“Captive Audience on Captiva”
Reviewed December 5, 2013 via mobile

Staying on Captiva is not a new experience for me and familiarity of the quirks of a small inn are well known. What is unfamiliar, is the full of excuses attitude of the office staff. Yes, I am very aware that the inn is old. Being old is no excuse for having to fill the toilet with water all night because someone turned off the cold water and no one checked to make sure it was running again. It is also no excuse for the electricity going off twice while using a hair dryer. One time, I was in the shower while my partner was using the dryer and the power went out. It was very dark in the bathroom and it could have been an accident in the making. Thank goodness we knew to check the breaker box. The Love Shack room is inexpensive, but having working water and electric should have nothing to do with the cost of the room.
I remember when Captiva Island Inn opened and recall seeing it at its best for years. Unfortunately, the attention to small details by all staff has made it look old and tired. The office staff have a very "oh, well" attitude. They should all take a course in hospitality training.
Captiva is amazing. I just wish there were a few more choices for a long weekend stay. So, it's Captive on Captiva at this inn.

As a side note, the manager did refund one nights stay for all of the issues we had. By doing that he saved face, but it does not change the facts that made this necessary.

Thank you for your review and for the time it took you to share your experience. I am so terribly sorry for all the trouble you encounter during your stay. Our hotel team usually goes way above and beyond to solve problems and satisfy our guest as you can see from our previous review. I want to thank you for bringing these issues to my attention. While I do work at the hotel 5 days a week some issue do not reach me until it is too late.

It is because of guests like yourself that we are able to correct our mistakes and prevent them from happening again. The entire staff has been informed of the situation and the maintenance issues have been fixed. Once again, thank you for staying with us, I hope that you will choose our property again when you are in the area.

My boyfriend and I visited Captiva Island Inn for a mini vacation and were thrilled with the whole experience. When we checked in we were immediately offered an upgrade and given a choice of 2 larger cottages (at no additional cost) I was thrilled because the one I really wanted was available. It was beautifully furnished and by staying here you really don't have to get in your vehicle to get anything you want. It's all there! Bars, restraunts, beach, pool and a coffee shop right next door. The island grocery is not even a block away!! This place is not brand new so dont expect that, but to us it was perfect!.....Lovely place and very courteous staff!! P.S. The beach is less than perfect right now but they are working on it furiously to restore it to its usual glory. In conclusion, Stay Here!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Iris room which is 2 bedrooms so there is space for a family but only one bathroom...

Captiva is a quiet little village on an island near Ft Meyers, Fl. We stayed in the cottages and had our own private patio in the garden. All was well equipped, nicely decorated and the location was suburb. They give you a complimentary voucher for the best restaurants on the island ... talk about a great breakfast! We will be back.

We returned this week to our little hideaway on Captiva Island, this was our 10th stay.My wife and I try to get the single room cottage nicely decorated for a very reasonable price when we stay.Breakfast is included at the very best breakfast spot on the island, our favorite dish is the crab benedict. The beach is a very short block away. There are cute little artist type shops all within a three block area. The beach is a shell collectors goldmine, the sunsets are incredible and on this weeks stay we viewed over a hundred dolphins while we were walking or sunning on the beach.

We stayed veterans day weekend at CIIB&B. The Celebration house common areas and our room Brynnas room were very elegant and clean. Refrigirator and kitchen area are modern and spacious. We were not there to watch tv, but it appeared to be a flat screen. the grounds certainly could use some extensive TLCCCCCCCC. I wish the had Jacuszzi was operational but the pool area was quaint. the pool had some leaves in it but what florida pool without a lanai does? we only sat there while i worked out, the rest of the time we spent at the beatifull beach. the restaurants also need some TLCCC. Maybe time to upgrade the canvas on the umbrellas. the food was good and servers were very pleasant and accomodating. My biggest issue is with the AC. Very noisy(i noticed it was just outside of Brinnas room) and the controls were in the common areas so hard to sleep, we are used to cranking the AC down to sleep. we will definetely be back but stay in another room.

We stayed several days in the Celebration House and at first all looked wonderful. The house is certainly beautiful and furnished with beautiful furniture. However...when you look close things are just plain poorly maintained. I don't know if the owner is managing from afar or its owned by a corp that doesn't want to spend money. Chair on the front front porch had a broken slat with a sharp edge pointing up, table on front porch was missing the end of one leg, soap dish in the shower was nasty with rust, ceiling fans rusty, pool was full of leaves during our entire stay and probably the worst was the door knob that fell off every time you tried to use it. We intended to do some cooking while there and the kitchen was lovely but there was only one pan to cook in. The microwave was missing the plate that sits on the bottom and spins, making it pretty useless. One of the bedrooms has a dresser placed by the door so the bedroom door wouldn't open all the way. The tvs were small box tvs and from the bed you couldn't see the tv so we didn't bother. No Wifi and this day and age everyone expects that. Overall we were very disappointed that such a beautiful place had so many annoying issues that seem so easy to fix if anyone cared.

I don't know where to start, my boyfriend surprised me with the vacation at the Captiva Island Inn and I couldn't think of anything more romantic. From the second we got there everything was perfect and then we enjoyed the sunset and had a great night at the Keylime bistro. That morning we had breakfast at the RC otters. The food was delicious as well. We went down to the beach, looked for seashells, and enjoyed the rest of the day. This is a great place for couples or anyone looking to get away for a little bit, also the mucky duck was a great place for lunch. All the staff was extremely accommodating! thanks again, we will be back next year!
