Reviewed December 27, 2012

We just spent three nights at Island House and loved it, for the most part. Nice balcony overlooking a beautiful beach. The room was a well-equipped efficiency that felt really uncrowded when the murphy bed was folded up. It was comfortably furnished and the kitchen was exceptionally well-stocked. It was also cleaner than the significantly more expensive place we stayed last year, which suffered a little from a bit of mildew in the bathroom. My only beef (and this almost made me knock off two stars), the manager was building some kind of beach bar while we were there, and he waited on two successive nights until right around sunset to start sawing the tile. If you've heard a tile saw, it's very loud, screechy, and unpleasant. Not only that, but the saw kicked up big clouds of dust that would have made it impossible to use the nearby grills or even sit down in the lounge area enjoying the sunset. The sunsets at Casey Key are so special that they celebrate them with a drum circle every Saturday night -- savoring them is an essential part of the experience. I really couldn't believe it. Otherwise, the managers were very nice, but this was just a baffling misstep.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed in this unique hotel. The location is within walking distance to restaurants, and love the area. We stayed in the efficiency and don't mind taking out our garbage and bringing the sheets down to laundry. It is very clean and Stacy is friendly and helpful.

My family has been coming to the Island House for years, and my wife came here as a little girl. Hard by the Gulf of Mexico, the Island House is one of our favorites. There is no maid service, but your view out the back door always features the Gulf! Well Kept and within walking distance of eateries, the Island House sits on Casey Key, a barrier island nestled between the Gulf and the Intercoastal Waterway. There is only beach and any water sport you want. Not a roller coaster in sight.

Found the place online while looking for a budget place with an ocean (gulf) view. This place was AMAZING! Old school architecture harkens back to the 1960's. Stayed in Room 11, upstairs. Immaculately CLEAN! Lovely kitchenette with everything you could possibly need. Sliders onto the 2nd story balcony looked at 180 degree view of the Gulf. The manager was incredibly helpful, welcoming, friendly and made us feel like VIPs. Bathroom looked like it was redone a week prior to our arrival - spotless - sparkling white caulk - clean towels and linens. Loved the Murphy Bed -- mattress was FANTASTIC (we are fussy, too!) Great TV/Cable selection. Tranquil surroundings. They have a selection of beach chairs, masks, snorkels, noodles, etc. for use in the water/at the beach. Also have several nice BBQ grills for use by guests. They do not have daily housekeeping - but that didn't matter to us. For the price, we were THRILLED by this place and will DEFINITELY be returning!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!

Room Tip: Make sure you specify you want one of the rooms facing the Gulf/Beach. Building is "L" s...

Hubbie and I went away for a long weekend. Had been to Casey Key 24 yrs ago and decided it was time to go back. This ocean front gem was the cleanest place I've EVER rented anywhere!!! Small efficiency with a queen Murphy bed was fine for the short stay for the two of us. The balcony overlooking the water was the best. The location is old Florida, more natural and no hi-rises, very quiet and peaceful. Lights out at night due to turtle nesting season. They provide the lounge chairs that can be taken down to the beach...a nice plus. They also have a stash of items that can be used while there: floats, noodles, coolers, charcoal, lighter fluid, games, books, etc. The manager Stacey was great. We'll definitely go back.
