My family has been boating down the Silver River to Silver Springs since I was a little girl, some 40 years. It's a wonderful journey, and you see so much wildlife and indigenous plants, flowers, and trees. There are also spots where you can pull over, tie off your boat, and swim in the beautiful, clear, cold water. One tip: when you get to where the monkeys are, don't pull too close. They've been known to jump into the boat! All in all, it's such a wonderful journey through an untouched part of ancient Florida, and you'll never forget it.

It has been several years since we have been here but the place is slowly going down hill. The lighthouse ride and kiddie water boats look like they have not worked for years. The river cruise boat ride being refurbished.
Glass bottom boat tours are still great and the grand kids were amazed.

Relaxing, not too busy with other boats. Great for a canoe, or kayak.

If you live in the area it's worth visiting. We took our 2 yr old there and he loved it. For adults though...it's okay. Here's some highlights.
-Make a weekend or day of it and buy an "All Access Silver Pass" online first. This will get you into Wild Waters theme park and you won't have to pay the $7 for parking- but you have to buy online or you'll pay for parking first.
-If you buy the pass it gets you in to both parks- trust me you'll be bored at Silver Springs after 2 hours.
-They say no outside food and drinks, but bring some snacks. Once you get in your choices for food are basically carnival food- chicken, burgers, popcorn and pizza. Expect to pay $8-10 for a greasy burger, fries and a drink.
-Hit the furthest rides first. The jeep trail adventure is fun and you'll get to see some unique animals (gibbons, Kodiak bears, and lots of varieties of sleeping yaks, pigs and goats).
-Don't pay the $1.00 for the fish food at the glass bottom boat ride. The fish will thank you, but you can't watch them eat. The boat ride is really the best of the attraction and the river is truly amazing. Don't be afraid if there's long lines, they go fast.
-Don't pay $4.00 to feed the giraffe. This poor fella is apparently only here to sucker people into buying food (like me).
-Do enjoy the 1960's architecture. It will probably be rotted out in another 5 years.
-The petting zoo is a little sketchy, but not bad and next door the younger kids will love the carousel.
-The "Lighthouse" ride that takes you up 60' to see all of the park is usually closed for repairs which doesn't bode well for when it is in operation.
-If you get the access pass hit up Wild Waters in the afternoon. By this time the sun is up, most of the pee has been filtered out of the pool and the lifeguards are awake.
-Given that you can get the cost of a 2-for-1 for $50/person and it lasts for 12 months from date of purchase if you go back once it pays for itself (and free parking).

We liked Silver Springs State Park so much that we purchased seasonal passes. The glass bottom boat rides on the river are nice, but there is so much more to see. There are also many good quality concerts scheduled on many Saturdays, with many well known performers. Great for families, couples, or anyone regardless of age. Adjacent water park adds to the fun.
