“Great family getaway for Florida residents”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2014

I booked a one bedroom condo in the tennis club villas for 6 nights for myself, husband and our two kids. We are on day 5 now and the place is great. We got a Florida resident special rate which included one free night and free breakfast buffet for kids 12 and under with paying adult. The buffet was very good but pricey (over $50) for two adults. The room is clean, comfortable and has a full kitchen. Each set of villas has their own pool. We do not have direct beach access over here but it's only a short walk across the street or a short trolley ride to the north end of the island. Kids are loving all the pools, water slides and nature we are surrounded by. We've seen manatees, found sandollars, starfish, hermit crabs and heard there are dolphins that come to the marina in the evenings. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The island is very large and private. They offer every water sport and activity we could think of. There is a $6 toll to get on the island so bring cash or have a sun pass. Outside the resort there is two grocery stores, restaurants, bookstores, shopping and cvs pharmacy. I would definitely recommend this place and hope to come back again.

Room Tip: If you want to be near the pools and activity center stay on the north end of the island. South end...

My husband and I stayed here for a short visit. The villa we stayed in was basically a privately owned condo that is being rented out by the resort. It was clean and nice. Not amazing for the price. The bathroom was tiny and could do with a little upgrading. We had a nice view of the marina. Beware the "no see um" at dusk. Bring some bug spray. The beach was beautiful and the water very clear. We enjoyed the ability to rent and ride bikes all over the complex. There were lots of bicycle racks for you to secure your bike. They have a really cute old fashioned ice scream and candy shop for kids. There is also a great kids pool with a water slide at the north side of the complex. The parking is free but there is a resort fee billed separately. Avoid the trolley, the waits are too long. They offer free wi-fi but don't expect to watch a movie on-line because it's waaaay too slow.

We recently took advantage of the south seas summer special book 3 nights get 4 th free. We stayed in the 2bedroom beach villas. We requested "recently updated" and the unit was very nice. We stayed in the 2400 building located next to the pool. We were on bottom floor (2 levels). Fairly easy access to the beach, just a short walk. We were surprised to see how busy the place was. It was difficult when booking to figure out where to stay, beach villas are not close to the pools with the slides and fountains ( and bar) but we wanted beach access so... In the end I think we made the right choice for us. The resort pools were very crowded in mid day much better in morning and after 5. We hauled our bikes with us but quickly realized WAY to busy to let the kids ride around or to the other end of resort. The bike path is very small, almost nonexistent in certain parts of the road so we drove to the other end. We also took the trolley once just so we could say we did it! All in all nice trip, great room, nice beach, staff was excellent. We ate at mucky duck (overpriced, not worth wait - just get drinks enjoy the band) and south seas restaurants. We enjoyed the resort places and also cooked in the condo.

Room Tip: Stay at harbor side if your not worried about being on the beach.

Just came back from a family vacation at South Seas and our kids could not be happier. The staff was amazing, they responded to all our requests pretty fast and, contrary to past stays, they were incredibly friendly and attentive. Yes, some of the units may need a little updating, but we took a Gulf Cottage and had a wonderful time there. Not as comfortable as home, but it is the beach. We cooked a few dinners, so we do not have much to say about the restaurants, although we had good poolside service and the kids enjoyed the pizza and ice cream. You do need to rent a golf cart in advance, but they also have trolley service in the resort. The location is ideal for relaxing and water sports. We took lots of beautiful pictures of the sunset.

Room Tip: Gulf Cottages have a beachfront

Our family stayed in 2 Lands’ End Condominiums at the north end of the island/resort. The condos were beautiful with views of the bay, golf course and the gulf. The condos had updated hardwoods, solid surface countertops throughout, and comfortable furniture with a functional kitchen with bar seating. We had a couple of issues with the room during our stay like the phones and alarm clock not working but who really needs those these days.

Lands’ End Condo location was great if you are in to fishing but if you love the beach be prepared for a 20-30 minute walk each way. Golf carts are available for rent for 175 for the first day and 75 for each day after that. We had 12 total people so the cost: benefit ratio did not seem great, we would rent these if we come back. The beach was nice, the guys that set up the chairs pack you on there 2-3 chairs deep from the water. There is some space away from the bar/restaurant that was less busy/packed.

We ate every dinner at a different restaurant on the island and Harborside by the marina (i think that is the name) was the best meal we had. Great service and quality of food. Scoops & Slices was a good after dinner dessert place with tons of candy and ice cream.

Overall the resort was nice with tons of stuff to do but if you just want to be a beach bum and eat stay off the resort and save your money.

My family went a few weeks ago to South Seas Island Resort in Captiva. The kids LOVED the water slides at the main pool and we enjoyed watching them. This is a great place to go when you would like to relax and do nothing else. There don't seem to be many activities and if you do not have a golf cart or bikes, you have to rely on the trolley to take you around. We tried to rent a golf cart but they were all rented for the same day and the following day so if you would like to rent a golf cart, call ahead! The kids loved the water slides (both of them) but after a couple of days, they were getting bored.

At the time of making the reservations, we had requested that we check in at 2pm instead of the standard 4pm and they said it shouldn't be a problem. We showed up at 3pm and the room wasn't ready, nor were we anywhere close to our friends (which we had also requested to be close by). We ended up getting another room in their building and a little earlier than 4pm. The room was decent, not worth the money in my opinion. The king size bed was nice but the sleeper sofa the kids had to sleep on was horrible. It's pretty bad when kids complain about how bad the bed is!! There weren't any extra blankets for them so it was a good thing we brought an extra one. The bathrooms had been updated but not very good.

The food in the restaurants were good. The kids loved the ice cream/candy shop near the main pools. Overall, it was a good trip away. It's a great place, just not perfect for our family for more than a couple of days.

Room Tip: I would pay a little more and make sure to get a beachfront room.

We are well-seasoned visitors of this spot since the 80's. I've been saying ti for several visits in a row now...the rooms need to be redone & refreshed badly. The only reason we keep coming back is the location & water sports we partake in while there.

Internet was ridiculous. I've never had this problem before. Our connection kept falling out constantly and the front desk seemed bothered by it. They did admit they new there was a in issue and they were currently switching providers.

We always stay in the harborside rooms. Either waterview or harborview. Fresh coat of paint, new furnishings, paintings on the wall, good sheets that don't feel like sandpaper, a good deep cleaning....all needed & well-overdue. Please or we'll soon be switching to Tween Waters Inn.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and your years of patronage. There is no excuse for the unit not being cleaned or any team member to not be hospitable and helpful in any situation. The internet upgrade is just about complete and I apologize that you experienced the issues that you did. The units were refreshed last year and during that period it was decided not to have pictures in the units as the view out to the water or the marina which every unit has is amazing. That being said with our customer feedback telling us pictures in the unit are important we are working with a local artist to source the pictures and will be installing within the next few months. The entry doors to the units which are showing some peeling are under warranty and will be redone at the same time as soon as occupancy allows. The sheets were a new product that we have already demanded a change out with supplier and our linen company is rotating them out with the new product and will be completely out of circulation within the next month.
I am a big Tween Waters fan but a totally different experience, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly if I can assist with your next reservation.
