“Fun time, good food”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

Tulia's is a new restaurant on Naple's fabled 5th Avenue and, not surprisingly, the atmosphere is electric. High noise level, but food is great. The pasta -- including a tortellino with foie gras, short ribs and cheese and another with duck ragu -- were inventive. The meat ball appetizer was perfectly seasoned. Katie on the wait staff made it a very fun night for our party of four. Wine list has enough choices for every palate and pocketbook. Parking is a hassle -- only a few spaces alongside the restaurant. I used a valet across the street. Al fresco dining great if weather cooperates.

“This is a "Wow"!”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

OK...it's noisy...but what isn't these days. I give very high marks for food and service...both of which were delivered impeccably. Our party all had pasta dishes and the freshness of the pasta and richness of the sauces were both wonderful. Jerry, our waiter, was helpful with recommendations and even comped two glasses of wine when he failed to deliver them promptly. But I give highest marks for the consideration shown when I called to say we were running about 30 minutes behind and would be late for our reservation. Frankly, I expected to be told, "Sorry. We can't hold the reservation." Instead it was, "That should be no problem." And when we arrived lated as predicted our table was ready and waiting. Another high mark for the total lack of any rushing to turn over a table. That was reminiscent of dining in Italy. Definitely worth a visit.

“Charming”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

The food was very good. We ate outside and were glad we did as the inside was crowded and very noisy. It is a new restaurant and drawing large crowds so that is to be expected. Not too large a restaurant but the food is worth the effort.

“Too busy for my taste”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

Everybody was buzzing about Tulia before it opened in January - well-known chef bringing a new style of Italian to the Avenue. Now that it is open, I have to say I am disappointed. The food was good but not great, and the menu is pretty limited. I guess I could have had the pigs ears on offer as a special appetizer, but I passed. The wine list is quite small as well.

But what really set this place apart was the din. It was unbelievably noisy, in a town known for noisy restaurants. Plus the tables are so close together that you are practically in your neighbor's lap. It got really close when the four top next to us was converted to a six top, effectively filling the aisle. Everyone being seated or leaving from then on brushed us with an apology.

So the moral is that if you can score a table on the patio you will probably have a good time. But if you are inside, bring earplugs and body armor.

“Will try again.”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

Visited Osteria Tulia last night, OK considering they just opened a few weeks ago, will be back to try again. After we were seated it took 30 minutes to take our order, but then the drinks and food arrived very quickly. The bread and dip were very good and in fact we asked for more. The brussel sprouts with sausage was great, but will not order the meaballs again, not hot, dry inside and like they have been sitting for a while. The porchetta was good, but the skin should be like crakling. My seafood pasta was Ok, will not order again as the pasta noodles were something I have never seen before and the seafood was all chopped up. Generally in Italy you would see sea food pasta with a long pasta and large pieces of fresh seafood on top. The espresso was not very good, they should use pods. Again, opening jitters still and will try again in a few weeks.
