“Beautiful getaway”

My husband and I stayed in the Bayside Villas for the weekend. It was cozy, definitely could use some upgrades but overall not too bad. A little overpriced for the villa though. You definitely should rent a golf cart when you're there so you can get around the resort. The pools were nice. Especially the one that overlooks the ocean on the North End. We had a blast going down the slides, lol. I only wish the pools were also open at night.

We had the breakfast buffet at Harbourside Bar & Grill. It was ok, not worth the $20/person though. Lunch at The Point was very good. You definitely get your money worth there. We had dinner at Doc Fords which is/isn't part of the resort and the food was amazing there. Scoops for dessert, slightly overpriced but what do you expect for a resort.

We played the golf course Saturday morning which was surprisingly not busy which was good for us. The gentleman at the Golf shop was very helpful and nice.

This place is definitely made for families. Very kid friendly. All the staff were super friendly.

Would like to see more adult areas. Maybe an adult only bar or some activities like bingo.

Would definitely come back.

My family and I (myself, my husband and 2 boys, age 15 & 12) stayed in a one bedroom Beach Villa during the week of July 7 2014. The location of the unit was perfect - just outside our unit was the beach where there was always somone there to set up beach chairs and umbrellas - we never had a problem finding a spot regardless of what time of day it was. The staff on the beach is helpful and always willing to give you as many beach umbrellas, beach chairs and towels that you need. When we were there the ocean temp was 89 degrees - clear water and endless shells - an absolutely beautiful beach, BEAUTIFUL sunsets. There were two pools outside our unit - small, but perfect for a dip after the beach.

Our unit was located in the south part of the resort, which is close to the starbucks and shops, but far from the other end of the resort where the big pools, waterslide and larger harbor are. While too far to walk, it was an easy bike ride, and we would take our bikes down to go to the larger pools. One day we walked on the beach down to the north end of the resort and I found that our beach areas was better than the beach area at the north end (the beach is all the same, but they only put the beach chairs and umbrellas in certain areas). The north end beach does have the snack bar, but the beach area seemed smaller and more crowded.

We rented bikes for our entire stay (they give you a promotion so bikes are only $5/day per person if you rent for your entire stay - definitely worth it as we took our bikes everywhere). As other reviewers point out, everything is expensive on the resort. We stopped at the Publix in Ft. Myers after arriving at the airport and bought food for breakfast, lunch and snacks, and it worked out perfectly. We would have breakfast and lunch in our unit and eat dinner out. There are definitely more choices of restaurants on Sanibel than on Captiva, it just depends on how far you want to drive. We did find the choice of restaurants a bit limited on Captiva.

The unit itself suited our needs. It was a bit worn and dated, particularly in the bathroom. We are not picky, and I found the unit to be exactly what we needed with the full kitchen, dining and living room. My husband and older son slept in the king sized bed bedroom and myself and younger son slept in the pull out in the living room - which was comfortable. We were very comfortable in our unit, and found it very roomy, but found the batrhoom to be a bit small, and showing a lot of wear. If you are used to luxury, fancy accomodations, the beach villas may not be for you. This is the only reason I did not give the resort a 5 star rating.

We loved this resort because we did not feel like we were "stuck" at one pool or beach, the resort is big enough that you don't run out of things to do. The staff at the front desk was not overly friendly, but we only dealt with thm at check in and check out. The first night we were there we called to get extra towels and blankets and housekeeping brought them within 30 minutes.

If you are looking for a relaxing, fun, family beach vacation this resort is perfect, but if you are looking for luxury accomodations and planning on spending a lot of time in your unit, you may want to explore other options within the resort, but if we go back, which hopefully we will, we would probably choose to stay in the Beach Villas again because of their location.

Room Tip: We found the Beach Villas on the South end to be perfect, but if you want to be close to the large p...

