get into our room (which we were ok with) so they put our personal stuff back behind the bell hop desk and we wre on our way to the park. The personnel was fantastic....always a Good Morning or Good Evening or Is there anything I can do for you! I would recommend this resort to anyone! The African theme was so relaxing! We had a 2 bedroom suite and the master bath was phenominal with a beautiful painting of the Lion King over the jacuzzi bathtub! The room was very clean! I would recommend this place to everyone....plan on coming back!

My husband and I stayed at Kidani Village in early June for 7 days and we loved it! Our room overlooked the savanna and we were able to see all sorts of exotic animals right from our terrace, including giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, eland, ostrich, gazelles, cranes and storks. The villa provided a wildlife field guide which allowed us to observe and identify the African wildlife, checking off boxes after we identified each species. It was fun as well as educational. If you have kids, they will love it. The grounds are clean and well maintained as well as virtually insect-free.
We had a clean, comfortable one-bedroom unit on the 4th floor which included full kitchen, dining area and living room. In addition to the master bathroom there was a full bath at the front of the unit as well as a pull-out sofa. Upon arrival, we noticed that there were some amenities missing from the master bathroom but a call to housekeeping produced a quick and courteous response. The front desk staff was very courteous and friendly but not always knowledgeable of the services provided for Disney. The young lady at the front desk did not know whether the busses to Epcot run early to accommodate guests who are going to breakfast before the park opens. She advised us to take a taxi. A nearby guest overheard the conversation and told us that the busses do run early to accommodate early park-goers. The young lady then called the bus company to confirm this for us. We were impressed with the concierge services – the woman behind the desk was very patient and went out of her way to find us a reservation to one of the restaurants that was difficult to reserve.
We had the benefit of a nice quiet room away from the crowds and noise. However, the biggest drawback we experienced was the distance from our room to the lobby. It had to be at least a quarter of a mile! Since I am a walker I didn’t mind so much, but I would advise requesting a room closer to the lobby if you stay there. For one thing, we were far from the quick service store so it was a trek to refill our refillable mugs. In addition, tired after spending a full day at Disney, the hallway seemed interminable as we walked back to our room at night. In addition, the bus service to and from the Disney parks could have been more frequent, especially due to the large crowds returning to the villas after park closing.
Finally, I would highly recommend their fabulous African restaurant, Jikos. If you like African food or have never tried it and would like to experiment (like me), you won’t regret it. If you don’t want anything too spicy, order the filet mignon. It was superb!

Room Tip: Savanna view as close as possible to lobby

We just got back from a 10 night/9 day stay at Disney's Animal Kindgom at Kidani Village. My MIL, who is a DVC member had booked a 2 bedroom/Savannah view villa 9 months ago, with no problems!! We all go to Dinseyworld every other year and this was our first time to stay at the Animal Kingdome Lodge and we were all really excited!!! We arrived around 9:30am since our checkin time was 10:00 am on a Sunday. It was wonderful when we first walked in. The views of the savannah were wonderful!!!! It was fun getting to see the animals outside. However, when we arrived, our room was nowhere near ready and we kept getting the runaraound on when it would be...kept getting different excuses. Thought that was odd!!!! Our bags were with the bell hop pending on a room number so they could be dropped off there. We all wasted the WHOLE day waiting and waiting on our room!!! While we were waiting on this, we were also getting our disney tickets/dining plan/cards all set up, but there kept being lots of problems with that. We all had to get 3 different cards made bc the other ones wouldn't work. It was very frustrating, especially for my MIL bc she was paying for the whole trip!!!! She spent a lot of money in the past buying LOTS of DVC points to be used so definitely was disappointed with the service.

Finally our rooms were ready at 5:00pm!!! Not knowing what a pain it was going to be, we made the LONG TRIP to find our room!!!! The room was very nice and very roomy. We had requested a low Savannah room, but somehow got stuck at the top floor at the VERY END OF THE HOTEL, room # 7976, seriously the VERY END!!!!! It was sooo out of the way from elevators, the lobby, the ice machine!!! It litterally took us 20 to 30 mins to come and go every day!!! It was REDICULOUS! and very tiring, especially having to carry sleeping 5 year olds back to the room after a tiring day!!! It was a nice view to look at the Savannah below, but we had requested to be down closer :( We also never had maid service and had to request some fresh clean towels after day 4!!

Also, I think Jambo house has way more to offer than Kidani. Jambo house is right in the middle of everything. It has more eating places, it has a way bigger lobby/sitting area/ and the pool is bigger. The Kidani pool has more fun slides and stuff, but Jambo's pool is way bigger, so I would totally recommend Jambo!!!!

We used the bus transportation to and from the parks. There would be some nights where we had to wait 45 min to 1 hour for their bus to get us!!! Not excactly the kind of service you would've expected!!!

Don't get me wrong, it's still a wonderful resort, it's just too spread out and not convienent to anything!!!!

Room Tip: Get a room close to elevator and middle of hotel!

The Animal Kingdome Lodge is okay if you do NOT plan to visit the Walt Disney World Resort Parks. The bus transportation to and from this location is terrible. It often took us over an hour to get to the Magic Kingdom. In fact, to reach our dining reservations one night at the Grand Floridian it took 1 hour 45 minutes in travel time. We spent a great deal of our time on this trip "waiting." That said, here's more about the resort itself. The Kidani Village facilities are okay, the pools, especially the kids pool area is very nice. The other facilities are rather plain, especially for a "deluxe" accomodation at a premium price. The onsite restaurant was "fair" at best. The food quality and service were unremarkable. Upon our arrival to the hotel we were put into a Savanah Room that seemed to me a mile away (litterally, it seemed like we walked a mile to get to our room). When we got to the room our keys did not work. After figuring that out (another mile walk back to the front desk and back again), we found that our room had not been fully cleaned. There was still trash in the room and old grocery items from a previous guest (indlucing some emails that had the guests credit card information on it...good thing we're honest). I could not believe this given Disney's reputation for quality and service. The next day we asked to be moved closer to the front lobby, which they accomodated. Guess what? We got to the new room and it had not been fully cleaned! I was floored. Either this resort has some serious flaws, or Disney's quality in general has lapsed since our previous visits. It was neat to see the animals outside of your room, but that novelty wore off after a couple days. It was definately not worth the premium price. It was also extremely inconvenient to have to walk/shuttle over to the main Lodge for most services.

Room Tip: Request a room near the main lobby, unless driving
