My daughter had been to this restaurant with friends on a previous trip. She kept raving about how good it was that we finally gave in and decided to drive from Ormand Beach. We were pleasantly surprised!! The salad bar is great and the cinnamon rolls are to die for!! ( you can get some to go for only 35 cents each!!) We had teriyaki shrimp, grilled shrimp and blackened mahi. Everything was delicious! The wait staff was nice and attentive! I highly recommend it! It is well worth the trip!

Walkng into Blackbeards invokes memories of the 1970s. Dark paneling and dated decor. Please, don't let that deter you, the food is amazing.

We visited the first time and suspected it was an anomaly. The service was great and the food was wonderful. We had steamed shrimp with Florida Bay seasoning for our appetizer. Yummy! Hot and well seasoned wih lemon and a side of butter. Exactly what we hoped for. Satisfying entrees included a fried seafood platter and the blackened shrimp/chicken.

Too lazy to find a new place to look for a new place try, and expecting disappointment (what you usually get trying a place twice) we went to Blackbeards again. And again, we were assailed by the horrible decor but astounded by the wonderful food. Steamed shrimp was again yummy and the entrees of snow crab and flounder were above reproach. Service was attentive without being overbearing.

Dined in bar area restaurant was busy but service was fast and efficient. Ordered the oysters Rockefeller au Gratin was excellent. Had the New York steak which was served perfectly as ordered and my two friends who had same steak but blackened said their steaks were excellent. Salad bar lots to choose from and was fresh and crispy. My friend had the fish soup and said it was really tasty. Will be back to try more

Blackbeards is located at the corner of Wayne and US 1 (Dixie Freeway) in New Smyrna Beach. This restaurant is not a tourist trap, but was filled with locals, and for a reason. Parking was ample, and seating was by booth or table, but plenty of room in the large and smaller dining rooms. The writer was surprised to see several families dining. The reason seems to be the value for the buck. This restaurant is homey with friendly service and is a great experience for children as well as adults. No fast food feeling here, though. People were enjoying themselves, but the noise was not distracting or too loud to converse.

The menu is varied and Blackbeards is noted for their fresh seafood as well as prime rib. As might be expected, this restaurant is very popular and one may have to wait for a table during peak dining. Drinks were ordered and a bucket of warm rolls and cinnamon buns was given to the table of four. Fresh, shucked oysters and clams are available but the party started with Oysters Rockefeller, but without any cheese. Twelve large oysters (Texas) were served and prepared nicely with spinach and herbs. Instead of an individual salad, a salad bar is available. The writer is not a fancier of salad bars, but this one had fresh greens, toppings, salads etc. Not to be missed, however, is the fresh fish chowder. This alone was worth getting up and serving oneself. Still, it is a salad bar and the writer would prefer a served salad, but again, for families this is a great introduction for kids to sample different items.

Our dinners were selected from fish courses including shrimp, scallops and white roughy. All selections were prepared well and simply. A potato choice was also given such as baked, french fries or sweet potatoes. Again, tasty and simply prepared. Portions were large and a great value for the price. The diners did not have any room left for dessert.

Blackbeards is a very popular restaurant and understandably so. Fresh food at a fair price with ample portions and a varied menu. Service was attentive and enjoyable. The writer would not hesitate to return to this enjoyable dining experience.
