We just spent three nights at Island House and loved it, for the most part. Nice balcony overlooking a beautiful beach. The room was a well-equipped efficiency that felt really uncrowded when the murphy bed was folded up. It was comfortably furnished and the kitchen was exceptionally well-stocked. It was also cleaner than the significantly more expensive place we stayed last year, which suffered a little from a bit of mildew in the bathroom. My only beef (and this almost made me knock off two stars), the manager was building some kind of beach bar while we were there, and he waited on two successive nights until right around sunset to start sawing the tile. If you've heard a tile saw, it's very loud, screechy, and unpleasant. Not only that, but the saw kicked up big clouds of dust that would have made it impossible to use the nearby grills or even sit down in the lounge area enjoying the sunset. The sunsets at Casey Key are so special that they celebrate them with a drum circle every Saturday night -- savoring them is an essential part of the experience. I really couldn't believe it. Otherwise, the managers were very nice, but this was just a baffling misstep.
