Description: That other Naples, some 5,357 miles away, may boast a rich history of art and culture, but it has the misfortune of not being the Naples that is home to The Capital Grille. Lucky Neapolitans in Florida can satisfy their culinary cravings for dry aged steaks, fresh seafood and world-renowned wines without venturing beyond The Mercato.Buon appetito.

We heard we wouldn't be disappointed on a Capital Grille splurge. Never being disappointed at Peter Luger's and admittedly prejudiced, we tried it. Ambience warm, server seemed OK until she opened the wine dropped the cork on the floor, & put cork on the table. Ugh! Caesar & wine good. Looked forward to Porterhouse medium rare. My non-complaining husband alerted the server the meat was more like well done. Mine too! Veggies sat. All sorry - replacements would be perfect. Wrong! Mine still overlooked, hubbies closer and both had ZERO flavor - tasted like steamed meat. Ate a couple of bites bagged the rest. Sandwiches?? The fact that we haven't done that speaks volumes. What a disappointing waste of our hard earned money.

Our evening started out with a most pretentious waitress introducing herself and "instructing" us on how this restaurant operates, ie portions large, specials, how things will be cooked. She told us that every lady at the table would receive a rosé at the end of the evening, that she would be taking a photo of our group and each couple would receive a copy. Finally, the confetti decorations placed in the table were there because we had told them it was a birthday celebration and she would be bringing the birthday girl a special dessert at the end. It was long-winded and totally unnecessary, as she could have just made it feel a bit less rigid by giving us thus information as the evening went on. (note: we were not unappreciative of the nice touches, just didn't need the instruction manual that came with them) The food was just ok. For $45 the piece of steak our birthday girl had was way over cooked. And the Chilean Sea Bass, though very good, was $42 with a few greens sprinkled on the plate. From appetizers to dessert everything was very high priced. Ok, for a business dinner but we thought too high for a simple birthday celebration. As the evening progressed a table of six men was seated directly behind us (so close the one gentleman's' chair was touching ours) . They had obviously just spent a while at the bar and were unduly loud. The
staff should have had better sense and put this group in one of the other rooms rather than the room we were in which was a few small groups chatting quietly. These fellows had every right to have their fun, but again, management did not judge the situation very well and our group ended up being unable to hear each other for the last 45 minutes of our dinner and could not get out of our chairs without bothering the other table to move,
We have been to several of these restaurants in the past and used them strictly for business events. However, that is the only recommendation that I could give to this Capital Grille, if you can put it on your company credit card, then this is your place. Too many other wonderful restaurants in Naples to waste your time on this Capital Grille.

We went for our semi-annual dinner at Capital Grille...from the door where are car was taken, to the front desk that was hospitable, efficient... yet not arrogant (or effected), to the waiter that ALWAYS got our drinks right away (we didn't wait for more than a few minutes for that additional glass of wine the they never remember when your meals comes), to the additional glass of champagne (anniversary) and little deserts (just hit the spot)...and till we were finally leaving the service was exceptional...no one does it better in Naples that we have found.

So how about the meal...excellent steaks all around with great sides.

Expensive...not cheap...BUT you just don't get the personal attention anywhere...worth IT!

We have been to the Capital Grill in Naples for the last time. In the past we have enjoyed ordering hamburgers in the bar and encouraged 2 couples to join us last week. Although the truffle fries are the best in town the hamburgers were not great and my drink was so weak I don't think they put any alcohol in it. Now that is quite a statement from someone who does not like her drink to be too strong. It is also the only place in town where you will spend $100 per couple for a hamburger but we knew that going in.
