Since writing a review on the Hotel Escalante earlier this year things have gone completely downhill due to a takeover of the hotel itself. Utility bills are not being paid and the whole look of the hotel is shabby. This is such a shame as it used to be a really nice place to stay - but no longer is.

We stayed in this hotel in Nov 2003, I had seen it on the web and it looked great, it was on the site of an old hotel we used to stay in and it has a fantastic location.
We had booked 2 rooms as there were 4 of us, the rooms were on complety different floors. The rooms themselves were very spacious although our room was much better than the one our friends got. I have to say the bathrooms were stunning with a rainforest shower.
We just found it all a bit snooty, other guests staying there were far from friendly, I realise that is not the hotels fault but it seemed to be the kind of atmoshpere they wanted. The parking was very limited and the whole outside area was very dark. We have been coming to Naples for years now and next time we will try somewhere else.

I bought my parents a gift certificate to this hotel last December. They went to use it about 2 weeks ago only to find that it was useless as the old management company had gone bankrupt and the new management refused to honor it. They then gave my parents the name and phone number of the WRONG lawyer to contact to try to get our money back. BEWARE. I would expect that in a hotel of this class, that the management would show some professionalism(especially in a SERVICE industry) and honor the gift certificate. They were planning on staying for 3 nights and use the spa services, and the gift certificate would have only covered one night.
Absolutely ridiculous.

What a difference 'New Ownership" can make-and not for the better at all! There were so many wonderful little things last year. Last year we stayed about the same time, late April, early May. The service was discreet, quiet and outstanding. There was free continental breakfast and parking. The grounds, which are supposedly a registered botanical garden, were beautiful-like paradise. h Gardenia so rich in the air, you would think they were having it pumped in. There was a pitcher of lemonade always available with shortbread cookies. There was always ice water available. The atmosphere at the pool was quiet and relaxing. Kids do not rule the pool here.
This year, as soon as we arrived we were met with a rough reception. Breakfast is $12-$15 per person. Parking is $15/day. You received an explanation to your surprise about the changes that the hotel was under private new ownership. That the hotel had gone into bankruptcy and was bought on the auction block.....". Really weird.
The rooms showed some wear with delamiating cabinets, scuffed walls and plumbing issues. The pool was dirty, the spa was dirty. The fountain over the spa was run only on weekends when it was busier. Breakfast was also hit or miss depending on how busy they were-they couldn't be bothered for just a few guests. Towels for the pool would run out.
A blond woman who worked the Library (brings snacks/drinks) was loud when trying to get orders. Would yell across pool area. The new owners were also constantly visible and loud.

Other guest were witness and victims to the same experience. Everyone had heard the excuses. It was not 4-5 star experience- it was tacky.
Really a shame.

In my opinion, the hotel lacks the professionalism found in other similar hotels within this price range. Check- in and check out were problems during my stay, as not enough persons were employed at the front desk to assist, causing long delays. Several employees, while very pleasant, seemed unskilled in providing useful advice and assistance. Instead, it is my opinion that the hotel seemed like a "mom and pop" establishment, with mom and pop gone for the week. I experienced very long waits waiting to speak with the front desk, and experienced significant difficulty receiving a response from management to a large disputed charge.
