Many, many times I've been told that chain restaurants cannot be anywhere near as good as stand alones. This restaurant demolishes that idea. It ticks all the right boxes: good service (even for a large party), a thoughtful menu that uses unexpected ingredients in artful and pleasing ways, well-chosen wines, and a energetic atmosphere.
A particular aspect I enjoyed was the way classic dishes like a chicken taco or a reuben sandwich were pulled apart and re-imagined using atypical ingredients. In the case of the later an asian-style slaw is substituted for saurkraut and the sliced meat with a cut of fish. Or the way tropical foods like yuca and plantain find themselves presented in ways that are suited to a North American palate. Very fresh thinking with tasty results and served at a reasonable price, particularly for lunchtime diners.
I wish all chains were this good.
