Owner description: Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

“Amazing”
Reviewed April 8, 2014 via mobile

Not for younger children. We were first here 3 years ago and returned again this year. A wonderful place! If I lived near the sanctuary I would volunteer and be a regular. Bring your camera. Great photo opportunities for many birds and other wildlife. This is such a beautiful, peaceful place with great, friendly volunteers.

“Great Nature”
Reviewed April 7, 2014

This was amazing, Quiet magnificent Nature walk. The Boardwalk takes you on a winding 2.2 mile trail. You have to look carefully, we spotted a baby hawk in its nest. I turned a corner and no more than 50 feet away there was a Barred Owl staring at me. Great place avoid midday heat try and come early or late afternoon. Different times of the year have , of course, different animals to see well worth the $12.00 admission.

“Beautiful Boardwalk, Amazing Birding Opportunity”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

The first thing that you need to know when visiting Corkscrew is that your experience there will depend a lot on how quiet you are. Some birds and wildlife are readily visible along the 2.25 mile boardwalk, like the alligators and nesting birds, but most of the others are only seen though quiet observation. On our visit, we saw 2 red-shouldered hawks, 4 barred owls, a Purple Gallinule, Woodstorks, a juvenile Blue Heron, a nest of Anhingas, and several other birds that I didn't immediately recognize. Volunteers were also available all along the trail to help identify the birds. We spent about 2 hours in the sanctuary and could have easily stayed longer if we'd had the time.

“Bird Watchers”
Reviewed April 5, 2014

Travel east on Immokklee Rd. you will find Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. If you are into bird watching, nature lover or just a quit day with Gods little green acre this is the place. Stroll along the 2 mile board walk through the mangroves and wittness some great bird watching and other creatures of nature.

there is a price for this and need to call ahead to find out what is the entry fee. Also ask, best time of the year to see wildlife at it's best.
