“Good food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2013 via mobile

When we first walked in I was a little iffy on staying. It's not the nicest place but not terrible. We had oysters, clams and shrimp. The food and service was good. I don't know what else is comparable in the area because we just stopped in Ocala for the night but I would go back.

“Devious”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2013

Bought s groupon and went with friends. Order 1/2 bucket of raw oysters. They were presented to table and the oysters were covered in ice? That's right on top! Tasted and they were so bland. We called waitress to send back and she sent owner over. He proceeded to tell us that they rinse they're oysters first because they're customers don't like "sand". He offered to send out fresh, not rinsed Oysters. These were much better. I feel the first were prepped to be steamed and they thought we wouldn't know the difference. Sorry i'm 55 yrs old and have eaten raw oysters since age 10. Wouldn't trust them with anything else.

“Great oysters in an "old Florida atmosphere".”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

From its rather garish exterior you might expect this place to be a dive with questionable cuisine. The outside deck and inside booths and bar would fit best on a gulf coast beach - laid back, comfy, and super casual with absolutely no pretenses implied. But the taps contain a variety of quality quaffs and the oysters are big and delicious. But, don't stop there. The menu is large, varied and inventive, with great entrees and home battered onion rings to boot! Our waiter was down home friendly, efficient and attentive. Being transplants from Maryland, we're not easily impressed by the local independent seafood restaurants (preferring the Bone Fish Grill chain in most cases), but when we're ready to let our hair down and rest our wallets, Murphy's Oyster Bar is our secret get-a-way. What a find!!

“The best onion rings”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

First time here, and had the oyster sandwich which was ok, but the onion rings, obviously hand made, were the best ever, and a huge portion. My partner had the clam strips, fish, coleslaw, garlic toast special...I tasted his fish which was also great...however the coleslaw was nasty. Next time, I'd order just the fish with onion rings. Definitely worth one more visit. Lunch for 2 with tip came to about $25. Oh, and the service was great, but it took longer than expected to get my food cooked, perhaps because they had to dip/bread/fry the rings and fish to order??
