Suntan Terrace, like most of the hotels on Casey Key, is on both sides of the narrow road. One side faces the Gulf and the other faces the Gulf Intracoastal. The hotel was almost full of people staying a month or more and many had returned there year after year. We had just a room, not an apartment, but it is all that was available. The "buzz" among long time visitors is that it is going downhill a bit. Furniture is getting worn and it is not geting well vacuumed. But everyone comes anyway because of its location and ambiance. There is a Tiki bar, bring your own drinks, in the middle of the courtyard on the beach side and people gather to talk, and everyone gathers, with their glass of wine, to watch the sunset from the terrace. There are a couple restaurants in walking distance. The bed in our room was a little uncomfortable but we would come back anyway because we liked the place despite its drawbacks. There are some beach chairs to use, but if you have room in your car, I'd suggest bringing your own to make sure you have one. It has a good wireless internet signal. There is a pool, but it is not heated any more, so I hear. I didn't see anyone in it.

My friend and I stayed in room 16- the sofa-bed had been broken by the previous tenants (HOW?) But they brought us a hide-a-bed. The shower wouldn't drain very fast, so one day we just used the shower of an empty room. The sofabed was replaced by a nice , new big one, and the plumber came and fixed the drain (SAND!) The atmosphere is very laid back, the decor would make Jimmy Buffet feel at home. Love the tiki bar-love the view, right on the Gulf, the pool was clean, the hot tub was working-we loved it. Don't expect a four star resort-but if you want to get away and relax, go here. Loved it.

What a great place and what a great price. The motel runs from the beach back to a mangrove-lined waterway, divided by a road that has only a few slow-moving cars. It's a real beach too, with loose sand rising up to sea oats. The motel has its own path through the sea oats. The water is nice and there's a lifeguard at the public access a few hundred yards down the beach. There are plenty of pelicans, ibises and egrets cruising around.

When we weren't on the beach, we watched from the dock out back as fish swam in with the rising tide or we hung out at the pool. I think we were the only people who arrived without fishing rods. Some stores, including an ice cream place, are in walking range and there's a restaurant/bar at the other side of the drawbridge.

The motel is cleaner than my house and the efficiency is roomy enough to give two adults and two teenaged girls plenty of personal space. A lot of people we met are from Florida and one said he lives in a beach town, but vacations here to be at a real beach.

Really what can you say bad about this place. Suntan Terrace is like the home away from home except much more beautiful. :) The manager and staff are wonderful and nice.(especially the nice teenager that sometimes runs the front desk). Their rooms are nice and clean. They have a crystal clear pool that feels so nice after spending long hours on the beach. Which brings me to my next comment, BEACHFRONT! It's so wonderful seeing the sunrise and sunset.

We love the Sun Tan Terrace. We've stayed there 4 times.

Sorry about the bad review from the other customer. But we've never had a problem and we recommend it to others.

Email me if you have other questions.. I don't work for the hotel.

We found this quaint resort/motel on our way to Captiva Island. We checked in for one night, but loved the place so much we decided to stay the entire length of our vacation here instead. We spent six nights in room number 8, (which is actually room number 2 on the virtual tour of their website), The room was clean, had all of the neccesities, such as pots, pans, silverware and such. But the view from this room was the kicker. We had a private deck that was huge, probably 25 feet in length to enjoy the sunsets at night. The rate we paid was a about 120.00 with tax, and they didn't charge us extra for the kids, or a late check out. If you stay here, which I highly reccommend, be sure to request room number 8, you wont be disapointed. If you stay, and are looking for a good restaurant, check out pelican alley, It was a seafood restaurant and sushi bar within walking distance that was really good.
