We stayed in the Victorian Cottage. It was beautiful. King size bed, fully equipped..like home from home..It was very clean. and beautifully maintained...I enjoyed all the old pics and objeda that was around...It felt like I was in someones home...very cozy.
The best thing of all for a small $5.00 charge..(not charge on all packages by the way).....Breakfast in the Main House...OMG...Good hot and cold selection..and wow..!! those home mead Muffins of Nans (owner) Deeeeelish...I normally don't eat muffins, but of these I had 2..:)
We got to go Kayaking..also included in the package..and kayaks provided...we were taken to Blue Springs state park by Gerald (owner), we got to spend time at the park on a break form the water...kayaked back to drop off point (which is maybe 5 mins form B&B) called for pick up...how awesome is that..!!!!
Lots of places in town to eat within 10-15 mins drive.
Gerald and Nan should be very proud of themsleves for this place...
I loved this place...I would reccomend it to anybody and everybody..

Prepaid $117.99 for first day. Showed up exactly at check in and was turned away after owner offered me a bathroom to change in

Go some place else where they honor confirmed reservations.

I talked with the owner who refused to call and find another room for us. :

This guest failed to mention that his reservation was made with Priceline.com and somehow was processed even though my online database had no rooms available. Priceline also did not provide any contact information for the reservation. The only option I had to prevent this inconvenience to the customer was to get with my online booking contact and ask them to cancel the reservation and inform the customer, which I did. Unfortunately, they did not do it properly, even though they had two days to handle it.

This area of Florida is not known for having a lot of nice B & B's, but we found this one to be very good. It's located on a quiet street a block or so off the main drag in Orange City, and is only a five minute drive from Blue Springs State Park, noted for its manatee population and river cruises. It's an early 20th century home with furnishings generally from that period. In addition to the rooms in the main house, there are several cottages on site. We spent one night in the Rose Room in the main house, a large room with a king bed and large bathroom with a very good shower, as well as a whirlpool tub (which we didn't use). The room was very nice and had lots of interesting period knick knacks. The only knock was that the TV is pretty small. For the price (especially with AAA discount), it was a real bargain. There's plenty of on-site parking.

As long term B & B travelers, we understand that a good stay is most often based on the concern for quality by the innkeepers, and here they do an excellent job. We got a good tour and history of the house. Our room and the common rooms were well equippped, and there were nice touches like free soft drinks, etc. Everything was done in a positive manner. The breakfast was also well done, with good courses (but not an overload like some B & B's do). We were there on a Sunday night which cut down the options for fine dining, but apparently there are a few eclectic places up the road 10 minutes or so in Deland. Otherwise, there are a myriad of chain places within a short drive. Overall, a pleasant stay in a B & B run professionally by a friendly couple.

LOGISTICS: Off the main north-south route (17/92). Going north turn right onto E. French Street -- halfway down the block on the left. It's in a residential area. The main house while it has rooms may be too small. Make sure to look at their web site and take the tours of the cottages. We opted for the Railroad one because it had two twins in main room and a queen in the bedroom. Paid $155. The cottage can accommodate six if you use the pull out couch.

Room: Comfortable and exactly what we wanted. We only stayed overnight, but it's clearly a place to stay for a couple of days. A fully stocked kitchen, washer and dryer, milk, juice, cereals and snacks in the room. FreeWiFi acess and computer in the room.
Front porch and plenty of walkabout space outside. I would think a great feature if you are traveling with kids. We did not eat breakfast in the main room ($5/person extra) but the menu options were a good value. It's main drawback is that the bathroom access is thru the bedroom. I think all the cottages seem to have this feature. Just so you know.

Cottages are in the back of the property. Shaded. Ceiling fans used. Too cool for AC, but wanted the air moving.

NEARBY: The Big Springs Park. in January. $6 car fee. Easy access to see the manatees wintering. We saw about 25 of them in the cove. Park has walkways and piers that go out over the water. We ate breakfast in the Deland. Based on our research, your better value was back at the Alling House, but we were meeting others.

Room Tip: Look at the online tours of the rooms. Note the bathroom locations. A friend who stayed in the main...

My family booked the Alling House's Frontier Cottage for 2 nights while exploring Blue Springs. The property is exceptional! The cottage had everything (truly) you could need for a night or a month. Although we could have stayed in the cabin, we chose to have breakfast in the main house each day. We enjoyed the spectacular effort that Nan and Gerald put into every aspect of the house and cabins. There are barbecues and fire pits and ball games, and cards and videos in each unit. Each cabin is decorated very specifically - our cabin was filled with relics from old frontier days and our 8-yr-old son loved looking at all the items! We'll be back.

Room Tip: Look at the options on their website to choose what you like! Each is very different!

There is a lot to say about this magnificient mansion but I wouldn't know where to begin and definitely not when to end.

Rather, my comments should be directed toward the gracious helpfulness of the hosts, Nan and Gerald, who went out of their way to make my stay comfortable. A lonely tourist without a car cannot do much on his own but Gerald and Nan were always ready to help on short, in fact in no notice at all. I will try to come again to Alling House even though my home - Belgium - is on the other side of the Pond.
