Owner description: Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

“The best of nature and beauty!”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

If you are ever in the Naples area, check out the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. It is a large Cypress preserve with a 2.25 mile raised boardwalk through the swamps and forest. Corkscrew is named after the winding river that flows through the area. The walk is just beautiful and you may see many types of wildlife. The trees are beautiful. This is the last standing virgin bald cypress forest in Florida. You feel as if you are back in time as you enjoy the walk through the preserve. This is run by the Audubon Society, so many bird-watchers will be studying the variety of birds seen in the swamps and forest. It is great any time of the year. Take the time to visit this true wonder. It is a bit of a drive, but well worth it!

“A beautiful, peaceful place”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

Why do some people pay $12 to get in and then speed walk through? To get the most out of a place like this, you have to take your time. Pause to look carefully and quietly and don't be in a hurry. We saw racoons, flowers, birds, lots of trees, grasses, etc. Also saw some "scat" indicative of panthers on the board walk.

“Enjoy the outdoors”

Have visited Corkscrew several times and always see something new. It's a nice way to spend a few hours away from the hustle and bustle of Naples. Quiet and serene.

“Very Nice Facility!”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

We visited early in the morning to photograph wildlife and landscapes. The boardwalk was nicely done and fit well into the surrounding areas. We found many opportunities to shoot a variety of birds and hopefully came away with some very good photographs.
Very nice gift shop and snack bar on site.

Enjoy

“Lovely walks”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

Visited here a few times and each time you see different things. I am terrified of spiders, saw a few, but more interested in the other wildlife - including raccoons, gators, different kinds of birds, heard the wild pigs. It is a beautiful place (even in the middle of a thunderstorm!) with a 2.5 mile boardwalk that takes you around. There is an interesting visitor centre with small shop.
