I had a lovely lunch at the Green Flash outside with the water at my back. There are 5-6 tables outside at lunchtime. The food was really good: conch chowder, swordfish, salad, and fried clams were eaten by group. Even the iced tea was good, strong not watery. I hope this means that The Green Flash has returned to its prior reputation as a very good choice for dining on Captiva.

There are not a lot of dinner options in Captiva and, after driving around for awhile in search of a restaurant, we ended up at the Green Flash. The view was nice, it was close to the South Seas Resort, and how bad could it be? The answer, unfortunately, was awful. It was like going to a restaurant 40 years ago, before anyone had been to cooking school and knew where the spice rack was. The food was unappetizing to look, the vegetables were soggy, and everything was largely tasteless. If you like good food, look elsewhere!

The view of the bay is a lovely backdrop for the decent (not fantastic) food. The appetisers were pretty uninspiring - although to be fair we only had salads. The entree of red snapper was very tasty, although one of them was very overdone, as were the vegetables for our taste.
The staff are pleasant enough, although like the decor, seem rather 'dated'. The restrooms are just plain weird!

We had dinner one night at Green Flash to try something other than our hotel. GREAT location. All tables have a water view (bay, not Gulf). Food was average, service good. Everything felt rushed even though it wasn't high season and no one was waiting. We ordered Key Lime pie for dessert which was just a frozen thing with a dollop of whipped cream. Didn't taste anything like key lime pie. Disappointing.

This restaurant's owner is from Switzerland thus European Cuisine more aptly describes the food than seafood. For example, we were there last week and I ordered the veal that was served en casserole with mushrooms and a wine sauce with homemade spatzel. This meal was "to die for! "
Two of our party had grouper deParis and thoroughly enjoyed it. Another had blackened grouper that was excellent and we shared a bottle of wine. We had a window table overlooking Roosevelt Channel and you could see clear across the bay to Pine Island. Our waiter was excellent. View, food and service were all excellent. What more could anyone want when going out for dinner?
