“Island Getaway”

We have been coming to this resort for over 25 years for a "stay vacation", both as a couple and with our family. It is like being thousands of miles away from Florida at a Caribbean island. The staff is always friendly and the property clean. We like to stay in the cottages (most are efficiencies but the two bedroom is fantastic for a family), which are very popular because of their small kitchen (some have ovens) and our ability to bring our dog.

The beach is just across the street and the property rents chairs and canopies, making it convenient for travelers. The continental breakfast is usually enough to get your day started, but they also offer discounted breakfasts for guests which are tasty.

Room Tip: Love the cottages...book well in advance

My family thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Sanibel/Captiva- the beach is beautiful and we found loads of shells! On a walk along the beach, my daughter and I viewed crabs, a sea turtle making its way to the ocean and dolphins! The visit was perfect and relaxing- it is a quaint wonderful place to stay! We had a room on the bayside and the oceanside and we enjoyed both views!

This was a long weekend getaway for us.

We had a studio on bayside, palmetto building. room had small fridge, smooth top 2 burner range, silverware, pots and plates, etc. fully equipped, and had toaster. small safe in closet, This was a remodeled unit, and very nice looking. one problem was the new LG a/c. it blows right on the bead at your head. hard to change the air flow. also had a ceiling fan over bed. screened patio, with nice chairs and table. nice view. I saw dolphins in the bay in the morning.

2 issues with room, pet friendly meant some barking dogs when people go to breakfast./dinner, and the tile floors are loud, and transmit the moving furniture upstairs. -better feet on chairs or rollers would solve this. get a upstairs unit! all rooms have doors to the next so you can hear thru the doors a bit if your neighbor is loud. The cabins might be better for next time, or maybe the beach view units, even thought they are pretty close to the road, there is not much traffic at night. if you wish to sleep in it could be an issue.

Pool is saltwater treated rather than chlorine which was very nice on the skin. also the water was cool, or cooled. again, nice benefit when its in the 90's. I didn't eat at the pool grill but it seemed nice.

Everyone working at the resort couldn't be nicer or friendlier. Service was really outstanding, and made up for some of the shortcomings of the property. Everything on captiva/sanibel is pricey, but Tween was reasonable considering the island location.

the website is very lacking in info. hard to tell what is in a room, rates, and what is offered.

Kayaks, SUP, and boat rentals on site.

Room Tip: top floor, end unit for quiet. all have adjoining doors for families. -that also makes them not as...

We stayed at tweens again for our annual summer trip.
The improvements to the gumbo limbo building where we like to stay were great! Everything so pretty and new. They added sliding wood look "blinds" to Living room sliding doors which were very nice as opposed to old style curtains. The kitchen as very pretty- with a smaller island and a little more space. The flat screen tv in the living room was also a nice addition. The only downside to the improvements was that the dishwasher is gone and the unit housing the TV(also providing drawer-space) wwere gone. The AC was very powerful in the living room but not so much in the bedroom- making it so that you virtually froze in the living room to keep the bedroom at a comfy temp.
Th room we like is the end unit closest to the marina- very spacious balcony. But this year the guys who run the on site kyak/SUP rentals were quite loud form the start of the day- not so relaxing if you wake up and want to have a coffee or read a book on the balcony. The guys are very friendly and busily engaging potential customers- it would be considerate if they kept their voices down a little and kept their phone ring volume low or on vibrate- instead of at max volume.
Our faorite part of tweens is "coming home" to some very friendly staff. The dining room crew is always a favorite and are all top notch as far as customer satisfaction. The morning brekfast buffet can get crowded- the hosts and wait staff handle it with ease. Dan and Pauline are always friendly and smiling- to me this is what a resort experience should be like. The wait staff is at your table quickly with coffee and tea, ice water ect. My children are now teenagers, and after coming for 10 years are still excited to see Dan and Pauline! Sophie provided much of the table service during our stay and is absolutely lovely as well! Kudos the this group for making the start of our days at tweens so wonderful!
The front desk staff has become more courteous and welcoming- this year we were even greeted with a "welcome back"...finally after 12+ visits!