We love this place; first took my kids over in sixties. It was a dirt road, no street lights, the only store closed at dusk. Lots of the staff were young, on school break, or summer jobs. Marriott Harbour View Villas has a real super property. Ninety percent of the trees and landscaping are native. Most of the staff are young and helpful. You are in beautifully decorated, modern villas on the Gulf of Mexico; and not the South Seas. Lucky you, because the water is 80 degrees in the Gulf. You have a beautiful pool that's a little cooler temperature. The resort has everything, restaurants, spa, shopping,, fishing. You wouldn't mind being "captive" on Captiva.

Room Tip: Reserve a two bedroom villa on the Gulf. Not a lot of difference in price.

We had a fabulous 3 night experience in a 2 bedroom beach villa this month with our daughters. This is a perfect place to get away and enjoy the beach, ocean, and quality family time. The buildings are set back from the water preserving the natural dune landscape. The unit was clean, well laid out with wonderful screened in porch with view of dunes and ocean. The resort provides nice bath amenities. We brought enough food to make simple meals and not be on a schedule. The kitchen was basically equipped, but enabled us to make all of our own meals so we could maximize time on the beach and in the water. We literally spent 5-7 hours daily in the water culminating in beautiful sunsets each night. My husband is an avid fisherman; being right on the beach meant he could fish at sun up, sun down and any time the family wasn't engaged in family fun. Rent bikes and really leave the car parked. The small villa pool and outdoor showers were an added bonus. Bring your mask and snorkel so you can scour the ocean floor for interesting shells, starfish and other sea life. Other than rental bikes and chairs and umbrellas on the beach, we did not partake in the other resort offerings. If you love the beach, this is the place for you!

Room Tip: Beachfront villas were perfect for our water loving family.

We just returned home yesterday from our first stay at South Seas Island Resort. If you are looking for nightlife this is not the place for you but if you are looking for a beautiful setting with lots of convenience, South Seas should be on your list to check out. We stayed in a beach cottage, which was really a unit in a 4-plex (but still nice). The beach was about 50 yards away but there was vegetation blocking a bit of the view. However, you could still see the water and there are nice trails that lead to a very clean beach that wasn't crowded at all, and sea shells galore! Great sunsets too!

We enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the Harborside Restaurant every morning and went to Doc Ford's every evening for dinner rather than cooking (on vacation after all!), though our unit had a full kitchen, and both were good. We liked the ice cream shop on site as well. If you go in the morning or evening to the north side harbor you should be able to see Manatees up close and personal. We did! There is a trolley that runs around the whole resort that is free of charge and you can also rent a golf cart to drive around if you prefer or even a bicycle. The grounds are gorgeous, by the way but the resort is HUGE, 2 miles in length, and the humidity is high so I recommend NOT planning on walking everywhere. You can rent fishing equipment or buy it on site, catch a sight seeing cruise through Captiva Cruises on site, even buy a good selection of groceries (including beer and alcohol) at the Ships Store on site. There is a Starbucks located right outside the resort as well.

I have read other reviews from guests that had a different experience with us. This is a time share community and I believe that those who did not get access to wrist bands rented their units from another company besides the main South Seas management company. We rented directly from them through their website. The decor of your room is going to be hit or miss depending on the owner. Ours was decent but there were a few issues. However, the space and the laundry room in our unit made up for it! Our family will be returning!

Room Tip: Don't expect a stand alone, single unit when you arrive, even if your reservation says beach cot...

We made a trip over to Captiva from Boca Raton FL to see what South Seas Isaland was like - spent two nights, accomodations were fantastic - We parked our car when we arrived and it stayed there! Didn't need a golf cart or bike - it was a short walk to the beach (which we took through the pool area and tennis courts) - a very scenic and pleasant walk...

As for seeing the rest of the resort grounds & activities, the trolley proved to be just fine! We actually loved being at the south end after seeing the north - because it was much more quiet and laid back, no hustle-bustle!

The service on the beach was very professional, the guys were alert and very attentive to everyone that arrived looking for chaise lounges, umbrellas and towels - They have such patience, we couldn't believe how many people ignored their prompt and courteous service by not tipping the boys - but, I guess it takes all kinds!

Southseas Tennis Villas were a great find!
