“Small Studio”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

Overall this was a wonderful place. It was clean, right on the beach, friendly and helpful staff. The drawback is that a studio, although it says it will sleep 4, is not really true unless you have tiny children. The kitchen was tiny but adequate. The bathroom was, again, small. The deck around the pool was generous. Two hot tubs were a bonus. The location was excellent being near good restaurants and grocery stores. The one bedroom apartments say they sleep 6 with one bathroom. We had a chance to view one of these apartments. There is one bedroom, a sleep sofa and a Murphy bed in the living room. This arrangement would be good for a family. The advantage is it has a lovely balcony overlooking the ocean. There are tons of activities. We would certainly book into a one bedroom again...not the studio.

Room Tip: Book a one bedroom so you get a balcony. The Two bedrooms are on the back side of the hotel with no...

I traded in through my time share. We checked in and were pleased to discover they had upgraded our street view to an ocean view. No balcony but at least a good view. Seriously walk outside and you are on the beach. Loved the location! The place was so extremely clean in our room also. Yes as some reviews have stated it is an older place but it is on great shape still. Yes the elevators are slow but at least they worked. The desk help was quite friendly. They are definitely a stickler for rules so if you have issues with not following rules then I recommend you stay elsewhere. Personally I didn't have a problem with it. I truly loved my stay. It isn't a happening trendy nightlife type of place or beach and I loved it. I will stay here again.

Some of the rooms are "studios" with a pull out couch bed and a bed that pull down from the wall. This was very cramped when the bed was down. It seems these are normal sized hotel rooms changed into suites and packed with a living room (with pull out couch bed), pull down bed, and kitchen with eating area. We had small children and stayed one night for a beach wedding we were attending. The room was clean with neccessities but small. I'm not sure if I would of wanted to stay longer than a night or two. The pool is big and has a small children's pool and 2 hot tubs. There is no breakfast or food options other than cooking in your own room. Overall the hotel is clean and nice otherwise.

Room Tip: If you are looking for more space do not get a studio.

I frankly don't know where to start. After two minutes in the room one thing was clear I was not going to spend anymore time in this Hotel. Not if they paid me. So I was willing to sacrifice the night I paid.
First of all the photos of the Hotel give the impression that Oceanfront rooms (not partials but actual Oceanfront rooms) have balconies. Thy Hotel should take extra care to make clear that many Oceanfront rooms do not have balconies. But let's talk about the room itself. An AC right next to the bed from what looks to be the 1970s with soft noise of an industrial assembly line. The room was dark, and everything seemed uncomfortably old. And it smelled mildewy. Do yourself a favor stay somewhere else.
Tip to this Hotel -- when a guest comes back to the front desk after 5 minutes of checking in says they are not going to stay the night. Don't argue -- give them a refund. It's just good business and customer service -- as you might imagine that is pointless to argue with this establishment.

I am originally from New Smyrna and my husband and two young children (6 and 1) came down to visit my parents. The Islander was reasonably priced, has spacious rooms, amazing location, and a friendly staff. This is a family oriented resort and the pool is bustling during peak times of day but everyone was always polite. You have direct access to the ocean and the resort provides chairs for the beach as well as toys for the children. The staff is friendly but ask questions because they have services (like movies for rent) that I was unaware of until our last night there. They no longer have a restaurant which was disappointing but you are close enough to everything for that not to be too inconvenient. We stayed in a studio and it was truly more like a one bedroom. The bedroom was separated by slatted doors and the living/dining area had a queen pull out sleeper that was very comfortable. We had a full stove, dishwasher, fridge and freezer as well as all the dishes we could need. It is helpful to know that you do not get maid service everyday so it is more of a vacation rental than a hotel but if you need anything like fresh linens or towels all you have to do is ask. You get one cleaning service mid week. I loved our stay and I never wanted to leave. At this point we are considering buying a timeshare week there so we can enjoy it every year. GREAT PLACE TO STAY!!

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms do not have a balcony only ocean front rooms do. The rooms on the first floor are...

We just finished our week here at the islander beach resort. It's an old place but well kept up. The staff was friendly and helpful. Pool was great and right on the beach. Being able to look out over the ovean every day was great.

We were here only for an overnight to go to a wedding. Overall older, but nice and well equipped property. The beachfront location is perfect. Be sure to note that they strictly adhere to their 4:00 PM check in time. Some draw backs for us: We were in a studio, so room did not have a balcony. The bed was extremely uncomfortable (hard), so I ended up on the pull out couch for the night. Small issue, but they did not offer shampoo, but did have soap. The kitchenette had everything you would need to stay for an extended period of time. No restaurant on site, but a quick drive to several good ones.

Room Tip: I would reserve a room with a balcony to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful beach !
