“Fun, interesting place.”
Reviewed December 15, 2013

Made the two mile walk to this pier and I was happy I did. The experience was interesting; saw big round nets, fishermen/women (mostly men), birds, and others. When I first noticed the big round nets leaning against the side of the pier I did not realize they were used to rescue the pelicans from their mischief. But I got to see this live action when a pelican attempted to take a fisherman's catch from his line and got hooked. Immediately, men on the pier gathered with the net and freed the bird. Saw a dolphin swimming around the pier and tried to photograph it, a local, talented photographer shared his excellent photo of a dolphin with his catch at the pier. I also enjoyed friendly chats from a few of the locals. Definitely a beach walk destination.

“Well, it's a pier”
Reviewed December 10, 2013

It's a pier with fisherman, photographers, atmosphere.
A lovely walk and some interesting scenery.
There's a small cafe, with reasonably priced food and coffee.

“Living pier”

I liked this busy place, which is absolutely not boring, very much. Hundreds of anglers, strollers and bird watchers. If you are lucky, you can have the dolphins show for free.

“Always something going on!”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

I've visited Naples Pier several times and each time something different. On every occasion we've seen dolphins playing undisturbed and free. Fishermen a plenty, and catches frequent. On our last visit they were catching pelicans, cormorants, a gull and a dolphin but precious few fish!! The birds were treated gently and well, each checked over before being released. The dolphin had the last laugh, the fishermans line ran out and everyone shouted "Dolphin". Much excitement ensued with instructions being yelled loudly to ensure his safety. From the outset it was clear the dolphin was not a trophy. Suddenly the line went slack, the dolphin flipped his tail, cleared the water and swam off. The fisherman realed in his line to reveal a very neatly severed, large fish head on his hook, hook still firmly attached!! The dolphin had stolen his catch!! One for the dolphin!!! They reckoned it had been a very large fish! There was a lovely senior lady, appeared to be the matriarch of the fishermen, who ensured each fish caught met the statuary size and was treated respectfully, but after all, fishing is a sport and most are fishing to eat later.

“Dolphins and pelicans a plenty.”
Reviewed December 6, 2013

I just love Naples Pier. So much bird life and fish. If it is spoilt, it is by fishermen a plenty, who have no care of the fish, they pluck from the sea, often leaving them on the pier without removing hooks and putting the out of their misery, or throwing the back!! if you visit as the tide is coming in, late afternoon, the dolphins are there in big numbers, also plenty of pelicans, even the odd osprey. All delightful.
