Owner description: Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

“Very nice, worth the drive”
Reviewed January 12, 2008

Got there early on Christmas day and there was only one other couple out there at that time. Parking lot was almost full by the time we left, so definitely get there early and you'll have the place virtually to yourself. First half of the walk was a little disappointing for viewing wildlife, but keep your eyes open, during the second half, the birds were plentiful. Nice gift shop, docents were very informative and friendly and the place is kept up nicely. There is a small snack shop if you get hungry. Definitely a must see in the Naples area.

“Great place- go early!”
Reviewed November 29, 2007

Corkscrew is an amazing place if you like to see wildlife, especially birds. We planned to be there about 2 hours and they had to kick us out 4 hours later! My recommendation is that if you are serious about seeing wildlife, you should go early in the morning- they open at 7am. Not only are the animals more likely to be seen, but the rude tourists probably don't go that early. Our trip was not as good as it could have been because there were several loud, rude people who had no consideration for others, even though there are signs posted about being quiet to see more animals.

“Great ! But beware of the drought.”
Reviewed July 8, 2007

Excellent path through some spectacular scenery, but the drought has severely diminished the wildlife. Still, a great walk on a nice boardwalk. Able to see some animals and the staff was great. A nice getaway from the golf/beach/shopping scene in Naples - will most definitely return when SW FLA gets some more rain.

“Corkscrew Swamp visit April 2007”
Reviewed April 26, 2007

One of the best nature boardwalks I have ever seen. Probably best to go in dry season (winter) as bugs are not a problem and aligators are more concentrated. A superb spot for birders.

“Very peaceful & interesting”
Reviewed February 10, 2007

My wife and I toured the grounds (huge) during the 2nd week of January, 2007. This was our second visit. You walk a boardwalk through some of the most pristine and interesting terrain in South Florida. We saw many animals and birds including a very rare multi-colored bird - name of which escapes me now, but was told it's name by the bird watchers gathered there (same bird as shown on the front of their map/program). It's awesome to just stop and listen to mother nature and the peaceful calm of the forest and swamps. Bring binoculars for a real treat! You will enjoy the walk and the sights.
