Some hotels are relaxing from the moment you arrive while others set your teeth on edge. I often wonder if this is more to do with your own state of mind on arrival with the hotel itself. Whatever the reason, the Red Roof Inn at Ocala was exactly what I wanted for an overnight stay - good welcome, nice big room (plainly but comfortably furnished), good bathroom, pleasant environment. When I couldn't get the bedhead lights to work, the receptionist (who was the only employee in the hotel) brought a couple of standard lamps from somewhere else, so the problem was fixed.
It was only my second stay at a Red Roof Inn, and I was as satisfied as I was with the first; the French group which owns the brand has done a good job, but then their Novotel chain in Europe and round the world is good, too.
It's a three-storey modern building with internal corridors just beyond the edge of town near the interstate junction. There was some traffic noise, but not enough to keep me awake. The included breakfast was simple but okay, and the coffee had more taste than in most hotels.
