“Not the old McCormick and Schmick”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012

We used to eat at M & S in Rhode Island and the food was great. We went for lunch. The meat was tough, the baked potato was mashed and the side dish with eggs Benedict was greasy bacon. In all fairness, the lobster tail was good so stick with fish if you go. The manager stood on the sidelines observing the waitress trying to make things right. They need a new manager. With so many good restaurants to chose from, we won't be returning to M&S.

“Got Salt? A Let Down First Visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

We were a party of two. We decided on this restaurant (first visit) as it is well known for its seafood—even though we were lured there by the beef medallion/lobster tail $29.95 special (on the menu for $33). We had high hopes of a memorable dinner. The décor is great. Very modern and chic with lots of warm colors. Plenty of booths (even some with draw curtains). This is off season and we were there from 6.30-8pm. Peak crowd only half filled the restaurant (this will change next month).
The “flash fried” calamari appetizer was great (glasses of pinot Grigio). It has aioli and tomato sauces on the side and the occasional, also breaded, carrot, artichoke. Nicely done and the generous serving could have easily been for 3.

The entrees of medallions and tail arrived before the wine service (Mirrassou Pinot Noir). We like to have the dinner wine before the plates are served, or at least at the same time. We had to wait, but at least the server was very polite and knew how to open and serve wine (a European).

It was as though two different chefs prepared our identical dinners. The medallions were cooked exactly as requested (1 med/1 med. Rare. My food was not hot. Warm but not hot. The béarnaise the meat was placed upon was way too salty as was the meat. My wife prefers more salt that I. I share a piece with her and she agreed it was not edible. I tasted the smallest medallion and the salt was so overpowering it had to be spit out.

My lobster tail, broiled and served on the open shell, was hard—as in over cooked. It, too was salty. We notified wait staff who apologized and took the plate back. My wife’s meat was not salty and her lobster was cooked perfectly—I tasted both. The manager came, apologized profusely and brought a new plate—even with the béarnaise on the side. This was done as it should in the first place. The manager said they have their own steak seasoning, I countered that someone is way overzealous in using it. Another point for those that may try this menu item—the “medallions” were not tenderloin and not advertised as such, we just assumed—so not a tender melt-in-your-mouth cut.

No matter how well meaning the apologies, how good the replacement meal, the event is ruined. My wife sits and waits, I tell her to go ahead and eat while we wait, etc. No complimentary meal is offered, no comp desert is offered. We tipped 18% as the wait staff could not be faulted other than the late wine.

Not certain we will return, and we hope they can handle the season rush.

We especially enjoy McCormick & Schmick's for lunch and happy hour. The food is always fresh, and there is a wide variety of creative seafood and other dishes The happy hour has very reduced prices for some great dishes, including the famous cheeseburger. I recommend joining the loyalty club. It costs $25, but you get a coupon for $25. You also get a credit of $30 every year for your birthday month and earn a $25 gift certificate for each $250 spent. Such a deal!

“a nice stop....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2012

We stopped here twice.....we were lucky enough to get a seat on the patio. The furnishings were comfortable and they had just begun happy hour both times we stopped by. The first time we just had an appetizer to share as it was quite late and the second time we ate here and chose a few items to share from there menu. The seafood was prepared well and enjoyed it very much.

“Okay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2012 via mobile

My wife's food was great, but my Mahi was a little overcooked. The bed of whatever it was on was delicious though. Our waitress was friendly and accomodating. First time at a M&S thought it would be better. Ill give it one more shot b4 I drop it from the list for good.
