This place is great for kids of all ages! They have several interesting educational exhibits and they also have hands-on areas for younger children. Adults will enjoy all of the beautiful artwork and the anthropological and ecological information about the area. The bridge over the river provided a great place to watch the black-tipped shark. So cool! Their gift shop has a wide selection of bird books for the avian-enthusiast. Bring water and BUG SPRAY if you plan to hike through the beautiful nature trails. It's Florida - there are mosquitoes aplenty.

“Well worth a trip!”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

We took our grand-daughters here and really enjoyed ourselves. The visitor centre is bright and full of interactive exhibits and aquariums. There is lots of interesting information as well. The investment in the centre is really quite impressive. We went on a Friday which during the summer months means children get in free and there are special events for children. They had a touch tank and children were able to touch animals such as star fish ( sea stars ) and crabs. The lady leading this was brilliant with the children. There was also an art centre where our grand- daughters were able to make Oyster cards. This activity definitely is only there on a Friday. Outside there are trails which sounded interesting but we hadn't thought to bring insect repellant and I think that would be a good idea! We only walked a short way before turning back. It only cosy $5 so was really good value. There are rest rooms and a small food bar. Staff were really helpful.

Free Friday for children in the summer with classes, crafts, and multiple teachers that are great with energetic children of all ages... Adults even got a lesson today! Highly recommended, great for schooling or to spend a quality family day... I think this would be perfect for local residents and those on vacation as well!

“Good value; worth the visit”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

Located on Rte 951 just after the turn to Marco Island, Rookery Bay is a low key, inexpensive, very worthwhile attraction for anyone wanting to learn more about this part of FL. It never seems to be crowded, and the expanse of walking trails spreads visitors out across the sanctuary. There are walking trails that can be accessed by almost anyone, and the flat walkways take you close enough to see everything along the way. The staff is knowledgeable and very accommodating. Worth the stop.

Very interesting facility and grounds plus only 5 bucks admission. Includes a short movie and presentations by staff. Bring your mosquito repellant if you walk any of the 3 trails!
