“A Beautiful Zoo Closeup”
Reviewed November 7, 2013

Yesterday my wife and I, who are both in our seventies (from Virginia) visited the Naples, Florida Zoo and were so impressed by the beautiful zoo environment, the staff and the topnotch care invested in the safe and healthy well-being of the animals. This may be a smaller zoo than one finds in cities, but you'd go a long way trying to find one designed with such care. Originally developed as a botanical garden the place is about as well-planned and laid out as a zoological garden could possibly be. We 'walked the entire zoo in three hours - on pathways that were level and easy to negotiate. The animals - 8 giraffes, 2 lions, 2 Malaysian tigers, parrots, alligators snakes, cheetah, leopards, etc. are housed in good-sized enclosures that suit their environments and provide good close-up viewing. The truly unique thing about the Naples Zoo is the large number of zookeepers and guides that seem to be everywhere at all times. How often can you look at zoo animals, turn around and have a lengthy conversation with the very staff-member who cares for them. These are not mere 'zoo employees' but educated, experienced and caring animal specialists who seem to be able to answer any and all questions. While there are no rhinos, elephants, sea lions, penguins, gorillas or hippos there are certainly enough 'wild' animals here to provide a great visit for everyone. Additionally, thee admission price (you may consider it a bit high at $20. until you see how beautifully maintained this zoo is) includes all of the shows and presentations - snakes brought out into a pen to be viewed during a great talk, tigers, the feeding of 17 alligators close-up, etc.) The zoo has well-placed refreshment stands, picnic areas and a terrific gift shop. We have visited zoos in so many cities - big, medium and small....and this is a wonderful zoo. Oops, I forgot toe mention the boat ride past little islands upon which live a variety of monkeys. Bravo Naples Zoo!

“Best Zoo! Up Close and Personal!!”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

This is one of the best zoos. All the animals were up close and personal. I felt like I could touch the Lion and Tigers, there were so close. It was a bit small, but they have the best and interesting animals. I would suggest you visit the animals during their feeding times, you can get great pictures and videos of them eating food out of the trainer's hands. The Monkeys and Apes are fun and loud. Take the boat tour of them, you will love it. Giraffes are GREAT!! You can feed them lettuce, how cool is that!!! All the staff is ready to discuss the animals and answer ALL your questions, even the crazy ones!!
Small zoo and only takes a few hours but well worth it.
