Naples has plenty of good lodging choices in a very wide price range. In town for three nights on business, I needed something comfortable, convenient and at a price that wouldn’t break the bank. The Doubletree brand had never steered me wrong in the past, and being at the top of the Tripadvisor list, this property caught my eye. What an excellent choice! This one rates among the top places I’d ever stayed in its class.
WHAT WAS GOOD: The staff here is exceptional! Everyone I came in contact with was friendly, accommodating and genuinely interested in how my stay was progressing. First class!....Suites are spacious and very nicely designed. I had one of the smaller units and still found more than enough floor space….The bedding is as good as it gets….Suites have all the amenities you could want: refrigerator, microwave, coffee, wet bar, etc. Oh, and a rarity – not only flat screen TVs (one in each of the two rooms), but a high def signal!....The pool and spa are set in a nice area, surrounded by palms and stocked with very nice furniture; excellent for unwinding….On the night I decided to dine on site, Charlie Chiang’s was mobbed. So, with trepidation, I opted for Portofino’s (conspicuously empty) as an alternative. Surprisingly, dinner was excellent….Then there are those excellent Doubletree cookies.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER: There’s hardly a thing to fault about this exceptionally well run property. Yes, it’s a hike to the beach and to Downtown Naples, but that’s reflected in the price.
THINGS TO KNOW: Pool hours are from 7:00 am to dusk….I’m from New Jersey so when people describe a place as being on a busy divided highway, I cringe. Note that US 41 (Tamiami Trail) is busy but not in the fast food and gas station kind of way. It’s more of a palm-lined route past office buildings and upscale strip malls. There’s no aesthetic issue in terms of this hotel….The drive to downtown Naples is 15 minutes….To head south on US 41, go north then cut to the left just beyond the hotel and use the u-turn a quarter mile up.
BOTTOM LINE: Hats off to Tripadvisor reviewers for getting it right once again. This is a fitting choice for the top-rated property in Naples.
