Sunday we had lunch with friends at the Boathouse. The service was good and we got our drinks quite fast. I ordered six baked Oysters as starter and Sesame crusted Tuna as main course.
My wife had no starter and ordered seafood sautee with pasta and garlic sauce. Our friends had no starter and ordered for their main course one seafood sautee with parmesan cream sauce and a mixed seafood platter. We ordered a large carafe of the house Chardonnay for the meal.
The baked Oysters had been prepared very well and had a good taste.
The house wine is good quality and the price is fair.
So far, so good.
However, the main course gave mixed results.
My Tuna was perfectly cooked and everything on my plate was nicely arranged. The fish was fresh and all tasted very good.
The mixed seafood platter of our friend was giving him a good portion of snow crab clusters and a lot of other different fried fish. Everything tasted good and he could not finish the huge platter.
But then, the disappointment happened for our ladies.
By surprise, the fish which was coming with their two seafood sauteed platters had a strange taste like old fish has. I can not understand how this could happen in this restaurant. The place is quite crowded and they cook and sell a lot of fish everyday. Additional, it is not a cheap place and I expect that the management takes care to serve only fresh fish. Keeping and using old fish for meals which use a lot of spicy sauces is not a good idea. Even the strongest sauce will not override the fishy taste. This is saving cost at the wrong place.
Our total check was about 190$ for four persons. For such value we simply expect fresh fish.
I hope that somebody from the management is reading in this forum and gives a clear message to the kitchen team. There are some other nasty customer comments in this forum which confirm that something has to improve. We will not make another visit.
