This restaurant was never a babershop. My dad and uncle had that shop and it has since been torn down. It also was never a small house unless you include the back building, the building was orginally built as a commercial space and was a family restaurant for years.

Living in Destin, you tend to visit a lot of the restaurants and attractions south of the Choctaw Bay, if nothing else because of convenience. However, every now and then you get tired of the summer traffic and crowds and decide to venture across the bridge to find a nice place to eat or shop away from the chaos.

One 20 Bistro is such a place. Tucked away off of Partin Road in Niceville, near the High school, One 20 has the ambiance of the types of restaurants you would normally find in a big city. While the outside building isn't much to look at, as soon as you step inside you are instantly transported to a quaint European cafe. The decor is very nice, and with only 75 seats or so, you don't feel like just a number. Of course, servers like Jose help to make sure you feel special, also.

The food was very tasty and the portion sizes were perfect. We didn't have any appetizers, but still could only finish our main course. We'll have to go back to get dessert sometime, as they looked very appealing.

Whether you're a local looking for an amazing place to eat, or if you're a tourist wanting to get off of the beach and trek 20 minutes north to get some amazing food, you won't be disappointed by One 20 Bistro!

...come to Niceville. For fine dining???

As a former resident, this was a wonderful find during the annual anniversary pilgrimage to the beach. Located in an old barber shop building, the inital view is slightly sparse. There is limited covered outdoor seating, but it soon becomes obvious that flashing out the exterior wan't their primary goal. The interior is pleasantly lit and lightly decorated, with a monitor displaying tranquil scenes of Zen gardens.

The menu isn't huge but it was still difficult to make decisions. We started with the pot stickers - 5 hand-made crispy treats drizzled with a soy-ginger sauce and accompanied with kimchee. We had a second course of the pumpkin bisque (no crabmeat requested). With just the right amount of nutmeg, it wouldn't be considered your usual summer fare, but the bisque was light in texture and tasted fabulous. The main course was shrimp and grits as well as the coffee-dusted tenderloin, cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The shrimp were set atop a crispy grit cake and sauteed squash and zucchini. The filet apeared to be 8 ounces (bigger than I expected) and accompanied with roasted tri-colored baby potatoes and the same veggies. Dinner was finished with creme brulee cheesecake adorned with drizzling of chocolate, caramel and raspberry. Only a latte would have made it even more complete (OK, we're snobs).

Service was excellent. Our server was well-informed on the menu and answered all questions without having to go ask - something rare to find at a restaurant near/on the beach. The small staff was happy to speak and wish us a happy anniversary. There are events and specials to look for (Girls' Night Out, cooking classes, etc), so check their website for updates.

This is a delightful place, well worth the small drive inland and certainly the best meal we have enjoyed at a "beachside" dining establishment.
