Love this place to just go and get away from it all! Take a picnic and wath thw waves crash the beach. Explore the sights, take a kayak, fish, hike, look for the turtles, see the turtle nests. This place is very well maintained!

No, this isn't a National Park with mountains, craggy peaks, alpine lakes and Big Horn sheep...but it is Florida as the natives knew it thousand of years ago. And if you appreciate unadorned beaches and vast expanses without anyone in sight, this is for you. Throw in the lagoon and the best Red Fish in the world and it becomes an exciting destination.

Just north of the buffer zone surrounding Kennedy Space Center, the National Park Service has made a little gem for visitors. A new visitors center is quite nice and the regular pontoon boat tour of the lagoon is a great value and you'll see areas you would never encounter otherwise.

Visit New Smyrna Beach, the Atlantic's best kept secret, and enjoy the Canaveral National Seashore.

There are many things to see and do at Turtle Mound, but the real scoop is that they have the best beach. It is $5 to get in the park and while the majority of the folks are at the beaches in town you get almost the whole beach to yourself. There are places where the beach is mostly shell, so you have to be a little choosy. We had two fun days at the beach picking up shells and building sand castles all alone! It is a wonderful place. You can see the historical site where the Timucaun Indians built mounds out of clam shells. This is just a great little park.

Awe-inspiring walk up the boardwalk to the top of the mound. It was created by the prehistoric Timucuan Indians & is the largest shell midden on the mainland U.S.. There were hundreds of butterflies, including Florida's state butterfly, the Zebra Longwing, everywhere feeding on the Papaya flowers. The foliage is lush & the view from the top of the mound is breathtaking, with Mosquito Lagoon/ Indian River on one side, & the Atlantic ocean/ Canaveral National Seashore on the other.

Wonderful place to visit and learn about history long ago. Nice peaceful walk. Just a wonderful place to visit if you haven't already. A must do if you are visiting.