The pool bar staff has become more engaging as well...I was happy to see Barbara who used to be at the dining room is now at teh pool bar. She was attentive and friendly- just the way it should be.
The property remains well maintained. The housekeeping staff continues to provide great service. Glad to see that along with some of the new rules- the staff are embracing customer satisfaction! Great Job!

One of the best vacation hideouts ever! Took the family for a quick two day visit discovering it on the way back from our day trip. We decided to call back the next morning and book two nights stay. The 3 bedroom blue cottage was spacious, cozy, relaxed, full of amenities. There were some issues with the cottage that were addressed by the staff. The key measure of any organization is the response.

We loved sitting out on the porch/lanai overlooking the bayside morning, midday and evening. The master suite was a great escape from the kids inclusive of large tub, TV and dual vanity. The master suite bed with TV also spacious with a separate entrance. Felt very relaxed.

The beach was literally across the street - DO THE CHAIRS & UMBRELLA or CABANA. These are a must do making the beach experience that much more enjoyable.

The breakfast was nice...go early...you have the place to yourself. Enjoy the kayak and SUP from a great little company right on site - the rental boats looked a little tired from a different company.

The place has a lot of potential and is a hidden secret. Highly recommend.

We stayed in a gulf view room, which has a nice view and we enjoyed sitting on the lanai. The property is old and they have made some improvements. The pool is nice and appears clean. We spent most of our time on the beach where they rented beach chairs, umbrellas and cabanas. It would be helpful if they advertised their rates on the website. It would also be helpful if they advertised that they rent bicycles so we rented from a company in Captiva. The room was nice and clean, but they have recently gone to air conditioning units that are located near the top of the wall right next to the bed. It blows air toward the bed, even when you adjust the direction of the flow. It is a nice unit, but the location should be somewhere other than where you are trying to sleep. Their wi-fi was awful. We couldn't keep a connection. We brought our Roku player in case we wanted to watch Netflix, HBO, etc. at night and the wi-fi connection wasn't strong enough to load a show. Our cell phone connection wasn't good either and kept switching from wi-fi to 4G with one bar. Very frustrating. We ate the free breakfast offered every morning, but it was nothing but carbs. Lots of fruit, which is fine, but the rest was muffins, pastries, breads and cereal and NO protein, unless you paid extra. The beach has the most beautiful sunsets. We liked that people came out to the beach every night at sunset with their families to watch. We would take a drink and towel with us and sit at the top of the shore. It was a nice few days away. If they could work on better wi-fi, moving the air conditioner and adding to the breakfast, it would be almost perfect.

We have been here about 12 times since our honeymoon 24 years ago. We are spending this week (end of July 2014) in Peterson Cottage which is adorable and perfect for families. Had our anniversary dinner at the Old Captiva House which was superb. The Crow's nest has been fun and friendly.

Unfortunately the hotel staff's service has been erratic at best. This is the only hotel where separate soap is not given for bath and sink. Our rugs have not been not vacuumed since Saturday (this is Wednesday night), The screen has been off one of the window since we came and we have to keep chasing down towels or towel card or be charged $20.

On the bright side, my 9 and 11 yr old boys like pulling cups off the bottom of the pool and chasing the centipede under the table.

Today, a spider the size of a soft drink cup lid was in the bathroom while my husband drying off from a shower. When I caught it and brought it to the office the man there said it only had 6 legs and he had not seen a spider there in 5 years. i asked if he wanted to open the cup and count the legs, then said I was concerned about other spiders and if this was poisonous. He said he would dispose of the one I brought in. Later the office called and said they had checked Wikipedia and found it was an common nonpoisonous spider and asked if we wanted them to do a thorough cleaning and spray the next day. We will see if this happens.
