We went to see Wynton Marsarlis and the Lincoln Centre Jazz orchestra. The building is superb and the auditorium really well set up with good views from all seats. Whilst the quality of Wynton and the band is undisputed we were rather disappointed with the programme of music on the night as it was all Christmas related and not the kind of jazz we were hoping for . Jazzing up centuries old carols does not work for us !
But our abiding memory of the night will be of the audience. As the last number finished the house lights came a bit and people stood to commence what we thought was a standing ovation which would lead to an expected encore but which immediately turned into a rush for the exits ! As we were on the end of a row we were kind of forced into going with the flow though, in retrospect, I wish we hadn't. I could not believe how rude it was and could not understand why ? Do they do this for all performers ?
