We felt privileged to spend one night at this iconic inn. This is the oldest continuously operated inn in the state of Florida. Yes, it is old. To be listed on the National Register of Historic Places there are things you cannot change. The buildings, rooms and fixtures are old. How great is that? The flooring in the bathrooms looked original, the bathtub looked original and the toilet most certainly did and therefor none of these items are in the best condition. But they are all functional. The shower was strong and hot, the A/C cold and we didn't hear a peep out of the any of our neighbors. The bed was comfortable and we both slept well. Wifi was available in our room.
The grounds are beautiful and the view at sunset across the lake was spectacular. My girlfriend and I got a cheese platter and wings from Merrill's Market across the street, open a bottle of wine a sat down by the lake without a care in the world.
We did eat lunch at the inn in the tavern. We shared an order of lobster strudel (crazy but fabulous!) and a chicken spinach salad. They gave us a $10 dinner coupon so the price was very reasonable. We did have breakfast the next morning in the dinning room after a 3.5 mile walk and there was more than we could eat. Service was slow but we didn't care, we had coffee!
There is a lighthouse park next to the Inn's property definitely worth exploring but watch out for the alligators.

Room Tip: We stayed in the first floor room 116 in the Gables, 2 double beds and the room looked exactly like the "Florida Room" picture on their website.

My wife and i decided to take a weekend trip to Mount Dora. I got on line and found Lakeside Inn. We booked a room over the phone and arrived on a Friday. There were some bad reviews on line but it is an older hotel and unique. Once i parked the truck, i didn't get in it again until we left on Sunday. We walked around the place , enjoyed the pool and ate all our meals at the onsite restaurant. The food was great but a little high priced and worth every mouthful. All the staff were very friendly and very helpful. We would definitely return. Parking is pretty bad but if you are looking to just getaway and relax,it's a great place to go. The town shops are just a short walk away.

This hotel is located on a scenic lake that has perfect sunsets. The porch is vast and comfortable. My wife and I sipped drinks while we played backgammon and watched the sunset. There are good restaurants and bars in town to enjoy if you are in the mood for a little action.

Pulling up to this historic hotel, I was apprehensive based upon some of the reviews I had read. While this is not an upscale, all amenities included hotel, the charm of this hotel surpassed all I was expecting. The hotel staff was amazing in their attention to our needs. They were always with a smile and cheerful greeting at all times of the day. Yes, there are some items that are not modern but you are staying at an historic hotel. It was this step back in time that added to the charm of this wonderful hotel. Rooms were charming with all their original wood trim and tile work. We walked to the end of the dock which extended into the lake to enjoy an awe inspiring sunset. We stayed on the second floor in the Gable building and were able to look out our window to watch all the people enjoying the large pool under the branches of a majestic oak tree. We went to the tavern onsite Saturday night to listen to an Irish trio in the lounge. Nick, our waiter for the evening, was a person who really enjoyed his job. We had a marvelous night and met many new friends. Overall, we will be back to enjoy this relaxed, step back in time when we get the chance.

Room Tip: ask for a courtyard side room. We were there when there was a Porsche rally and enjoyed watching the cars all lined up on the oversized courtyard lawn before they left each morning from our room windows.
