“Really--just go look around and then get desserts to go”
Reviewed April 14, 2014 via mobile

Don't come here for the food--just the amazing kitschy collection of stuff (that is worth the trip). As previous reviewers have noted, the desserts are HUGE, but not really all that good. Take a couple to go, look around while you wait, and you will have gotten the "best" of the Bubble Room. The servers do all seem haughty and/or unhappy. So curious as to what that's all about...

“Take the kids if it rains”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

This place relies on its collection of Stuff. It's neat to look at some of the old toys in their display (which covers the whole restaurant). There's not a lot to do on Captiva on a rainy day, especially for kids, and they might have fun looking around. However, the food is really below par. The desserts look impressive on the dessert tray, but they're mainly very large pieces of very ordinary cake. The lunch selections were below average.
They have a nice gimmick, but they don't keep up with the food quality standard found elsewhere on the islands.

“Worth one visit”
Reviewed April 12, 2014 via mobile

Overall a good fun place, if you're with a big fun crowd as we were. Food is average at best, be prepared to wait a bit and you do get the distinct feeling they're doing you a favour getting you a seat!! Barman was the grumpiest I've encountered (one was good) but this guy was strutting like he was Maître'd at Claridges. Salads were unnecessarily swimming in oil, steak lacked flavour, twice baked potato was a gooey sickly mush, Tarzan steaks are more fat than steak. Cakes for dessert were all quite nice and table server was fun. Guessing people don't come for the food, and the place just felt and looked dirty, but I'm guessing that's the "character" they allude too! Go once if you've got kids or are nostalgic about your childhood.

“Hmmm, probably would not come back”
Reviewed April 10, 2014 via mobile

Outside is adorable. Fun for kids. Cute gift shop. Lots inside for kids to look at. Lots of fish tanks but looking closer they aren't really well cared for. In fact, when we were seated there was a large dead fish being eaten by another!! Yuck!! Reseated quickly (if I had been on my own I probably would have called it but husband and kid were hungry). Lunch was mediocre and overpriced. Best were fried chips and drinks. Sandwich and burger nothing special. Dessert was tasty.
I'd agree with another reviewer: eat lunch elsewhere and stop here for dessert...maybe.

“Fun for kids, food mediocre, know for their layers cakes”
Reviewed April 10, 2014

Just dined here by the request of our 11 year old daughter. Had been a few years ago and she remebered it and wished to retrun. It is a visual overload of kitsch, toys and movie star pics. Our two young guests ordered the "Cheetah" meal off the kids menu and enjoyed the prime rib. I ordered the "Calypso at Midnight" which was a giant salad that you can get salmon, shrimp or chicken added. The salad was good and huge and the serving of salmon on it was generous. I had plenty left over for a full second meal the next day. The other two adults in our party ordered the "Gone with the Fin" which was described as thai style grouper but they didn't find any thai seasoning connection. The entrees are pricey I think the salad was about $19 before adding the salmon for an additional $7, I think the kids meals were about $13 I don't think that included the $1.75 sodas, the grouper was about $29 i think. The servings are oversized. The cake slices are huge but that makes them fun and memorable, my daughter had not forgotten. The adults shared a slice of the one with coconut which was very good and the kids shared a chocolate cake layered with fresh strawberries and whipped cream which also got good reviews. I think next time we may just get cake to go and skip the main courses that are over priced and fair. The atmosphere makes it fun for kids on vacation.
