It's practically in my new back yard. I moved to North Palm Beach from St. Petersburg and was lamenting the loss of walkable beaches and trails. That was until I found MacArthur Beach State Park. It has those and thens some. Free, excellent Bluegrass music every Sunday and some other days of the month. Free kayaks for members ... I joined!! A .3 mile very unique boardwalk walk from the park to the beach. A museum. And the park itself ... a wonderland of everything a pristine Florida hammock, coastal and mangrove forrest should be. If you live in North Palm Beach, join. If you don't, visit. A very special place.

No kidding, this park is the best kept secret in Palm Beach County. I almost don't want to give this review because I enjoy the quite, pristine beauty of this park, dunes and beach. The admission is well worth the value. Once through the gate, you enter a true Florida hammock. One of the very few left in existence. You will find ample parking with adjacent nature trails and beach access across the estuary bridge. A gift shop and nature exhibit area as well as kayaking launch site, restrooms and a small amphitheater area where demonstrations and concerts are held is conveniently located near the estuary bridge as well. There is a regularly running tram to take you to the beach or you can walk the short distance to the dunes. Once you cross the bridge, you will find a spectacular view of the beach. Long walks, seashells, swimming and sun-bathing await. A membership to the park is the best deal in town if you are a kayaker. The membership pays your admission into the park every day as well as the inclusive rental of either 2 single kayaks or 2 tandem kayaks...every single day for a year if you so choose! Where else can you find a deal like that? There are often classes, hikes and kayaking tours to enjoy. Go and have a great time...but please don't tell your friends...shhhh...it will be our little secret!

My husband and I really enjoyed our visit to John D. MacArthur Beach State Park. We rented a kayak and walked the nature trail. We had a great conversation and some good tips from a park ranger.
