“Super Cruise - Not So Super Cabbage Key”
Review of Captiva Cruises

We really enjoyed the overall cruise as our guide was interesting and informative. We were so fortunate to see so many dolphins, and the weather was perfect for sitting on the top deck. We were on the same boat as the people who were going to Useppa Island, but we had chosen to visit Cabbage Key based upon the information we read on the internet. The people who went to Useppa Island returned with smiles - unfortunately we didn't. The advertised nature trail is very short and unkempt. The water tower climb took less than 5 minutes, and the view was obstructed. Worst of all was the restaurant. Yes, there were dollar bills adorning the walls, (as advertised) but the food was more than disappointing. We were eager to get back on the boat! The cruise was wonderful, but chose another destination!!

we had a wonderful time on our cruise with captains George in Elliot. The showing was amazing and the 2 and a half hour morning trip was perfect time for our 4 year old and 1 year old to have fun but still be home before their nap

would definitely recommend and do again

We enjoyed an absolutely wonderful day on the Eco-Heritage Day Trip to north Pine Island. We've enjoyed trips to Useppa Island and Cabbage Key in the past but I'd have to say that this new trip was the best. Our guides, Shawn and Richard, were informative and enthusiastic providing details on the wildlife and fishing heritage of the area. We had a delicious lunch at Tarpon Bay Lodge and then participated in an hour walk through the Randall Research Center learning about the Calusas, the Native Americans who once dominated the area for centuries. The trip concluded by putting out a net to bring in various critters living in the bay and learning more about the importance of the Pine Island Sound as a food source for so many types of animals as well as humans. It didn't hurt that we had an stellar weather that day!

We decided to do some serious shelling and chose the Captiva Cruises. The weather was not ideal for the trip to Caya Costa State Park, but we dressed for the day. The state park has no facilities on the island, but the boat we took stayed moored for the two hours that we were there and had a bathroom on the boat. It also has limited drinks and sandwiches for purchase. We brought our own water and didn't buy anything while on the boat. It takes about 1/2 hour to get to the park.
The boat anchors on the beach. Most of the good shelling is done on the other side of the island, however there are tons of shells everywhere. The walk to the other side of the island is very short. We found all kinds of shells and had a blast while there. The two hours there went by quickly. The Captain and the first mate were very helpful with info about the island and shelling.
We are already anxious to go back. (only with better weather)

he cruise out to this island was fun! We saw lots of dolphins. My family enjoyed eating at the restaurant, walking the pink promenade, looking at the rare turtles, walking the beaches, and visiting the museum that explains the planning of the Bay of Pigs. Highly recommend this excursion for people of all ages!
