“Hard to Beat for Seafood and Fun”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

JBs is a must do each time we go to New Smyrna. It is quite popular and always crowded (then again we go mainly on weekends.) Last visit was a cooler Sunday around 3 pm so we were surprised it was so packed. We didn't wait long though. We had the steamed shrimp and my husband dreams of it for weeks afterwards. Our whole group loved it. We also had steamed oysters which were very good. Hush puppies were great (maybe the best I've had). A friend had the crab sandwich and was amazed at how much crab was on it. Some things can get pricey but we stick with a bunch of steamed appetizers and do ok. We then sat on the docks and had cocktails while watching live music. Beautiful sunset and tons of dolphins swimming was a great end to a great meal. One negative was getting a server that figures they can get away with volume over quality of service. Our server warned us about getting iodine poisoning if we ate too much shrimp (total turnoff!) and would not let us sit at the table and have more cocktails after we had finished eating. he said we would have to go to the bar to place our drink order. Then 2 of the employees were involved in a very serious fist fight in the parking lot next to our car. So they may need to work a bit on the professionalism of the staff (even if this is a fish camp!). Lastly the restrooms are bad. They really need a revamp and always smell awful and sometimes do not work very well.

“Nice view, staff and menu could use a booster shot”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

Maybe we there at an off time... maybe all the servers wanted to be somewhere else? The food was okay but really kinda blah. The value is just not there. Go grab a drink at the bar and find a spot outside to take in some scenery instead.

“Casual Dining at It's Best!!!”

Great seafood, generous portions, good prices and fun atmosphere! Not just fried seafood! That was delicious but the grilled shrimp stuffed with crabmeat was awesome. The steamed vegetables and corn on the cob were a yummy and healthy surprise!

“Raw Oysters”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

I have had raw oysters at many restaurants. However, this is the first time I've had them served with salt on them....NOT good. The calamari was excellent. However, the raw oysters were NOT. When I mentioned that to the waitress, Karyn, she said "they come from the ocean"....duhhhh. We live in Maine... Once burnt, twice learnt...My wife's gumbo was "luke warm". We didn't say anything, though.

“Whether you're a Florida Cracker or a California Cutie”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

You just gotta love JB' s. This is 'Red Lobster' before the idea was conceived. This is fried gator, fried crab, fried shrimp and heavenly hush puppies. You can get steamed veggies and grilled chicken too (by why would you?). Big menu, something for everyone. Old Florida sittin' in the marshes. Go enjoy the way it used to be.
