Took the advice of a friend and drove out to see this! Pretty drive from St. Petersburg. This castle is located in the middle of no where among orange groves. We enjoyed lunch outside -be ware-they don't take credit cards! Food was excellent. We were amazed that people were allowed to have their dogs with them. Not too sure I liked that! We enjoyed the tour -wish we could have spent more time in the rooms enjoying the unique art. Our tour guide was great and we enjoyed his humor.

Don't expect Buckingham Palace. Designed and built by a vivid imagination. The fee to get into the gallery will give you an insight into Howard's train of thought....quirky. Six of us enjoyed the afternoon including talking with Howard in his workshop and lunch. Out of the way but worth the trip just for fun.

An off-beat unique attraction. Good restaurant and good fun for those who don't take themselves too seriously. Difficult to find due to old signs on roads but worth the ride. He is the King of Recycled Items made into Art.

If you appreciate whimsy, enjoy seeing the creations of an eccentric and talented person, and appreciate cheesy humor, you must visit this place.

The experience consists of a guided walking tour through the artist's house. There is also a short nature trail, which is optional and can be enjoyed at your own pace.

The tour guides walk you through in smallish groups. They tell you about most, but not all, of the pieces on display, and the puns and cheesy humor flow freely. Everything you see is quite unique. Even though a lot of it is imbued with humor and whimsy, it's obvious that it takes some serious talent to make most of this stuff. You'll see beautiful stained glass windows, sculptures/figures made from repurposed parts, two-dimensional wood montages, and more.

After the tour, you're free to walk the nature trail, roam the grounds to see what's outside (some additional whimsical items), dine in the restaurant, and browse the gift shop. The gift shop just has mass-produced items you would find in other gift shops, but in the castle entrance where you buy your ticket you can buy items the artist has created.

Pros: Very, very unique and creative place. Cheery, fun atmosphere. Pretty good food in the restaurant. Inside and outside dining areas. Restaurant prices are fair for the portion sizes. Photography is allowed during the tour. You can meet and talk with the artist, Howard Solomon.

Cons: Tour guide speaks quickly and rushes a bit, leaving you unable to get a good look at all the neat items, some of which can only be fully appreciated at close range and by seeing all the detail. You cannot go through the house except by guided tour, so there's no way to go at your own pace to ensure you get to see everything or linger over the items you really like. The food is a smidge too salty. The key lime dessert is awesome, but the walnut pie isn't quite worth the price, as it's just okay.

Despite these cons, I'd recommend visiting this place. For ten dollars you get a 30-40 minute tour of one of the most unusual attractions in this area, and you can get a pretty good meal before you hit the road. If they'd give you a little more time in the house, I'd give it a higher rating.

It's amazing what one man can do. Hats off to Solomon for bringing smiles to people with his neat creations!
